Gwin, John #2 (25 APR 1838 - 23 DEC 1897)
John C. Gwin of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) died at his home on Thursday evening, Dec. 23, 1897, of heart disease. He was appearing well during the day and ate supper as usual and in the evening attended services in the church and went home about 8 o’clock. His wife returned home from the store about 10 o’clock and found him lying on the bed, he having expired probably an hour or so previous. The shock completely prostrated the members of the family. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church at Loyal.
Deceased was one of the oldest settlers of this county, coming to the county when it was in its infancy and was identified with its advancement. He was a man who possessed scores of friends and was ever true to them. He was a jolly good fellow and did all in his power to lighten the load of trouble and care. The familiar form is still in death and his hearty laugh will no longer be heard by those who were wont to meet him in the daily walks of life. He sleeps the last long sleep.
