MINUTES OF NORTH NEBRASKA CONFERENCE. and History; Frank H. G. Perry, conditioned on History; Emerson E. Hunt, W. A. Rominger, conditioned on Theory of Preaching and History, -- Elmer E. Shafer, Cyrus P. Cheeseman, Wm. D. Stambaugh, Edwin T. Gideon, Wm. K. Gray.
QUESTION VIII was taken up -- "What members are in the studies of the third year?" The characters of the following were passed and they were advanced: Albert V. Wilson, conditioned on Hermeneutics and Church History; Richard J. Millard, Edward W. Erickson, conditioned on Syllabi; Arthur L. Kellogg, Henry H. St. Louis, Richard N. Throckmorton, conditioned on Political Economy. John A. Roads, John T. Crooks, Thomas Bithel, Emory R. Adriance, Thomas P. Donnelly and Robert J. Cocking were continued in the studies of the third year.
QUESTION X was taken up -- "What members have completed the Conference course of study?" The characters of the following were passed, they reported their collections, the committee on examination announced their standing and they were elected to Elder's orders: Elmer E. Hosman, Farnam Ellis and Wm. H. Underwood.
Frank A. High was continued in the studies of the Fourth year.QUESTION XI. -- "What others have been elected and ordained Deacons?"
(a.) As Local Preachers: John N. Gortner; recommended from the Neligh District Conference and Wm. W. Shank, recommended from Omaha District were elected to Deacon's orders.QUESTION IV. -- "Who are admitted on trial?" Elmer E. Day, R. F. Shacklock, John N. Gortner, Joseph C. Ingersoll, John W. Kern, Elsworth Wilcox, Ernest J. Fowler, Edward T. Antrim, Henry H. Burch, William W. Shank, Francis M. Wright and John F. Poucher, and they were introduced to the Conference; the Committee on Examination reported their standing and they were admitted on trial.
Mrs. Isabella Spurlock, Assistant Superintendent of the Mothers' Jewel Home, at York, Nebraska, was introduced and addressed the Conference. J. W. Miller introduced a resolution

concerning the Home which was referred to committee consisting J. W. Miller and J. W. Bovee.
COURSE OF STUDY. -- Report of Commission to arrange a plan for the Conference Course of Study was read and on motion of J. W. Robinson was laid on the table.
On motion of F. M. Sisson, the Lay Electoral Conference was invited to meet with us in joint session Saturday morning at nine o'clock.
On motion of J. B. Maxfield, the Bishop was requested to appoint W. W. Shank, Assistant Editor of the Omaha Christian Advocate.
The transfer of Wm. M. Worley, to the Nebraska Conference was announced and he made farewell remarks, whereupon the following resolution, offered by T. C. Webster, was adopted:
Whereas, In the adjustment of our work, resulting in the transfer of our Brother Wm. Worley from us into another conference, therefore
Resolved, That we pledge him our continued prayers and brotherly love, and if in the providence of God, he shall ever desire to return to us, we will most cordially receive him.

JOHN P. ROE.DEACONESS. -- The following were recommended for the office of Deaconess: Hannah Taylor, June Robinson, Emma F. DeWolf.
Chancellor Isaac Crook addressed the Conference in the interest of the Nebraska Wesleyan University.
The case of O. D. Crawford, a Congregational Minister, who asks recognition of orders, was on motion of D. K. Tindall, referred to the committee on Conference Relations.
A communication asking subscriptions for the Simpson memorial monument was referred to J. M. Bothwell for solicitation.
J. W. Bovee presented a memorial to the General Conference concerning the United States flag in our churches, which was adopted unanimously by a rising vote.
On motion of J. W. Robinson, the Committee on Tracts was constituted a Committee on Sunday-Schools also.

