COURT ORDER BOOK A
June Term Year: 1822
Perry County
At a County Court commenced and held in the town of Hazard on Mondy,
the 10th day of June, 1822:
Present: Jeremiah Combs, Jessee Bolin, Robert S. Brashears, William
Stamper, Robert Hicks, Esqrs.
Ordered that Nicholas Combs, Richard Smith, and Robert Hicks or any three of them being first sworn for that purpose, view and lay out a way for road leading from Martin Fugates to the mouth of Trace Fork and report the conviences and convinces ther of to the next court together with the acruit? or objections of persons throught (throughout?) any persons or persons throught whose land the same may pass.
Ordered that William Stamper be and is appointed surveror of road place of William Cornett in what he hs returned his order to court. From the mouth of the Line Fork, the way the roads runs to George Isom with the same hands open and keep same in repair as the law directs.
Ordered that John Cornett be and is appointed surveyor of the road in place of Samuel Young from the Rocky Ford Towr? to Cars Ridge and with the same hands residing along the said road to assist him to keep the same in repair as the law directs.
Ordered that John Haddix, Henley Haddix, and Nath__(torn) Noble or any three of them being first sworn for that purpose view and lay out way for road to ____(torn) as the road which is out by______and report the conviences and inconveniences ____(torn) to next court.
On Motion of this court ordered that Jestus Bolin, Alexander Patrick, Nicholas Combs is invested with full power and athority to cri (cry?) off at public the public building of the county at public oction to the lowest bider giving at least ten days notice at three of the most public places in the county an as of the time of sail and report to next court session? and the order to term of the within name.
Note: Listed in the margin, the above motion pertains to the jail building.
Ordered that Ellijah Combs, Jessee Bolin, Jeremiah Combs, Robert Hicks and Robert S. Brashears be and is appointed trustees to lay of the lots streets and alles for the permantset? of justices in the county of Perry and number the lots and give at least twenty days notice at three of the most public places in the county of the time of sail.
On motion of this court ordered that the sherriff of this county notify Mary Webb to attend here next court to shew cause if she can (show) the reason why her children is not better suported and the misdemier and reason why this court shant line them out, if any you can.
Ordered that Robert Brashears be and is appointed guardian of Talton Combs, Clinton Combs, Bonapart Combs, and Massingil Martin Combs, of Mason Combs dec's who together with Robert Hicks his security into and acknowledge bond in the place of $1,000 dollars conditioned as the law directs.
Ordered that Robert Hicks, Daniel Duff be and is appointd judges of the uper precinct election to be held at the hours of Thomas Malets on the 1st Mondy in August, 1822 and William Stamper is appointed clerk to the same election.
Ordered that Stephen Hogg, Moses Adam, Stephen Adams, Benjamin Webb view a way for a road from the mouth of Baans? (Ball's?) Fork to Ben Bentley mill and report the conviences and Inconviences therof through which the same may pass to the next court and the apahation (apprehension?) and dis aprachation through whose land the same may pass.
Ordered that Jeremiah Combs, and Elijah Combs be and is appointed judges of the election to be held at the court house and Jessee Combs is appointed clerk to the same election.

Perry County
Court met and held according to adjournment. Present, Robert Brashears, Jerrymiah Combs, Robert Hicks, Jessee Boling, Esqrs.
On motion Hardan Combs, son of Moses Combs, deceased, ordered that the the administrator of the estates of Mason Combs sell the negroes Samuel & Richard belonging to said Combs on the second mondy in October at a credit of twelve months at the best price that can be had by tak__y? bond of the purchase with good security.
On motion Edward Strong ordered that James Spencer W. T___y? and James Lewis view and mark the nearest way for a road from the mouth of Cana (Caney?) up the river to Samual Davisons and report to July court next.
Ordered that Benjamin Stacy be notified by the sheriff of the county to appear at August term to shew cause if any he can why his son Felix Stacy should not be bound to sum person that will bring them up in a dis orderly way.
Jessee Boling and Robert Breashears law commissioner of there made report at the sufficiently of the jail and the place there of that is the outside wal to be 16 feet square one fe__t? thick to be leven one foot broad and the inside wall to be one foot thick the timber to be hewn on one foot broads and be built one foot apart and be filld up with rock be twixt the wals and the bottom of the jail and to be dug three feet deep and to be flored with hewn timber one foot thick the upneath? and undnth? to be completely floured and the lower story to be built nine feet high and the top of the story to be covered with timber to be hewn one foot broad from side to side and the outside walk to be built four hands high above the lower story and with of hewn shingles and a sufficient door to be built made in the side of the jail and one door in the bounds? of the uper story.
Ordered that court adjourn until court in course.

