NOTES TO STATISTICS. MISSIONARY. The following from Valparaiso came too late for insertion:
Raised for Missions from church |
$73 00 |
" from Sunday school |
10 00 |
Total |
$83 00 |
After the statistics were made up additional amounts were handed to the treasurer of the Missionary Society to make the amount of collections, $1,799.75. J. G. Miller one year ago agreed to add ten per cent to the collections for this cause. This would make $180.00, which added to $1,799.75 = $1,979.75.W. F. M. S. Mrs. M. J. Shelley reports $26.00 received in donations for the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, which amount not coming from any particular charge is not included in the statistics.
EXHORTATION. The statistical tables involve great labor on the part of the statistical secretary and his assistants and any delay in handing in reports causes annoyance. Resolutions are passed urging the preachers to have their statistics in the first day of Conference. Also the directions on the envelope for the statistics urges in the same direction. Notwithstanding all this when the roll is called for statistics and collections, nearly half the members of the Conference fail to respond the first time. Some of the preachers put the matter off until the last day of the session after the columns are all added and want their report inserted, and feel very much put out if the statistical secretary states that it cannot be done. Brethren, cultivate a little promptness in this direction; get your reports in the first day, either by handing them in personally if present, or if from any cause you are necessarily absent from Conference, send by mail to the secretary.
