Obituary: Arthur H. Gordon
Funeral services for Arthur H. "Bud" Gordon, 70, of 432
S. 5th Ave. W., a longtime resident of Newton, were held
today, June 12, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Rick Johnson, pastor of the United Methodist
Church in Greene, conducted services. Burial was in Sugar
Grove Cemetery.
Memorials in his name will be accepted.
He died Monday evening, at the Mercy Hospital Medical
Center in Des Moines of cancer.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret; two sons, Thomas Arthur
and Benjamin Thomas, both of Newton; five daughters, Beverly
(Mrs. Matt) French of Newton, Rosemary Kelly of Belfast,
North Ireland, Kathleen Whitlock of Londonderry, North
Ireland, Patricia Moore of the Isle of Man and Sharon Gaston
of Antrim, North Ireland; 17 grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters,
Dorothy Gordon and Glaudia "Sally" Scott.
Mr. Gordon, a building construction laborer, was a
retired member of Local 177, Laborers' International Union
of North America.
He was a World War II veteran of the medical corps,
stationed in England and Ireland.
The son of Arthur and Pearl Simmons Gordon, he was born
May 1, 1921 in Hammond, Ind., and attended Newton
Schools
He was married to Margaret L. Dickerson in August, 1953
in Carson City, Nev. ~ Newton Daily News, June 13, 1991.

Obituary: Margaret D. Gordon
Margaret D. Gordon, 67, of Newton died of cancer Monday
at Skiff Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at
Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sugar Grove
Cemetery.
Mrs. Gordon was born in Buda, Ill., and lived in Newton most
of her life. She was a former bookkeeper and had worked at
Maytag Co. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas and Benjamin, a daughter,
Beverly French, and a foster brother, Ivan Altman, all of
Newton; three sisters, Dorothy Rodie of Hoisington, Kan.,
Betty Snodgrass of Newton and Maxine Boettcher of Elton,
Wis.; and a grandchild.

Obituary
Thomas Arthur Gordon, 45, of 319 E 12th St. N. died of
heart failure Monday, June 4, at Skiff Medical Center in
Newton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Pence
Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ed Lord, associate
pastor of Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton,
officiating. Burial will be at Metz Cemetery in rural
Newton.
Friends may call Thursday after 9 a.m. at the funeral
home where family will be present from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Memorials will be accepted in his name.
The son of Arthur Heston Gordon and Margaret Louise
Dickerson, he was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Red Bluff, Calif.
He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. Mr. Gordon
was a construction worker and enjoyed camping and
fishing.
Survivors include a son, Benjamin Thomas of Newton; a
daughter; Sheree Marie of Colfax; five sisters, Beverly
Honeycutt of Ottumwa, Kathleen Whitlock, Sharon Gaston,
Patricia Moore and Rosemary Kelly, all of Ireland; and a
special friend, Raye Dunham of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents. ~ The Newton
