called. Their characters were passed; they were represented by their Presiding Elders, their examinations were reported, and they were elected to Elder's orders.
The character of Albert L, Goss was passed, and he was represented by his Presiding Elder, but as he did not appear at examination, he was continued a Deacon of the second class.
The character of Wm. F. Warren was passed; he was represented by his Presiding Elder, his examination was reported, and he was transferred to the list of effective elders, having been previously ordained.
The character of Frederick B. Donisthorpe, a deacon of the first class, was passed. He was represented by his Presiding Elder; his examinations were reported and he was advanced to the second class of Deacons, with the understanding that he bring up logic next year, in which study he was not examined.
The name of Edward J. Hancock was called; he was represented by his Presiding elder, but as he did not appear for examination, he was continued in the first class of Deacons.
Bro. Mead, of the Wisconsin Conference, and Bro. J. J. Fleharty, of Central Illinois Conference, were introduced.
On motion, the location of Conference Seminary was taken up, and on motion, the resolution to request the committee on education to report at nine o'clock to-morrow was so modified as to call for the report at nine o'clock this morning. The resolution was carried.
The Stewards were granted leave of absence to do business connected with their duties to the Conference.
E. Thompson presented a report from the committee on education. See report.
A motion was made limiting the time of each speaker in this discussion to five minutes, and not permitting any one to. speak a second time as long as any one else desired to speak.
A minority report from members of the committee on education was presented. See minority report.
A motion to adopt the minority report was lost.
A motion to lay the minority report on the table was carried.
The following substitute was offered by J. W. Shank:

Resolved, That we will adopt the Nebraska Wesleyan University, if during the coming year they will construct a building at a cost of not less than $5000, and free from debt, and secure an endowment fund of $20,000 cash value.

A. Brigham moved to amend the report so as to add the words:
When the sum of $25,000 in good notes and subscription shall be obtained."
J. W. Stewart moved the following as a substitute for the resolution:
Resolved, That we will locate a Conference Seminary at York, or Osceola, or any other eligible point, on condition that a building worth at least $5000 be provided, together with an endowment of land at actual value, and cash or good notes to the amount of $50,000 within the next year.

Time of the morning session was extended.
The Stewards presented their report. See Report.
The money for Sister Hull was given to H. Burch, who was to carry it to her.
Sister Roberts being present, requested that the money allowed her be given to the orphan children of Bro. Combs.
Bro. Burch also took the money for Sisters Hart and Pritchard. Bro. Esterbrook took the money for Bro. Turman and the children of Bro. Combs, and Bro. Beans the money for Sister Slaughter.
The following local preachers coming properly recommended (see recommendations on file), and having passed satisfactory examinations, were represented by their Presiding Elders, and elected to Deacons' orders:
William G. Olinger, Alfred Hodgetts, Oscar P. Sheldon, John A. Larkin, William S. Holland, David Fetz, George G. Senser, Chas A. Martin, Albert H. Summers, Chessman B. Lenfest, and Louis Barr.
It was ascertained by call of districts that there were no applications for Elders' orders among the local preachers.
The name of J. M. Adair was substituted for that f D. S. Davis on the committee on church extension, Bro. Davis having left the seat of Conference.
A communication from Dr. Kynett was handed by the Bishop to the committee on church extension.
Announcements were made.

Bishop Harris presented the
following certificate of ordination of Deacons and Elders:
This is to certify that in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska, on the 12th day of October, 1879, the following persons were by me ordained to the order of Deacons in the Methodist Episcopal Church, viz.:
Cyrus A. Lewis, William G. Olinger, Alfred Hodgetts, Oscar P. Sheldon, John A. Larkin, William S. Holland, David Fetz, George G. Senser, Charles A. Mastin, Albert H. Summers, Chessman B. Lenfest, and Lewis Barr.
And in the same city, on the same day, several Elders assisting in the service, the following persons were ordained to the order of Elders in the Methodist Episcopal Church, namely:
John Q. A. Fleharty and Peter VanFleet.
Given under my hand at Lincoln, Nebraska, this 13th day of October, 1879.

