Memoir,
Alice M. Stanner.Mrs. Alice M. Stanner, wife of Rev. William Stanner, pastor of Plainview circuit, died at the M. E. parsonage in Crawford Valley, Antelope county, Neb., on Saturday, January 20, 1894. The deceased was born in England in 1846 and was converted when but 10 years of age. She joined the Methodist Episcopal church at that time, in which she lived and labored faithfully for thirty-eight years. Her maiden name was Lake. She became the wife of William Stanner in 1886 and bore uncomplainingly the peculiar trials incident to the itinerancy in this comparatively new country. Sister Stanner had been ill for the greater part of the last year, and had suffered so intensely much of the time that the final summons was not unwelcome. She died as dies the Christian, "rejoicing in hope" The funeral services were held at the Crawford Valley M. E. church and were conducted by Rev. Dr. Marquette assisted by the writer of this memoir. Brother Marquette preached an appropriate sermon from the text, "She hath done what she could," in which he paid a touching tribute to the character and work of the deceased. The remains were interred in the Crawford Valley cemetry (sic). May God graciously sustain His bereaved servant, Brother Stanner, in this hour of great affliction.
