Deb Hoskins <dhoskins@windstream.net> * |
------------------------------------------------* Notes from Deb Hoskins:
My Johnson Co. families include: HOSKINS, LOPER, WALKER, and related families. By the way Martha Hoskins fathers name was Henry Welch Hoskins, not Henry William. Her mother Cymantha Hoskins also resided in Johnson Co., and her (Cymantha's) daughter Luranye Adams was the first person to be buried in the Crab Orchard Cemetery, which was donated I believe, by Marcus Walker for this purpose. I also have reason to believe that Sarah Jane (Loper) Hoskins, and her husband, Sylvester Hoskins are buried in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.
From a newspaper article Crab Orchard-Aug 21, 1890:
DIED-At her home in Crab Orchard, Aug. 20th, 1890, Jane, wife of Sylvester Hoskins. The people of the community sympathize with the bereaved husband and family. Although the weather was quite unfavorable, the funeral services held at the M.E. church were well attended.
From the same area of the paper it mentions:
H.H. Haskins (should be Hoskins), editor of the Norcatur Register (Norcatur, KS), is in town today. Also, Mrs. Melissa Kelsey (niece of Sylvester Hoskins) of Glen Rock (should be Guide Rock), returned to her home Monday after a short visit with friends and relatives at this place.
If you run across these names, I would be glad for the info. Thanks, Deb Hoskins------------------------------------------------
** Notes from Glenn Burow:
During the typing of this FRANK page it was noted that Eliza Frank who is now the wife of Gottfried Burow is known as Louisa Frank in the pioneer sketch written about Gottfried Burow. She apparently went by the name of Louisa. It is not known which is her correct given name.
BUROW page notes:
1. Gottfried's wife Louisa has been referred to as Eliza in the pioneer sketch for her brother William A. Frank. She apparently went by Louisa, but it is not known which is her actual given name.
2. In reference to the children: The son named Gottfried is actually Godfred.
3. Louisa came to Nebraska in 1866 not 1877 as stated in the write-up.
26 July 2000 - NOTES:
As far as we can recall, the first articles from this book were typed & posted in 1997 for the CARMAN and the CAMPBELL families. The only copy of the book available was at the NSHS Library in Lincoln, and Bill Wever copied pages for those who posted queries on the Johnson County website. It was too costly to copy all the pages.
Now, in the year 2000, Pam Rietsch has secured the book as part of the MARDOS Collection. All of the Johnson County bios are posted as files that reproduce the books appearance. In another month or two, the bios of Pawnee County will be added. At that point, the "yellow pages" will vanish - and in their place will be the full text with the photos. This volunteers page will remain in "yellow" and includes the additional notes from those early typists. It is a reminder that volunteers working together can do a great job toward getting a book on-line. Thanks to all of you for your contributions!