The 9th question--Who are the superannuated preachers?--was taken up.
The characters of L. W. Smith, C. W. Giddings, Z. B. Turman, L. Janney, J. Adriance, and J. C. Cannon were passed and they were continued in the superannuated relation.
The character of W. D. Gage passed, and he was placed on the supernumerary list.
The character of J. W. Taylor was passed and he was placed on the effective list.
In the case of D. H. May, complaint having been made that he did not forward his certificate, which was found to be true by the Conference, he was granted a location.
The 20th question--" Where shall the next Conference be held?" was taken up.
Osceola, Falls City, and Nebraska City were nominated. Representations were made of each of the three places. Nebraska City was chosen.
The minutes of the Lay Electoral Conference were presented, and ordered to be filed with Conference papers.
On motion, the relation of G. W. DeLaMatyr was changed from effective to supernumerary, at his own request.
The order of the day--the Red Cloud church--was taken up. Bro. Reilly represented the case.

On motion, it was ordered that the roll of the Conference be called for subscriptions to help the Red Cloud church. A subscription of $192.80 and $40.50 in cash was obtained.
On motion, Bro. Reilly was appointed a committee to circulate a subscription among those who were not present during the call.
The committee on Church Periodicals submitted their report, as follows:

Dr. B. St. James Fry, editor of the Central Christian Advocate, addressed the Conference in the interest of our periodical literature, especially the C. C. A.
On motion the report of the committee was adopted.
The Statistical Secretary made his report as follows:

The committee on Education reported as follows:

On motion, the report was taken up seriatim.
Item 1, relating to appointment of Trustees of the Conference Seminary, was amended by adding the names of T. B. Lemon and G. W. Elwood, and adopted.
Item 2, relating to the appointment of a board of visitors to the same institution, was amended by striking out the names of T. B. Lemon and G. W. Elwood and inserting the names of C. L. Brockway and P. C. Johnson and adopted.
Item 3, relating to procuring a charter for the Nebraska Conference Seminary, was adopted.
Item 4, relating to moneys in the hands of the committee, was amended so as to exclude moneys collected on children's day or belonging to the children's fund from its operation, and adopted.
Item 5, relating to taking a collection for the cause of education, was modified by fixing the time for taking the collection "during the month of December, 1879," and adopted.
Item 6, relating to patronage, was adopted.
Bro. Wilson introduced a resolution requesting the Bishop to appoint E. Thomson, Principal and Financial Agent of the Conference Seminary, and, 2d, pledging the sympathy and aid of the Conference in that work. Adopted.

The report of the committee then proceeded.
Item 7, John Gallagher was appointed Conference Visitor to Garrett Biblical Institute. Adopted.
Item 8, relating to the State University, was amended by a resolution submitted by W. E. Morgan, and unanimously adopted by a rising vote.
The report as thus amended and modified was adopted.
On motion, it was ordered that when we adjourn it shall be to meet at 2:30 o'clock P.M., to consider reports.
An evening session was ordered at 7:30 P.M.
S. P. VanDoozer introduced a resolution appointing a board of visitors to the Nebraska Wesleyan University, consisting of the pastors of David City, York, Columbus, Seward, and Osceola, and the Presiding Elder of Omaha District, requesting them to report at the next Annual Conference.
On motion, resolution adopted.
On motion, the balance of the Sunday morning collection in the hands of the Stewards was appropriated to the orphan children of A. J. Combs.
The Conference adjourned, with the
benediction by L. W. B. Long.
AFTERNOON SESSION--FIFTH DAY.
Conference met at 2.30 P.M.
J. G. Miller in the chair by appointment of the Bishop.
P. C. Johnson led the devotional exercises.

