Uhlmann, William (10 March 1878 - 29 June 1969)

Funeral services for William George Uhlmann, 91, of Neillsville, who died here Sunday, were held from the Georgas Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Uhlmann was born to Frank and Emelia (Greeler) Uhlmann March 10, 1878, in Ashippun, where he received his education. He was married to Emma Buss on June 1, 1903, in Dodge County. He worked as a cheesemaker until 1906, when the family moved to Clark County and farmed in the Town of York. They lived in Loyal for two years, but returned to farm in York until 1945, when they retired and moved to Neillsville. Mrs. Uhlmann died in 1958, and he then resided in the Town of Weston, in his home near his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Shaw. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters; Mrs. Calvin (Elnora) Mills of Owen and Mrs. Everett (Erline) Shaw of Neillsville; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Kooken of Porterville, Cal., and Mrs. Arnold (Hattie) Jensen of Strathmore, Cal.; a brother, Alvin, of Hawthorne, Cal.; six grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Donald Mills, Kenneth Eddy, Ronald Shaw, Verland Shaw, Robert Gaiel and Gene Caulkins. Arlyn Mills sang, “What a Friend we Have in Jesus” and “The Lord’s Prayer,” accompanied by Victor Lehmann.

Those from out-of-town attending included: Mrs. Josephine Kooken of Porterville, Cal.; Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Mills and Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Mills and Family of Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mills and Milton Pagelsdorf of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gaiel and family of Bessemer, Mich.; Ray Shaw of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Caulkins and family of Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Buchert, Mrs. Clara Schuett, Mrs. Ella Walter and Mrs. Otto Grath of Oconomowoc; Mrs. Lucille Lunka of Willard; Leo Stanley, Mrs. Edward Anderegg and Mrs. Edward Johnson of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Leland Bandelow of Menomonie
