Newton Man Dies Today
Funeral Services Thursday Afternoon for
Albert G. Leeper of This City
Albert G. Leeper, well known Newton resident, died early
this morning at his home on First Avenue West. Mr. Leeper
had been ill for several months suffering from heart trouble
and had been in the habit of sleeping in his arm chair,
being unable to lie down in comfort.
When Mrs. Leeper rose this morning she discovered her
husband dead in his chair, and it is the opinion of
physicians that he died in his sleep.
Mr. and Mrs. Leeper have made their home in Newton for a
number of years, prior to which they lived on a farm near
here. Mr. Leeper had spent practically all of his life in
Jasper county.
Surviving him are his widow and one daughter, Mrs. Alice
Leeper Brooks of California, who is visiting in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday
afternoon at the Murdoch Funeral home and will be conducted
by Rev. S. A. McCollam pastor of the United Presbyterian
church. Burial will be made in the Metz cemetery. Friends
are requested to omit flowers. ~ The Newton Daily News,

Leeper Rites Held Friday
Services Conducted by Rev. S. A. McCollam
at Murdoch Funeral Home.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock yesterday
afternoon from the Murdoch Funeral home for Albert G.
Leeper, who died Tuesday morning at his home.
Rev. S. A. McCollam, pastor of the United Presbyterian
church, was in charge of the services. A number of duets
were sung by Mrs. C. C. Sabin and Mrs. Charles Davis, who
were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. J. C. Hill.
Pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased John and
Ralph Miller, James Leeper, Pete Pink, Colon Campbell and
Jay Kono. Burial was made in the Sugar Grove cemetery near
Metz.
Obituary
Albert G. Leeper was born near Kimbolton, Ohio, on April
5, 1851, and came to Jasper county with his parents in 1856.
The Leeper family were pioneer settlers of the Sugar Grove
neighborhood and Mr. Leeper made his home in that locality
prior to moving to Newton a few years ago.
On November 25, 1895 he was married to Miss Grace
Donaldson of Baxter, who survives. A daughter, Mrs. Alice
Brooks of Fresno, Cal., also survives. Mrs. Brooks has been
in Newton for some time assisting in the care of her
father.
Mr. Leeper had been ill with heart trouble for several
months, and was found dead in his chair early Tuesday
morning. He was one of the representative farmers of the
county and prominent in the affairs of the community. A
number of years ago his family moved from their farm home to
a home on First Avenue West where they have since resided. ~

Grace Leeper, 86, Rites Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. Grace S. Leeper, 86, long-time
resident of Jasper county, will be conducted Thursday at 2
pm in the Johnson funeral home. The Rev. W. W. Johnson of
the United Presbyterian church will officiate.
Mrs. Leeper, the daughter of David and Mary Donaldson,
was born in Scotland Dec. 31, 1873. She came to the United
States in 1884 and directly to Jasper county.
She was educated in the Jasper county schools and has
lived in and around Newton until her death Sunday afternoon
in Johnson Manor.
Mrs. Leeper is survived by one brother, David Donaldson
of Collins and a number of nieces and nephews. Her parents,
husband and a daughter, Ellen, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
Burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery. ~ The Newton

Mrs. Alice Baker Dies in Calif., Following Stroke
Word was received in Newton Thursday evening of the death at Santa Cruz, Calif., of Mrs. Alice Baker, 46, formerly of Newton and the daughter of Mrs. Grace Leeper of 802 First avenue West.
Her death came unexpectedly, following a stroke. Mrs. Leeper left this morning to accompany the body to Newton, where services will be in charge of the Murdoch Funeral home.
Mrs. Baker spent winters in California and had been working in a hospital. Her father preceded her in death in 1925. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 12, 1945

Mrs. A. Baker Funeral Party to Arrive Sun
Word has been received that the funeral party of Mrs. Alice Baker, who died last Thursday in Santa Cruz, Calif., will arrive in Newton early Sunday morning.
Mrs. Grace Leeper, mother of Mrs. Baker, left for California upon receiving word of her daughter's death and is accompanying the body to Newton. Funeral arrangements, in charge of the Murdoch Funeral home are pending arrival. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 18, 1943

Rites Held For Mrs. Baker
Funeral services were held Jan. 23 at the Murdoch Chapel for Mrs. Alice Baker, who succumbed unexpectedly Jan. 11, 1945, following a stroke suffered in Santa Cruz, Calif. Dr. Ray M. Davis, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, officiated, and interment was in the Sugar Grove cemetery.
Pall bearers were: George Campbell, Donald Haynes, Frank Hill, Roy Denniston, Homer Denniston, and Walter Heki, Mrs. Allen Blair and Mrs. H. L. Sawyer were in charge of the floral offerings.
During the service, the songs, "Face to Face" and "Twenty-third Psalm" were offered by Mrs. Donald Haynes, Mrs. F. E. McClean, Frank Koksma and Roy Denniston, accompanied by Mrs. R.L. Jackson. Members of the J.O.C. class of the First Methodist church attended the services in a body.
Alice Lucille Leeper Baker was born on Oct. 2, 1897, and at an early age joined the fellowship of the United Presbyterian church. She is preceded in death by her father, whose death came in 1925. About the first of December, Mrs. Baker concluded a two months' visit with her mother in Newton and returned to her duties at the California hospital where she was employed.
She is survived by her husband, Wendell Baker, and her mother, Mrs. Grace Leeper of Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, January 30, 1945.
