To the sons and
daughters of Massachusetts, who love her history and traditions, this
little book is dedicated.
Many things given
therein were dug from mines never before explored by the literary
craftsman, and have the value of original discoveries. They were
first printed in various journals between the years 1880-1890 which fact
should be borne in mind by the reader who discovers that certain
conditions portrayed in the descriptive articles no longer exist.
