This page part of the Wallowa County AGHP Site

Named for Chief Joseph of the Nez Perc Indian Tribe.

Jim Reavis has contributed many of the photos on this page.

Standing on a hill east of the city, the Joseph high school commands a wonderful view of one of the most beautiful landscapes in the land.  The mountains stretch away to the northwest, on the left, and the highly improved farms extend in every other direction.  Beyond the valley rise to the low rolling hills, in which there has been such extensive development of late years, and where a large part of the county's grain is raised on a steadily increasing acreage.  The school building is a substantial, convenient structure in which all departments of the Joseph schools had quarters.  Prof. E. L. Coe is superintendent of the school, which is the most prosperous condition.  Photo by Juve & Vergere
