When she was three years old her parents moved to Sabula, Jackson County, Iowa. At the age of 16 she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. On March 12, 1874, she was married to Gurden A. Hathaway at Sabula, Iowa. In 1892, Mr. and Mrs. Hathaway and family moved to Knox County Nebraska near Magnet where they have made their home since. Mrs. Hatheway died of pneumonia November 28, 1908 after an illness of about two weeks. Her husband, three sons, an adopted daughter and a sister survive her. She leaves a large number of friends who will remember her for her good works and kindly ministry. Mr. and Mrs. Hatheway have ever taken an active interest in the work of the church. The first year in Knox County they organized the Sunday School one half mile north of Magnet, which has gone on continuously ever since, years ago removed to Magnet. The funeral was held at Magnet, November 29, from the M.E. church by her pastor and burial at the Magnet Cemetery. Truly she rests from her labors and her works do follow her.
