"Nebraska State Gazetteer, Business Directory
and Farmers List for 1890-91"

J.M. Wolfe & Co., Publishers, 1890.
The 1890 Gazetteer is a "substitute for the 1890 census".
It is not an everyname document, but lists the
head of household on a farm, or the owner of a business in town.
The original index & directory to this publication has been prepared by LeRoy Eaton.
Thank you, LeRoy!
All counties have a volunteer for the transcription work.
Those counties appearing in RED below did NOT appear in the Gazetteer for 1890.

Sept 1999 - Bill Wever has launched a terrific effort to get this gazetteer DONE
in anticipation that we will be busy with another large project that is beginning soon.
Oct 1999 - Farmer's lists for 10 counties are left to do, each has a volunteer.
The towns (business lists) of Cass County are left to do (volunteer is working on them).
June 2000 - Down to 3 county farmer's lists and a couple towns that aren't finished!

Bill & his wife have typed many of the towns, and funded many of the copies mailed out to other typists.
THANKS,
BILL & NORMA WEVER!

List of VOLUNTEERS that have made this project possible.

We greatly appreciate the typing provided by a number of volunteers from the NE Heritage list.
You have made a major contribution to the data on-line for NEGenWeb Project.

To viewers - there are undoubtably many typos in the original gazetteer pages. All those who typed know how worn the book
was before it was microfilmed. Many of the listings are NOT entirely in alphabetical order. That's simply the way it was!
There were counties not yet formed. There is at least one "new" county that the publisher was not aware existed.
The farmers list for one county did not appear in the book - at least not in the book that survived.
Some towns have a lengthy list of inhabitants, and others simply give a population estimate.
The punctuation was minimal to non-existent. The presentation varies because many volunteers were involved.
In the original, the farmers lists are several columns to a page, and the businesses 2 columns per page.
At least one county linked from this directory / index page appears as images on the net.
We hope to add all the advertisements, someday.
