He was sixty years and two months old. Mr. Ahlers came to America in 1857 with his parents, coming directly to Cedar county, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Ahlers, April 24th, 1883, and had he lived a few days longer would have celebrated his 31st wedding anniversary. To this union four daughters were born, all of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Buschkamp of Fordyce, and Mary, Anna and Clara, living at home. These with the widow remain to mourn the loss of a faithful husband and ever kind and indulgent father. Mr. Ahlers, being among the early settlers of Cedar county, passed through the hardships and privations that all of them endured and was always cheerful and hopeful, finally winning a compentency from the soil, and passed away with the assurance that his family were in comfortable circumstances and would be well cared for after his departure. The family has the sympathy of all in their sorrow. The funeral was held from the Catholic Church at Bow Valley Wednesday morning, April 15, mass being said by his pastor Rev. Birbnach. Card of thanks We take this method of thanking the neighbors and friends for their many kind acts of sympathy and aid during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father. Your kindness and help is deeply appreciated and will ever be remembered by us. Mrs. Herman Ahlers and daughters.
