THERE IS NO MEETING DURING
THE MONTH OF DECEMBER
Holiday Greetings are extended to our members
and friends who read our web site.
Our November meeting was presented by Margie Sobotka on the
International Czech Conference held at Houston, Texas in late October. The conference was
a great success and Margie met many of her friends who are on the Board. She reported on
several programs, one that was outstanding was on the new push for DNA connections to
ancestors. Her second highlight was to present the Annual Czech award to Leo Baca. Mr Baca
has written many volumes of Czech Immigration books; a copy of all on our shelves.
Claire offers an apology to the readers. In the November issue of the news letter, her
fingers caught the wrong key in the Illinois death information and the dates are in error.
This is how it should read:
Since May 15, 2002 the index to death records for Illinois, 1916 1950 has
been online, provided by the IL State Archives.
OUR SYMPATHY
Our deepest sympathy is extended to Mildred Von Seggern and family in the loss of her
brother, Harold Meyer on 3 November 2003.

MASONIC BALL
At the Court House hall Wednesday night, was one of the most pleasant and successful
entertainments that our community has had the privilege of participating in for an age.
The hall was decorated in a very neat manner, with fine pictures and evergreens,
presenting a most cheerful appearance The members of the various committees,
devoted much time and spared no pains to insure a good time to the guests; everything that
could be thought of to add to the comfort or convenience of the company was provided. The
committees had secured sleighs which conveyed the invited guests to and from the hall. The
anterooms at the head of the stairs, were made comfortable for the reception of the ladies
and gentlemen on their arrival. The programme which was interesting and varied, was
arranged to please all. It consisted of Quadrilles, Polkas, Schottishes, Varsovienne,
Virginia Reels etc. The exercises were void of all ostentation....About 11 oclock
supper was announced, numbers were called, and the guests repaired to the Pacific house,
where they found accommodations for twenty-four persons The tables were set three
times, and the last contained as much as the first, and still there was an abundance left.
The host had provided with a liberal hand The oysters were delicious, the turkey
was done nice and brown; the ham was sweet the rolls were light and the luxury of the
dessert perceptible, judging from the many favorable remarks. The Pebble Creek band
furnished the music for this occasion the mere mention of this fact, is a sufficient
guarantee of excellent music. The order of the Mystic Tie seemed inspired in every sinew,
with the spirit of unity They are to be congratulated for the complete success of
the undertaking. When the Fraternity announces a festivity in the future, we expect to see
their friends flock to them in such a manner, as to leave no doubt in the minds of any
that their efforts were truly appreciated.
