THE NASSAU, SCHODACK, AND CHATHAM MUTUAL ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION CHATHAM COLUMBIA COUNTY NEW YORK By Capt. Franklin Ellis317 1878 The Nassau, Schodack, and Chatham Mutual Assurance Association was organized in 1856. It carries at present about five hundred thousand dollars in risks on detached buildings in Chatham, and has from the first afforded reliable and cheap assurance. The home office of the company is at Nassau, and Abel Merchant has been the secretary since its organization. The grounds of the Columbia County Agricultural Society are within the corporate limits of Chatham Village, but the history of that body is elsewhere given.
