To be of the greatest benefit to every one, the Record must be a community endeavor from the officers down to the members of the society. Individual responsibility cannot be delegated to any group bearing the title of Editors. You are all Associate Editors. The supervisors of each issue merely form a "clearing house" where your contributions are "dressed" to fit the space available and so arranged that each publication will have a uniform style.
If the Nebraska and Midwest Genealogical Record is to accomplish its original purpose it must be clearly understood that it is a medium to exchange genealogical data, including family history, Bible records, etc., to create an interest in preserving genealogical records of all kinds and to build up the organization it represents.
The Nebraska Genealogical Society has recently established a $50 life membership. It entitles the holder to all the privileges of the

society, including the magazine during his or her lifetime. Mrs. R. J. Kilpatrick of Beatrice, Nebr., is our first life member. She is very much interested in all genealogical work and is a careful and painstaking research worker.
We gratefully acknowledge the receipt of some books and pamphlets, among them are "The Encyclopedia of Pennsylvania Biography" by John W. Jordan, contributed by Miss Frances Dorraine. director of the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society of Wilkesbarre. Penn., "The Gifford Genealogy 1626-1696" contributed by Mrs. F. E., Upton, "Pioneers of Macedon, N. Y., contributed by Mrs. S. B. Pound and "Mary Wilder White 1780-1811" contributed by Mrs. R. J. Kilpatrick, of Beatrice.
Judge Alfred M. Post, judge of the sixth judicial district and former justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, died Sunday morning August 26, 1923, at his home in Columbus, Nebraska. By his death the Nebraska Genealogical Society loses a member that it can ill afford to lose. Judge Post was deeply interested in all civic affairs and in all organizations that were a doing a work worth while and cheerfully gave his support.
He was born in Greenfield, Pa., of an old colonial family, August 10, 1847. He graduated from the University of Ohio in 1868. He taught school in Iowa for a brief period and then entered upon the practice of law at Leon, Iowa, in 1870. In 1874, he was appointed by President Grant as United States Consul at Santiago, Cape de Verde Islands, where he served for two years. Upon his return to America he established his law practice at Columbus, Nebraska. In 1883, he was appointed judge of the district court in the fourth district and held that position until the fall of 1891, when he was elected to the state supreme bench. He was justice of the supreme court until January, 1898 and was then appointed one of the United States district attorneys for Alaska by President McKinley. He resigned after spending one year in Alaska and returned to his practice in Columbus. From 1911 to 1913, he was chairman of the commission appointed to revise and codify the statutes of Nebraska. In January 1921, he was again appointed judge of the sixth district, without solicitation on his part. At the time of his death, Judge Post was dean of the Platte County bar.
