James Miller, (1709-1775), took a gun and was concealed behind the stone wall to fire upon the British as they passed to Concord. His aim was so correct, a platoon was sent to dislodge him and he fell pierced with thirteen bullets. In 1876, Somerville erected a tablet to his memory near the place where he was killed. MORTON, Thomas of Amherst. Col. Ruggles Woodbridge Hampshire County regiment; Reuben Dickinson's company which was one of the first from this vicinity to respond to the Lexington alarm of April 19, 1775 [page 78]. The company marched to Cambridge and was in commission eleven days, although some of its members remained longer in service [page 79]. On a list of those who served two months from May 7 to July 8, 1777, under Capt. John Thompson, called out to reinforce the Northern army [page 83].
