New Albany Daily Ledger 3 May 1864 p 2 c 2: Fatal Accident — As the train south, on the New Albany and Salem RR, was leaving San Pierre on Saturday, a veteran soldier named Burns was killed, by getting entangled in the gearing of the breaks, as the cars were starting. He was dragged four or five hundred yards, and shockingly mangled. The day before a lady was killed on the same road, at the Battle Ground. She was getting from the cars when in motion, slipped, and fell under the tracks.