J. R. Gearhart, was appointed to lead devotional exercises tomorrow morning.
Announcements were made and the conference adjourned with the benediction by J. W. Bovee.
SIXTH SESSION -- SATURDAY MORNING. J. R. Gearhart led the devotional exercises. At 8:30 the Bishop took the chair and gave a lecture on "How to Make a Sermon."
The journal of yesterday's session was read and approved.
On motion of D. K. Tindall, T. P. Donnelly was granted a Supernumerary relation at his own request.THE ORDER OF THE DAY -- was taken up and the Lay Electoral Conference was received. The Chairman of that body, C. F. Weller of Omaha, introduced the Secretary, W. R. Jackson of O'Neill, who read the minutes of their proceedings, and on motion of A. Hodgetts they were invited to seats within the bar of the Conference, and all joined in singing "Blest be the tie that binds."
LAY DELEGATES. -- J. D. King of Wayne, and T. L. Mathews of Fremont, lay delegates elect, were introduced and addressed the Conference.
The report of the Committee on Education was read and adopted. (See report).
RELIEF. -- The report of the Relief Commission was read, amended and adopted, and on the nomination of the Presiding Elders the following were constituted a permanent Relief Commission: W. H. H. Pillsbury, J. Gleason, G. A. Luce, A. J. Anderson, J. H. Brooks, C. S. Hayes, T. L. Mathews and J. B. Priest.
The Secretary's financial report was read and referred to the Auditing Committee.

On motion of H. A. Barton the roll was called for subscriptions for publishing the minutes.
EDITOR. -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield the Bishop was requested to appoint J. W. Shank editor of the Omaha Christian Advocate.
TRANSFER. -- A resolution presented by J. W. Shank requesting the transfer to this Conference of J. W. Jennings, of Northwest Nebraska Conference, was adopted.
ARMENIA. -- Papers on the Armenian question, presented by the Bishop, were referred to J. W. Robinson.
REPORTS. -- The reports of the following committees were read and adopted: Bible Cause, Church Extension, Conference Stewards, Conference Relations, Current Book Accounts, District Conference Records, Episcopal Fund, Epworth League, and Missions.
The special committee called for in the Epworth League report were elected as follows: Wm. Gorst, D. C. Winship, N. A. Martin, John Crews and C. N. Dawson.
TRANSFERS. -The names of the following transfers to this Conference were announced: Wm. Stambaugh, J. B. Carns from the Black Hills Mission Conference, and L. K. McNeill from the West Nebraska Conference. Also the following were announced transferred out of this Conference: Wm. M. Worley, to the Nebraska; J. W. Robinson, G. H. McAdam arid Wm. VanBuren to the Black Hills Mission Conference; Charles Snavely to the West Nebraska Conference. J. B. Carnes was introduced to the Conference.
The Committee on Mothers' Jewels Home made their report which was adopted.
The special committee on Educational Work Among the North American Indians reported, and its consideration was deferred.
On motion of J. W. Shank it was ordered that when we adjourn it be to meet at 2:00 this afternoon.
QUESTION IV. -- The Committee on Admission reported in the case of Marks H. Belian, and he was admitted and announced as transferred to the West Nebraska Conference.

MINUTES OF NORTH NEBRASKA CONFERENCE. The Committee on Conference Relations reported in the case of O. D. Crawford, recommending that his credentials be recognized, and the report was adopted and he was instructed by the Bishop to appear with the class to be ordained Elders and take the vows of ordination.
On motion of A. Hodgetts Conference adjourned, Dr. Hartzell pronouncing the benediction.
SEVENTH SESSION-SATURDAY AFTERNOON. Conference convened as per adjournment, with J. W. Shank in the chair.
J. W. Robinson offered prayer.
The minutes of the morning session were read and approved.HOSPITAL. -- The report of the Committee on Methodist Hospital and Deaconess' Home was read and adopted, and C. N. Dawson addressed the Conference in the interest of that work.
PERIODICALS. -The report on periodicals was read, and pending its adoption addresses were made by W. W. Shank and J. W. Shank, editors of the Omaha Christian Advocate.
CHAIR. -- At this point the Bishop took the chair.
MOTION. -- On motion of D. C. Winship the speeches in debate were limited to three minutes.
STATE OF CHURCH. -- Report on State of the Church was read and adopted by a rising vote, and on motion of H. A. Barton the committee was requested to have it published in the New York Christian Advocate.
REPORTS. -- The reports on Sabbath Observance, Tracts and Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society were read and adopted. (See reports.)
The report of the special committee on Educational Work among the Indians was resumed. Pending the adoption of the report Dr. J. C. Hartzell, Secretary of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society, was introduced and addressed the Conference. The report was adopted.

