Notes for Malcolm Blue:
On these pages, you will find material that has taken my family and me several years to gather. I do not claim that the research found on the pages that follow is 100% accurate, but I have tried to verify each item. This is still a work in progress. If you find errors, please e-mail me, Charles R. Collins: crc1064@apex.net
I want to thank the following persons who have contributed to this work: Ray McElroy, Reba Katheryn McElroy, Diana Raye Yancey, Marjorie M. Markovich-Miller, William H. Blue, and many others. Before we start, let me say that I am not a Blue descendant (my wife is). Therefore, I can say that this is a very successful and interesting line. The Blue line has produced many famous scientists, doctors, lawyers, and political leaders (including President Ronald Wilson Reagan).
Now, on to Malcolm Blue of Cumberland County, NC. Some important dates during his life: 1) the French & Indian War 1755-1760 (it was started by George Washington and became a world war that lasted seven years in Europe), and 2) the Revolutionary War 1775-1783. Malcolm first appears in the records of Cumberland County, NC in 1768, when he bought land on Locks Creek from Peter Brown. This land was sold to Thomas Murphy in 1788 and 1791. In 1789, Malcolm bought 366 acres at the head of Sandy Creek, touching Fox Branch, from Archibald McLean. In 1800, son John transferred land to his brother, James. This land was John's share of his father's estate on Fox Branch on Goldsboro Road, 7 miles east of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC. In 1826, son Malcolm, residing in SC, sold to Solomon and Elizabeth Council all of his rights to land on Fox Branch and Russocks Creek in Cumberland County, NC.

Notes for James Blue:
In 1800, his brother John turned over to him land on Fox Branch on Goldsboro Road (John's share of his father's estate). The last record of James is in 1828 when he sold land to Hardy Ryals.

Notes for John Blue:
John migrated from near Wade, Cumberland County, NC to Fairview, Christian County, KY in the early 1800s. A familiar "three brothers" story is related in Perrin's 1884 history of Christian County, KY. It states that brothers Neil, John, and Sandy BLUE went from Cumberland County, NC to Christian County, KY with the GALBRAITH family. In the 1810 Census of Christian County, John appears as head of a family containing: one male age over 45, two males age 16/25, three males 10/15, two males under 10, one female 26/44 and one female 10/15. Todd County, KY was formed from Christian County on April 1, 1820. Fairview, KY was now in Todd County. Census records for Todd County for the years 1820-1840 are in my file. In the 1820 Census of Todd County, Margaret, John's wife, appears as the head of household (John had died). Five sons and one daughter are still living with her. On October 8, 1835, an Indenture of Bargain and Sale was entered into in Christian County. Later, it was recorded in Todd County in Deed Book V - page 483, and delivered to owner on January 30, 1839. This instrument identifies all of John's living children except Daniel (there were 7 still living). Each child had a 1/7 interest in John's 200 acre estate, subject to their mother's death.