The committee on Temperance submitted their report: (See Report.)
On motion it was adopted, with the understanding that the State Temperance Alliance should pay for its pnblication (sic).
The committee on Sunday Schools presented a report which was adopted. (See Report.)
The committee on Bible Cause reported that they had money and receipts in their hands for the Bible Cause, and they were

directed by motion to forward the same to the agent of the American Bible Society.
This said committee also presented their report, which was adopted.
The committee on N. Y. Book Accounts, and the committee on Current Book Accounts stated they had no report.
The committee on W. F. M. Society presented a report, which was adopted.
The committee on Church Extension presented a report, which was adopted.
The committee on post-offices stated they had no report.
The Auditing committee presented a report. (See Report.)
It was moved to strike out the word "honesty."
After some discussion the motion was withdrawn.
It was moved to amend so as to strike out all after the word "find," and insert "them to be correct."
Previous question moved and carried.
The amendment was carried.
J. S. Orr moved the following:
Resolved, That the report of the Auditing committee be ordered back, with instructions to have it amended so as to conform to the usages of the M. E. church in the matter of disbursing missionary money.
Laid on the table.
It was moved that the main question be now put. Carried.
The report as amended was adopted.
The Stewards made an additional report, which was adopted.
The committee on Publishing the minutes presented their report.
The first item was adopted.
Action on the second item was deferred until the evening session.
The third item was also laid over until the evening session.
The Publishing Agent made his report concerning the work of last year.
The report of the committee on Tracts was presented and adopted.
The committee on the State of the church within the bounds of the Conference presented a report.

It was moved to adopt the report.
It was moved to amend by striking out that part of the report which related to wine drinking.
The motion was withdrawn.
It was moved to amend so as to strike out that part of the report which is not in harmony with our statistical figures, and that which is contrary to our experience, such as attendance upon theatres, circuses; card playing, &c.
Amendment was laid on the table.
Moved to strike out that part of the report relating to Union Sunday School.
The amendment was, on motion, laid on the table.
The Report was then adopted.
The committee on Freedman's Aid Society presented a report, which was adopted.
The committee on the State of the country presented a report, which was adopted.
Committee having in charge the Episcopal fund reported, and their report was adopted.

On motion, the relation of Charles Reilly, L. W. B. Long, and G. W. Elwood was changed from effective to supernumerary.
Bro. Reilly was, on motion, commended as financial agent for the Red Cloud church, with permission to travel and take collections.
On motion the plan for publishing the minutes which has been enforced during the past two years was continued or adopted for next year.
The report concerning the apportionment of the expenses of the Delegates to the next General Conference was presented and adopted. (See report.)
It was moved that the Bishop nominate the Triers of Appeals. Carried.
The Presiding Elders were made a committee to nominate the Standing committees for the next session of the Conference, to have their nominations ready at the opening of the Conference.
The committees for Examining the classes for next year were reported. (See report.)
The Board of Church Extension were nominated and the nominations were confirmed.
The Triers of Appeals were nominated, and the nominations were confirmed.
On motion the assignment of Connectional funds were ordered to be distributed equally to the different districts.
The report of the agent for publishing the minutes last year was submitted.
The second item in the report of the committee on publishing the minutes the coming year was adopted.
The third item of the report was laid upon the table, and the report as amended was adopted.

J. H. Presson offered the following resolutions, which were adopted, to-wit:
Resolved, That we as Conference, return our thanks to Bishop W. L. Harris for the able and courteous manner in which he has presided over our sessions.
Adopted unanimously.
Resolved, That the thanks of this Conference are hereby tendered to the people of Lincoln for the generous and hospitable manner in which they have entertained us during the session, and that we will ever pray the blessing of God to rest upon them.
Resolved, That the thanks of this Conference are hereby tendered to S. H. Henderson for the pleasant manner in which he has received and provided us with homes.
Resolved, That we tender our thanks to the various railroads of the state which have favored us with reduced rates to and from Conference.
These were adopted by a rising vote.
P. C. Johnson offered certain
resolutions relating to the transfer of H. D. Fisher to the Utah
Conference:
Whereas, Rev. H. P. Fisher, D. D., has been transferred from our Conference to Salt Lake City, Utah Conference; and
Whereas, His field is one of greet importance and of difficult management; and
Whereas, He is surrounded by an evil of great magnitude and inveterate in its opposition to our pure Christianity; therefore be it
Resolved, That we deem his appointment to his present charge a most fitting one;
That we have all confidence in Bro. Fisher, as a man and minister, and one fully devoted to his work and the interests of our church;
That we extend to him our hearty sympathy, and shall ever pray the blessings of God upon him and his labors;
That we earnestly ask the members end friends in Salt Lake City to give to Bro. Fisher their earnest sympathy, prayers, and co-operation.
