Floyd Frances McCrate, Jean's grandfather, born March 8, 1899 in the Oklahoma Territory. He died July 25, 1965 and is buried in Highland Cemetary, Iola, Kansas. He ran away from home at about 11 years of age, He worked for the railroad for a while before going to work for the cement plant at Iola, about age 13. (See Picture Below).

George Rhoads, father of Jasper J. Rhoads, was born in Iowa June, 1858. George left Allen County in the late 1800's with second wife Mary Alice Baker and second family. He was an early settler of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Floyd retired from Iola Cement Plant as an electrician. His wife, Hattie Adeline Smith, was born in Hamlin, Kansas on 2/5/1902 and came with her widowed mother to Iola to settle after her father died and she married Floyd McCrate on 4/6/1920. She died on 4/26/2001 just short of her 100th birthday. The photo shows Floyd at age 44.

Youngest son, in the front, is Jack McCrate, graduated from Iola Highschool. He was born 8/11/1930 and died, Beaumont, Texas, on 9/2002.

Standing in the back is son D. D. "Bud" McCrate. He was born 9/12/1924. He retired in Iola and was co-owner of Merchants Supply until his reirement.

Daughter is Jennetta May McCrate (Rhoads - wife of Sheridan), born Iola 4/27/1922 and died 6/28/1993. She worked at Beech Aircraft during WWII. She is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Humbolt.
