HENRY1 BENNETT, IPSWICH, MASSACHUSETTS,
AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS.

   I. HENRY1 BENNETT was born in England about 1629. He was in Ipswich, Massachusetts, as early as 1650-1, when he married Lydia Perkins, daughter of John and Judith (Gates) Perkins, who had been baptised at Boston, June 3, 1632. She died, probably before 1672, and he married, secondly, Mrs. Mary (Smith) (Call) Burr, widow of John Burr (died April 21, 1672), and formerly wife of Phillip Call. Henry Bennett, who was a farmer, was living in 1707 and probably survived his second wife, who died January 12, 1707/8. The following children were born at Ipswich, but the list may not be complete.(a)

   II. JACOB2 BENNETT (Henry1) was born at Ipswich, Massachusetts, about 1651 and died there suddenly, March 5, 1685/6. His wife, who survived him, was named Sarah.(c)

   III. STEPHEN3 BENNETT (Jacob2, Henry1) was born about 1681, probably at Ipswich, Massachusetts, and married in Ipswich, Susannah Fuller, daughter of James and Mary (Ring) Fuller, the banns being published Sept. 24, 1709. He was a cordwainer and spent much of his life at Ipswich, but at various times he lived in Wenham, Rowley and Boxford. He died October 1747.(e) The list of children may not be complete.

   IV. JAMES4 BENNETT (Stephen3, Jacob2, Henry1) was baptised at Wenham, Massachusetts, May 14, 1727, and married in Ipswich, July 3, 1751, Sarah Dodge, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Dodge) Dodge, of Ipswich Hamlet, now Hamilton. In 1754 he moved with his young family to Woburn. James Bennett served as a soldier in the French and Indian War, being in Captain Jonathan Butterfield's company, stationed at Crown Point from April to November 1759. He also served for short periods in the Revolution. He became a large land owner both in Woburn and Billerica. In 1782 he sold his homestead in Woburn and bought a farm in Groton, where he afterwards lived. He died there, July 10, 1809, his wife surviving till May 27, 1810.(i)

He married at Groton, January 6, 1830, Lucinda Hall Nutting, daughter of Joseph Danforth and Lucinda (Keep) Nutting, who was born at Groton, July 21, 1811, and died, December 12, 1870. The older children were born at Groton, the three youngest ones at Mason, New Hampshire.(j)

He married at Boston, Massachusetts, June 27, 1865, Abby Ann Torrey, who was born December 23, 1840, and died at Groton, September 17, 1939. Their children were born at Groton.
