Elizabeth Sauter (18 Dec 1883 – 21 Dec 1974)

Mrs. Elizabeth Sauter, 91, Princeton, former Dorchester resident, died Saturday at Berlin Memorial hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran church, Dorchester, and burial took place in Dorchester Memorial cemetery. The body lay in state at Kraut-Maurina funeral home, Dorchester.

The former Elizabeth Tessmer was born December 18, 1883 in Germany and was married to Charles Sauter January 14, 1904 at Dorchester. He died October 22, 1958.

The couple lived in Dorchester for two years and then operated a farm in the town of Holton until 1935 when they moved to Tomahawk. She returned to Dorchester in 1962 and for the past one and one-half years she made her home with her son, Lawrence, Princeton.

Mrs. Sauter was selected as Dorchester’s centennial queen in 1973 being the eldest living resident there at the time.

In addition to her son Lawrence, Mrs. Sauter is survived by a daughter, Amanda, Mrs. Russell Lind, Elmwood, Ill.; another son, Elmer, Hartford; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hurth of Hartford and Mrs. Martha Juedes and Mrs. Eva Curtiss of Wausau; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