September Term 1822
At a County Court commenced and held at the house of Elijah Combs of Perry County in Hazard on the 9th day of September 1822.
Charley Smith, Jessee Bolin, William Williams, Jeremiah Combs, Benj Webb, Robert Breashers and Joseph Cockrel Esquiers.
On motion it is ordered that John Haddix be and is allowed forty one days as commissionaner of the tax in the county which ordered to be certify to the auditor of the public acst &c.
On motion it is ordered that John Braum? be and is allowed twenty be_tween? days as commissoner of the tax in this which is ordered to be certified to the auditor of public acsts &c.
Ordered that Soloman Stone, Moses Roberts, and Benj Adams be summans to appear before the justices of Perry Cunty court to testify on the truth to speak in a certain mater now before our sd court about a certain William Roberts an Affin boy (orphan?) in this county which is now in cear? of the court &c.
On motion of this court by application made by several persons it is ordered that a certain Affin (orphan?) boy cald and by his own the name of Wm Roberts be bound to Solomon Stone by his entering into an indenture in the clerk office of this county as the law directs at the next county court to be held in and for sd county.
Ordered that T.W. Haaten? be and is appointed surveyor of the road in place of Robert Williams from Elijah Combs to the head of Amis Fork the way the road now runs and with the same hands to open and keep the same in repair as the law directs.
A justice of the peace being needed to supply the vacancy of James Turner who refuse to Sude? by a majority of all the justices of the peace being present doth concur in recommending to your excellency John Adair Esqr, governor of this comonwealth, Moses Roberts and Stephen Jent as fit and proper person to fil that place and name of who will be commissioned.
Ordered that Harman Hurst be and is appointed surveyor of the road in place of John (faded) from the mouth of troublesome to the North Fork Lick and with the same hands to open and keep same in repair as the law directs.
Ordered that Nathan Noble be and is appointed surveyor of the road from Henly Haddix, turning up lost creek the way the view marks to a certain paercecal and know by name of the Ahe racksn? and keep the same in repair as the law directs &c.
Ordered that Benj Webb, Reuben Smith, Joseph Hammons or any three being first sworn for that purpose view a way for a road from the mouth of Thornton to the mouth of the Camp Branch or a near way if to be found by the said views.
Ordered that Thomas Johnson, James Gipson, James Davis, and John Mullins or any three of them being first sworn for that purpose view a way for a road leading from the Rock House road down to the mouth of ___ath? so as to intersect the Cars Fork road and report to the October term 1822
Ordered the sheriff for a going and comparing the polls for ____? men going and returing (returning?) 120 miles and one day there which is ordered to be certified to the auditor of publick accts.
Ordered that Wm Jones be appointed to a constable in Perry County when there upon entered into an acknowledge bond with John Haddix and Wm Williams his securities in the sum of 2000 dollars agreeable to law &c.

October Term 1822
A Court met and held at the house of Elijah Combs on Mondy the 14th
day of October.
Joseph Cockrell, Jermiah Combs, Robert Hicks, Benjamin Webb, William Stamper, and Elijah Combs Esqrs.
Ordered that James Hogg be and is appointed surveyor of the road from the north Fork of Kentucky River to the top of the ridge between the North Fork an the Line Fork which was formerly marked by Daniel Duff surveyor there of and by the agreement of the companies it is ordered that William Banks and Jall Church be allotted to the sd road to keep the same in repair as the law directs.
And it is ordered that William Stamper and George Isom with there two companies to keep the road in repair from the top of the dividing ridge to Line Fork &c.
The lst will and testament of Simon Stacy decd. proven by oath of Jeremiah Profitt, Daniel Duff and James Roberts, witness there of and ordered to be recorded where upon Daniel Duff esqrs there in named took oath required by law and together with securities entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty $________ condition as the law directs and certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of sd deceased estate in due form.
Report of a road leading from the Rock House road on Smoot to the mouth of the said Fork to Cars Fork road returned and sideration ther upon the same is established and is ordered that Thomas F. Pleghmand? be apointed surveyor ther of and with the hands to be alloted by William Brannam esqrs to open and keep the same in repair as the law directs.
The clerk presented the court with an accts of tax due the commonwealth from his office upon the process and deeds &c which he verfied upon oath accounting to $25 dollars from the first day of October 1821 to the last day of September 1822 which is ord to be certified to the auditor of public accts.
The clerk presented the court with one copy of the commissioners books which is ordered to be certified to the auditor of public accts after making out one more for copy from the same &c for the sheriff of the county.
The court prced to lay the county leve as follows to wit Ordered that $20.50 levy for John Duff for vewing and laying of the town lots.
Ordered that $18/ be leved for the Judges and Clk of the uper precinct election at the house of Thomas Malets.
Ord that $6 dollars be levied for the Judges and Clk of the election held at the court hours.
Ord that $30 to be levied for the sheriff tax by public and exoficial services 1822.
Or that 9.30 / 1/2 be levied for the Clk for purchasing paper &c.
To the clk $40 for his ex officio services for the year 1822.
Ord that $50 to be levied for William Begley.
Ordered by 426 tyths at 4/6 each
Ordered that the sheriff of this county collect 4/6 from each thyths pay the severally county credittures there expectture dues and retain the balance in hands, subject to the futher orders of the court.
On motion of Rachel Herald? state satisfactory proof being made to the court by two creditable witnesses in persuance to an act of asembly appeared the 21st of December 1821 that she was a widow and not worth Prappoerty to the amount of one hundred dollars and claim the benefit of said act as to one hundred acres of land of which is ordered to be certified to the auditor of public accounts on application.
Ordered the court adjourn until court in course.

December Term 1822
At a County court commenced & held at the house of Elijah Combs on Monday the 19 day of December 1822
Present Robert S Beashears, Jeremiah Combs, and Elijah Combs Esqrs.
Ordered that Robert S Breashears have license to keep a tavern at his house in the county of Perry as the law directs and together with Nicholas Combs and Hardin Combs his securityes entered into an acknowledged bond in the penalty of $100 conditioned as the law directs.
Ordered that court adjourn until court in course.

January Term -- 1823
On motion it is ordered that James Gibson be & is appointed surveyor
of the road in place of Archable Gibson resign from the head of Caney at
the county line running the way the road now runs to the top of the ridge
between the Rock House and Cars Fork with all the hands formly alloted
to that part of the road to assist him to keep the same
in repair as the law directs.
