·         Mr. E. D. AMSDEN arrived from the "Lo" country on Wednesday, the 3d inst. As usual he looks hale and hearty.

 

·         Capt. DAVENPORT, who had been spending a good part of the summer in Missouri, arrived in our city last week. The Captain's conversational powers cannot be excelled.

 

·         Mr. Wm SWIGGATE "still lives" and is putting up an addition to his dwelling. Don't forget the paint or whitewash, Billy.

 

·         Mr. C. H. PRATT, and the 'Senior' who went 'a courting' over to Fort Scott have not yet returned. We appeal to the MONITOR man to know the particulars of their detention.

 

·         A one-horse-magic-lantern Panorama exhibited here on Tuesday evening, of this week. Such institutions are a bore wherever they make their appearance.

 

·         Hotel arrivals at Humboldt House: D. N. COOLEY, Big Creek, Kans.; Dyer SMITH, Fort Scott, Kans.' Mrs. SMITH, St. Louis, Mo.

 

·         Land contest: Jonathan JONES is hereby notified that Thomas HEMENWAY will on Monday the 23d day of July, 1867, at 10 o'clock A.M., submit proof of his allegation that said Jonathan JONES has abandoned his claim to the south half of southeast corner of Section 28, Township 25 of Range 19, East. Land Office, Humboldt, Kansas, June 24, 1867.

 

·         Land contest: Elijah D. FOX is hereby notified that Thomas L. FERRIER will on the 20th day of July, 1867, at 9 o'clock A.M. submit proof before us at this office in support of his allegation that said Elijah D. FOX has abandon his claim to the northeast quarter of Section 29, Township 23, South of Range 4, East, under the Homestead Act of 1862. No. 910. Land Office, Humboldt, Kansas, June 18th, 1867.

 

·         John BOYER, Jr., is hereby notified that Edward SUMMERFIELD will on the 9th day of August at 10 o'clock A.M. offer proof before us at this office in support of his allegation that said BOYER has abandoned his Pre-Emption claim to the west half of north-west quarter, Section two (2) Township twenty-six (26) Range sixteen (16) East.   Land Office, Humboldt, Kansas, July 6, 1867.

 

·         Jackson BOWER is hereby notified that James T. RILEY will, on the 7th day of August, 1867, at 10 o'clock A.M. offer proof before us at this office in support of his allegation that said Jackson BOWER has abandon his claim under the Homestead Act to the W.  1/2 of N.E.1/4 of N.W. 1/4 of Section 32, and the S.W. 1/4 of S.E. 1/4 of Section 29, Town 25 south of Range 10 east.   Land Office, Humboldt, Kansas, June 29th, 1867.  Evert De WITT* having filed in this office his petition for an opportunity to establish his Pre-emption right to the North-west quarter of Section Twenty-seven (27), Township Twenty-five (25) South of Range Seventeen (17) East, and the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Rail Road Company, by John R. GOODIN their Attorney, having filed a protest against the entry of said land. Now therefore, the said Evart De WITT*, the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Rail Road Company, and all other Corporations or parties interested are hereby notified that they will have an opportunity to offer proof before us at this office on the 21st day of August, 1867, at 10 o'clock A.M. for and against said entry.   Land Office, Humboldt, Kansas, June 28th, 1867.  *[Compiler's note: Mr. De Witt's first name appears spelled two different ways in this article]
