married there in 1851 Mary A. Jordan, a native of that place. He

(g) William Sheffer, b. July 10, 1804, Lycoming Co.,
Pa., son of John and Susan (Reynolds) Sheffer, married there Miss
Elizabeth, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth (Shelley) Kehler, b.
Nov. 30, 1801, Northampton Co., Pa. In the summer of 1856 he moved
with his family to the valley of Salt Creek in the northwestern
part of Cass Co. Ellis Callahan, a near neighbor, later married
the eldest daughter Elizabeth.Chapman, pp. 948-950.
(h) Peter T. Beaver, b. May 10, 1817, Va., married
Aug. 20, 1842, Mary S. Armstrong in Ohio. They settled at Eight

Wurtemberg, Germany, came with his parents to Huntingdon, Pa.,
when 10 years old. He was a harness maker, having had shops at
Salem, 0., and Delphi, Ind., before he came to Cass Co. June 1856.
He married Mar., 1833, Miss Elizabeth Van Clefe, daughter of Tunis
Van Clefe, a native of N. J. He had a younger brother David. -

(k) Lawson Sheldon, b. Sept. 28, 1827, Ludlow, Vt.,
son of Joel and Fidelia (Pettigrew) Sheldon. Spent more than four
years in the gold fields of California before he settled in Cass
Co., June 1856. He married, Mar. 19, 1857. Plymouth, Vt., Miss
Julia, daughter of Isaac and Sally (Conant) Pollard. He was a
member of the legislature several sessions. - Chapman, pp. 935-7.

aged 91 years. He came to Nodaway Co., Mo., in 1842 and moved his

Mar. 1856 he settled at the falls of the Weeping Water, where he
kept a ranche on the old Government Road. Subsequently he

(n) Robert C. Elvin, b. May 11, 1823, Paisley,
Scotland, son of John and Mary A. (Barnett) Elvin, married Mar.
16, 1845, Martha Baird, a native of county Monaghen, Ireland. He
was a merchant, farmer, physician and a preacher for the Latter
