Thursday, 18 March 1954John David Vanderpool, 61, died at his home near Zoe, on March 11, 1954 at 8:55 p.m. after a long illness of about four years.
He was born at Primrose in this county on July 24, 1893 and was the son of the late Anthony and Alice Thomas Vanderpool. On April 11, 1921, he was married to Miss Augusta Williams. In his younger days he was a farmer and for more than 11 years was employed in the oil fields in this county as a pumper.
He was a former deputy sheriff under the late Z. T. Hurst and at the time of his death was a deputy under Hampton Palmer. He was a member of the Zoe Church of God.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Rothel, Lowell and J. D. Vanderpool Jr., all of Beattyville; three brothers, Elbert and Marion, both of Bowling Green, and William of Fixer. Three sisters: Mrs. Pearl Smith, Farmers; Mrs. Dovie Frazier of Hamilton, Ohio; and Mrs. Helen Mullins of Middletown, Ohio.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Zoe Church of God, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Brewer. Burial was in the Vanderpool cemetery near Zoe. Funeral arrangments in charge of Congleton Bros. Funeral Home.

Thursday, 1 October 1953Mrs. Sarah Thomas Vanderpool, 81, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cordelia Ball in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 23, 1953. She had been living with her daughter for the last four years and was an invalid most of the time.
She was the wife of the late James Vanderpool who died in 1906 at Primrose. Mrs. Vanderpool was born in Lee County on October 28, 1872 and spent 66 years of her life in this county.
She is survived by five daughters and three sons. The daughters are: Mrs. Martha Treadway, Mrs. Nancy Mann, Mrs. Cordelia Ball, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Mae M. Bugsby and Mrs. Belvia Carte of Pontiac, Mich. The sons are Albert Vanderpool, Zoe, Ky., Herbert of Seven Mile, Ohio, and Alex of Cincinnati. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchilddren.
She was an active member of the Church of God for 32 years.
Funeral was held last Saturday afternoon at the Zoe church, conducted by the Rev. Charlie Kincaid. Burial was in the River View Cemetery under the direction of King Justice Funeral Home.