COMMITTEE. -- On motion of G. W. Martin a committee consisting of A. Hodgetts, J. W. Miller and A. L. Mickel was appointed to present the report and memorial to the annual meeting of the Board of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society.
REPORTS. -- The report of the Committee on Temperance was adopted by a rising vote, and it was ordered that it be presented to the editor of the Omaha Christian Advocate for publication.
CONFERENCE EXAMINATIONS. -- The report of the Commission on Conference Examinations was taken from the table and on motion of J. B. Priest it was adopted as the Conference plan of examination and also as a memorial to the General Conference. (See reports.)
The report of the Statistical Secretary was read and adopted.
MOTIONS. -- On motion of A. Hodgetts it was ordered that when we adjourn it be to meet at 7:30 Monday morning.
On motion of F. M. Sisson the Secretary was empowered to edit the minutes.
ADJOURNMENT. -- Announcements were made, the doxology sung and Conference adjourned with the benediction by W. K. Beans.
EIGHTH SESSION-MONDAY MORNING. Conference convened at 7:30 A. M., the Bishop in the chair.
A hymn was sung and T. C. Webster led in prayer.
The minutes of the Saturday afternoon session, were read and approved.Missionary appropriations were read, and the report was adopted.
REPORTS. -- The following reports were adopted, viz: Stewards, Treasurer, Auditing, Sunday-Schools, Resolutions, Conference Epworth League, Statistics, Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary, Societies (see reports).

TRANSFER. -- On motion of D. K. Tindall, the conference requested the Bishop to transfer C. C. Cissel, a supernumerary from the West Nebraska Conference, to this Conference. His transfer was announced and he was made effective.
On motion of J. W. Bovee, the Presiding Elders were made a Committee to set apart a day for fasting, prayer and thanksgiving.
The Standing Committees were elected. (See list).
TRANSFER. -- The Bishop announced the transfer of J. W. Jennings from the Northwest Nebraska Conference to this; also the transfer of Wm. Stambaugh from this Conference to the Northwest Nebraska Conference.
The following resolution was read and adopted:
Resolved, That we gratefully recognize the efficient labors of Rev. W. K. Beans while among us. We bid him God speed in his now field of labor and will always accord to him a cordial welcome to our Conference sessions.

March and April -- Missions and General Conference Expenses.
May -- Conference Claimants.
June -- Education.
July -- Episcopal Fund.
August -- Bible Cause.
September -- M. E. Hospital and Deaconess' Home.The report of the Special Committee on Armenia, was read and adopted.

TRUSTEE. -- On nomination of the Committee on Education C. F. Weller was elected a trustee of the Nebraska Wesleyan University, to fill the unexpired term of J. W. Robinson, transferred.
On motion of A. Hodgetts it was ordered that after the reading of the minutes, and the usual devotional exercises and the reading of the appointments the Conference stand adjourned, sine die.
The following certificate of ordination was announced.
This certifies, that in Fremont, Nebraska, on Sunday, October 6th, 1895, John P. Yost, Loton H. DeWolf, Albert L. Gray, Edward T. George, John N. Gortner, John A. Roads and Wm. W. Shank, were duly ordained Deacons by the undersigned; and at the same place and on the same day, Elmer E. Hosman, Farnam Ellis and Wm. H. Underwood were duly ordained Elders by the undersigned, assisted by several Elders.

EVENING -- Annual Missionary Sermon by W. H. H. Pillsbury. -- A good one. Text: "Thy Kingdom come."
OTHER PULPITS of the city were occupied morning and evening by our pastors.
