848 | 09/25/68 | 1 | 2 | Clark, Mr. | Election Game Exposed. Of Mockery and farce. | Yesterdays Republican says - Lincoln County. - Reliable authority informs, that Mr. Hinman, one of the registrars for the North Platte precinct, has opened a sort of itinerant or traveling registration, for the purpose of perpetrating a fraud at the coming election and electing himself to the Legislature. He had added 140 names to the legal registration of the first 3 days. Messrs. Clark and Collins, the majority of the registration board of that precinct refused to recognize Hinman's action and will certify only the legal vote to the Judges of election. If others are permitted to vote of course the whole poll of Lincoln County will be thrown out as a fraud. Republican. The Board of Canvassers are the Governor, Secretary and Auditor - David Butler, Tom Kennard, John Gillespie. The fraud and robbery has been played from the beginning. Mr. Hinman was appointed Registrar of the North Platte precinct by Gov. Butler, because he was thought fit for E. B. Taylor to use in prescribing Democratic votes from the registration lists. Mr. Taylor was made Deputy Governor by David Butler, and his first work of wrong was at Grand Island where he induced the County Commissioners of that county to refuse obedience to the plain statutes of the State, requiring them to organize precincts in the unorganized counties of Buffalo and Dawson. This act has defrauded hundreds of honest citizens of their sacred right to vote. And the purpose was to have the two Registrars refuse to certify the Registry and thus cause the whole poll of Lincoln County to be thrown out as a fraud. Omaha Herald. |

848 | 09/16/68 | 2 | 4 | Doane, Mr. | Election. Registration. | The radical registrars in some of the precincts have refused to register the name of any person who served in the rebel army during the late war, without the presentation of his oath of allegiance, while in others they have refused to register such persons at all. Proceedings were commenced by Messrs. Doane and Savage to obtain a mandamus from the District Court now in Session in Cass County to compel the registrars to do their duty. The motion was heard before Judge Lake and was argued for the relators by Col. Savage and Judge Briggs and Mr. Haxby for the registrars. The constitution of the State of Nebraska provides that all free male citizens of the U.S. who have resided the required length of time in state, county and precinct shall be electors. Having satisfied the electors as to qualifications of the age, birth place, and length of residence those officers are bound to enter their names as qualified voters.
