SOME OLD DOCUMENTS In looking over papers in my possession of one hundred years old and over I find enrolled a large number of names, and twenty on the back of the following order, Marching orders, Kings district, 8th May, 1780. Capt. John DAVIS The enemy are on the march towards our frontier. You are therefore hereby ordered to cause one-half of your company to march forthwith to Johnstown with eight days' provision, well armed and accoutered, there to receive further orders. Signed W. B. WHITING, Col. The names that follow are the names of men of the days of 1762 to 1780, and from which many of the families now living in Columbia county sprang. I thought it might be of interest to some of your readers to have their names recalled to memory, who were active in those stirring days which aid the foundation for the government which we enjoy to-day.
