I would like to know if an obituary notice was printed about him in the local newspaper. He and his wife Pearlie WILSON are both buried in the Kirkman Cemetery on Allegre Road in Elkton. I visited the cemetery a few months ago. The dates on Pearlie's tombstone are 1890-1927 but I could not find her listed in the Kentucky Vital Records death index. JOHNSON, NICHOLS, REEDER:
Frances S. JOHNSON, b. KY 1804, was married on 5 May 1825 in Todd County KY. She became the second wife of Daniel REEDER, b. SC (possibly NC) 1791 whose first wife, a Mary NICHOLS, died after the birth of their second son. Frances and Daniel raised these boys and had nine children of their own. They moved to Adams County, Illinois about 1830 and both died there. Several researchers are working very hard (and have been for years!) to find the names of parents and siblings of Frances S. JOHNSON. We also very recently discovered old photos of the above. Please contact me if you have any interest or would like to share.

LONG, TAYLOR:
I am looking for any info on Sampson G. LONG and Malinda TAYLOR , who were married about 1834, probably Todd Co. They are found in Todd Co. censuses in 1840 and 1850. During the mid-1850s, they moved to Montgomery Co., MO. According to census records, Malinda was from TN, and Sampson was born in NC about 1795. Was Sampson related to the LONG family of Christian and Logan Cos? Appreciate any leads at all. I am at a dead end.

DARNELL/DERNALL, FLOYD, HENSON, RINER, TUCKER:
On 25 June 1857, according to their family Bible, Samuel TUCKER was married to a woman named Lavenia. Her last name, and the marriage place were not stated. When their son, Manliff TUCKER, was born the next year in Todd County, the KY Vital Statistics - Todd Co. Births, recorded his mother's maiden name as Luisa? FLOYD. In 1850, Lavenia and her two daughters, Serena (or Cyrena) Katherine and Sarah Ellen were residents of the Shaker Community at South Union in Logan County. South Union records and censuses show that Lavenia was known there as Lavenia HENSON. Her daughters were listed as Henson in 1850 but by 1855 they were listed as FLOYD. Evidently, Lavenia and daughter Serena left South Union by 1857 but daughter Ellen remained until 1862. By 1863, Samuel, Lavenia, their son Manliff and her two daughters were residents of Lyon County. When Serena was married at Sam TUCKER's home, her name was given as Serena DERNALL. Later, when one of her children was born, the birth record gave Serena's maiden name as Serena FLOYD. When another child was born, the maiden name was given as Serena DARNELL. Many years later, when she filed for a Confederate pension she gave her maiden name as Serena FLOYD.
Samuel TUCKER was first married to Mary HENSON, 12 Aug 1836 in Todd County. They had at least three children, the youngest being Margaret A. who married Russell RINER 27 Jan 1866, Christian County.
I am trying to locate the marriage records of Samuel and Lavenia in order to learn what name she was married with, and to see if the clerk made any comments regarding her marital status, widow, divorced etc. Any help and/or comments appreciated.Willis P. BALLARD, PHILLIPS:
Reasearching the family and descendants of Garland BALLARD and Bennett D. BALLARD.
Garland BALLARD b.c. 1786 Albemarle Co., VA, d. bef. 27 Oct 1860 Todd Co., KY, m. 11 May 1810 Albemarle Co., VA, Susannah PHILLIPS b.c. 1787 VA, d. after 1860 Todd Co., KY, dau. of Stephen and Susannah PHILLIPS. His last known record in Albemarle Co. was in 1817 when he posted a guardian's bond for his youngest brother Bennett D. BALLARD. Hie next known record is his listing in the 1819 tax book of Christian Co., KY. His part of Christian Co. became Todd Co. in 1820. The Todd Co. tax books for the "B"s have been badly water damaged for the years 1820-1822 and are unreadable. Garland was in the tax books of Todd Co. from 1823 through 1860. His estate was listed from 1861-1863. Garland was a son of Bland BALLARD and his 2nd wife Frances SHIFLETT. Garland was a brother of Peachy BALLARD who m. William HOY Sr. who was in the Christian Co. tax book of 1817. Garland probably came to Christian Co. as his sister and her family were already there.
Children:
1. James G. BALLARD B.C. 1811 Albemarle Co., VA, m. 4 Oct 1841 Toff Co., Louisa I. Hutchison,

They lived in Christian Co. from 1847 through Sep 1859. Warner was a member of the Pembroke Masonic Lodge and obtained a demit from it in Sep 1859. After Sep they came to TX where Warner bought a farm on 6 Jan 1860. It could appear that he decided to move his family to a safer area as KY was sure to be a battle zone if war ever started. [My line]
5. Harrison BALLARD b.c. 1819 Christian Co., KY, d. after 1880 Gentry Co., MO, m. 31 Mar 1845 Todd Co., KY, Frances E. CULBERTSON. Harrison is in the tax book of Todd Co. for 1858. He was in the Gentry Co., MO census of 1860. He moved his family from KY at the same time as his brother Warner but went to NW MO which would be far away from any danger.
6. Willaim BALLARD b.c. 1822 Todd Co.
7. John W. BALLARD b.c. 1826 Todd Co.
8. Susannah BALLARD b.c. 1828 Todd Co.

Bennett D. BALLARD b. 2 Oct 1802 Albemarle Co., VA, d. 25 Oct 1858 probably Hopkins Co., KY, m. 25 Dec 1822 Randolph Co., IL, Barbara THORNHILL. He certainly came to Christian Co., with his brother Garland who was his guardian. How he came to be in Randolph Co., IL where he married is not known. He did return to Todd Co. where he was listed in the tax books from 1824 through 1842. He was not in the Todd tax books after 1842 but appears in Hopkins Co. in 1847. BALLARD, HOY/HOYE, SHIFLETT:
The name will be found spelled both HOY and HOYE in the same record. It has been misread by some as Hoge who did not understand the variations of the "y" in 18th and 19th century writing.
Researching the family and ancestors of William HOY b.c. 1785 VA, d. 1869 Todd Co., KY, m. 24 Dec 1806 Albemarle Co., VA, Peachy BALLARD b.c. 1787 Albemarle Co., d. after 1860 Todd Co., KY, daughter of Bland BALLARD and his 2nd wife Frances SHIFLETT. They were last of record in Albemarle Co. in 1813 where they received a distribution from the estate of her father. The next record found of them was in the 1817 tax book of Christian Co., KY. William was last in the 1819 Christian Co. tax book. Todd Co. was formed from their part of Christian Co. and William HOY was in these tax books through 1869. He was not in the 1870 census of Todd Co. They seem to have been the first of their family to go to KY and her brothers followed them there. It is thought that they must have lost many children as there is a long gap between their marriage and the birth dates of their known children. Since he married a girl named Peachy BALLARD and his wife is shown in the 1850 and 1860 censuses as named Peachey and they lived close to Peachey BALLARD's brothers, I do not feel there were two marriages here as could be otherwise proposed.
Children:
1. William HOY Jr. b.c. 1821 Todd Co., m. Eliza ______.
2. Henry HOY b.c. 1825 Todd Co.
3. Mary Ann HOY b. 20 Jan 1827 Todd Co., d. 17 Apr 1902 Sedalia, Collin Co., TX, m. 30 Mar 1846 Todd Co., her first cousin, Warner BALLARD. Both bur. Elm Grove Cem., Collin Co., TX.
