In the First
Century of the History of Springfield: The Official Records from 1636 to
1736 with an Historical Review and Biographical Mention of the Founders
by Henry M. Burt, Burt lists four men with the name of Samuel
Bliss.
The "Samuel Bliss
Sr.", as referred to by Burt, is the son of Thomas Bliss and
Margaret Hulins, born about 1642, married Mary Leonard, daughter of
John and Sarah Leonard, November 10, 1665, and died 1720. His biography, page
533, vol. 2, is shown below. Other Samuel Bliss records may be

Bliss, son of Nathaniel Bliss and Catherine Chapin, b. 1647, married
Sarah Stebbins 1672, died 1749. Samuel
Bliss, son of Samuel Bliss and Sarah Stebbins, b. 1677, died 1692. Samuel
Bliss, son of Lawrence Bliss and Lydia Wright, b. 1662, married Hannah
Stiles 1686-7, died 1733. Samuel
Bliss, Jr., son of Samuel Bliss and Hannah Stiles, b. 1701, married
Elizabeth Chapin 1735, died after 1752. |
SAMUEL BLISS.
Samuel Bliss
married Mary Leonard, daughter of John and Sarah Leonard, November 10,
1665. He received several grants of land from the town,at Freshwater
Brook and on the north side of Agawam River, at Ackanunset, at the
latter place 35 acres. He was Selectman in 1685, 92, and 99. He
died March 23, 1720, aged 96, outliving all his brothers living here.
His widow died January 1, 1724.
