** Note from the Albion Recorder, Saturday, September 19, 1891, p. 5
"Jerome Bliss was arrested Monday evening on complaint of James L. Miller, for
assault and battery upon his father, Samuel Bliss. He was taken to Marshall
that night and placed in jail. The assault and battery was not serious, but
Mr. Bliss, who was in the asylum for twelve years, but has been out and at
his trade of printer for the past three, has of late shown such unmistakable
symptoms of insanity that he was not deemed safe to be at large and the
arrest was made not really with a view to pushing the criminal charge, but
to afford the opportunity to keep him safe until the question of his sanity
could be passed upon. The hearing to test his sanity was had before Judge
Ingersoll Friday, and Mr. Bliss was adjudged insane and committed to the
asylum at Kalamazoo. It was stated above that he came out of the asylum
three years ago. He at once went to work setting type, at which he is an
expert, and such was his economy and thrift that he came to Albion from
Chicago last spring and deposited in the First National Bank two thousand
dollars, as his savings from three years labor. This money will have to be
devoted to the payment of his expenses at Kalamazoo."  (Information submitted by Frank Passic, Albion Historian)
