Nel Hatcher 11 Jan. 2000 (HALL, KUHNS, MARSHALL, WEBSTER) Benjamin Hall bn ca. 1787, NC, probable children - Nathan, James, Joseph, John B., Benjamin A., Rebecca. Benjamin is a landowner in 1840, Milltown, Guernsey Co. In 1850 census he has in his household: Ben A, age 29, Zelpha, age 20 (possibly wife of Ben A), Rebecca Marshall, 36, and her kids, Stephen, Samuel, and Zelpha Marshall. Also in the house is Hannah Webster, age 7. In household of James Hall, living next to Ben, is Rebecca Marshall, age 11. In household of John B. Hall is Sarah Marshall, age 12. In household of Jacob Kuhns is Benjamin Marshall, age 13. Jacob Kuhns is the brother of Anna Kuhns, wife of John B. Hall. Rebecca Marshall's husband Adam Marshall was murdered in 1849. It appears she returned to her father's home while some of the children stayed with other family members. I am aware of the Quaker Hall family in Millwood, but do not have any indications that my Halls were Quaker, yet they seem to be marrying into the same families as the Quaker line. I believe the Quaker line also came from NC, but not positive. I have wondered if there is a relationship, but possibly Benjamin Hall rejected the Quaker faith. Any help at all appreciated. Many members of this extended family moved to Warren Co., IA in the mid 1850s.

Carolyn Robinson 7 Dec. 1999 (ROBINSON) I am seeking information on the parents/siblings of Thomas M. Robinson, born Nov 1849. On Aug 22, 1864 Thomas enlisted in the 174th OVI during Civil War claiming to be 18 when he was, in actuality, not quite 16. The National Archive info pertaining to his service record states his place of residence at the time of enlistment was Oxford Twp, Guernsey Co., OH. When Thomas eventually had children of his own, he listed his place of birth as "Batesville, OH" on their birth certificates. However, the Civil War service file states he was born in Guernsey, OH. I'm confused. Was there a Batesville in Guernsey Co. in 1849? I only know of one "Batesville" and it is in Noble Co. Family lore states that during the war, Thomas learned of the death of at least one brother and their father. He never returned to OH. Didn't he have a mother who would have worried about him? Or sisters? If anyone out there has access to 1860 Guernsey Co., OH census and could look at any Robinson listings for Oxford Co., I'd appreciate it. Thomas would have been 10 years of age, with at least one older brother. Depending on when the 1850 census was taken, he would have been approx. 4-9 months of age. He arrived in Texas in the late 1870s and remained there until his death in the early 1900s. I don't know where he was for the period immediately subsequent to his military discharge in 1865 and 1872, but I know he had at least one child (name unknown) before he married in Hunt Co., Texas. Unfortunately, I cannot go forward with this genealogy without discovering the name of Thomas' father, his approx. age, and state of nativity. Thanks so much for your help.

Joe Burt 12 Nov. 1999 (EMDE, SLAYMON) Harry "Dutch" Emde came to Cambridge when a young man from somewhere in Germany. He was my maternal grandfather and died in 1937, the year before I was born. Awhile back I became infatuated with genealogy and presently am trying to trace his whereabouts in Germany. Also, would like to find if I have any relatives there. I believe he emigrated in the late 19th century, possibly by way of Pittsburgh. He married Ellen "Ella" Slaymon at St.Benedict church on Sept.8, 1899 although he was not himself Catholic. He was a foreman at the tin mill in Cambridge, and lived at 329 N. 4th street.. He was the proud owner of one of the first cars in Cambridge and was one of the early grand exalted rulers at the Cambridge Elks Club. He and Ella had six children, one of whom was named after him, and later owned the Stag Bar on South Eighth Street, just off Main. Other than that I know very little of him and would like to know a lot more. I invite e-mail correspondance from anyone knowing about him.
Sandra Brands 12 Nov. 1999 (ADDY, WILLIAMS, SULLIVAN, NORRIS, SEWARD, BURSON, ACKLES/ECKLES) I've just learned that both of my father's grandparents have roots in Guernsey Co., Ohio, though, bizarrely, they probably never knew they had that in common. My great-grandmother, Ethel Sadie Williams, was the daughter of Sadie J. Addy (d/o Robert Addy and Susan Sullivan) and George Thomas Williams, b. Dec. 1866. Unfortunately, I have been totally unable to figure out where George Thomas Williams springs from. I suspect he had to be in or around Guernsey Co., because that's where he married Sadie in 1887. I have tried to find his death certificate -- nope. I've contacted the cemetery where he was buried -- the only concrete information they could share with me was that there's an outstanding bill since 1942! If anyone knows anything about Williams families in Guernsey Co., Coshocton or Muskingham, please, please contact me.
I am also trying to track down Susan Sullivan's parents. I ordered her Civil War widow's pension file about 2 months ago and so far have heard nothing. What's even more intriguing is that another pension application was filed against Robert Addy, s/o Anthony Turner Addy and Sarah Norris -- by a 12-year-old boy named Isaac Seward. Who is Isaac Seward?
I am also looking for any information on Joseph R. Burson and Jane Ackles/Eckles who were married in Guernsey Co. in 1834. Thanks in advance.
Lucy Wolfe 10 Nov. 1999 (McCANN) Is there anyone on this list who is familiar with Old Senecaville Cemetery??? I could use some help in locating the grave of James McCann. Malcolm Graham 10 Nov. 1999 (WARNE, LUZADER, PATTERSON, GILLESPIE, GRAHAM) I would be most happy to know of any stories in Wolfe's "Stories of Guernsey County" that pertain to my family. The family is as follows: Thomas Warne came to Guernsey County in 1798. His son was Jonathan married to Martha Luzader. His son was Elijah married to Julia A. Patterson. Next was Charles Edwin married to Margaret Gillespie. Daughter of Ed was my mother Beatrice married to Perry Graham. I'm particularly interested in stories or obituaries that tell me something about these folks. Thanks for any help you can give.
