C. F. STEELE.C. F. STEELE, Republican state senator from the twenty-third district, composed of Jefferson and Thayer counties, was born in Rochelle, Ogle county, Illinois, in 1843, coming from there to Nebraska in the year 1870. He was married March 9, 1869, to Anna M. Strickland. They have one boy living. Mr. Steele resides at Fairbury, where he is engaged in the furniture and carpet business. Was sheriff four years and county treasurer four years. Was state senator from his district during the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth sessions of the Nebraska Legislature, and is president pro tem. of this, the twenty-seventh session. |
E. N. ALLEN.E. N. ALLEN, Republican, from the twenty-ninth senatorial district, comprising Red Willow, Furnas, Hitchcock, Dundy, Gosper, Frontier, Chase, and Hayes counties, was born March 10, 1853, in Dane county, Wisconsin, coming from that state to Nebraska in 1873. He married Lizzie Brumfield, April 16, 1868. They have two boys and two girls. Mr. Allen is engaged in the hardware business in Arapahoe, Furnas county, where he has lived for sixteen years. He was superintendent of schools in Furnas county four years, and member of the Nebraska state senate two terms, 1899 and 1901. |
J. H. ARENDS.J. H. ARENDS is the Republican state senator from Otoe county, the third senatorial district, and was born in Hanover, Germany, April 15, 1842, coming from Madison county, Illinois, to this state in 1859. He was married to Georgia M. Mohrman in January, 1867. They have four boys and four girls. Mr. Arends resides in Syracuse, where he is engaged in the mercantile business. He served as a member of the Nebraska state senate during its twenty-sixth session.

HOWARD H. BALDRIDGE.HOWARD H. BALDRIGE, the Republican member of the state senate from Douglas county, is a native of Pennsylvania. He is married and resides in the city of Omaha, where he is engaged in the practice of law with the firm of Bartlett and Baldrige. Mr. Baldrige was assistant U. S. district attorney during the Harrison administration, and was twice elected county attorney of Douglas county, and made an enviable reputation during the four years in that office. His name is prominently mentioned in connection with the next congressional nomination from his district. |
PETER BERLET.PETER BERLET, elected to the state senate from the counties of Nemaha and Johnson, the second senatorial district, is a Republican, was born in France, September 15, 1841, and came to Nebraska from Illinois in 1865. Mr. Berlet is married, has a family of one boy and three girls, and resides at Auburn, Nemaha county. He was a member of the twenty-sixth session of the Nebraska Legislature. |
FRANK CAMPBELL.FRANK CAMPBELL, state senator from the thirteenth district, composed of Holt, Garfield, Wheeler, and Keya Paha counties, is a Democrat, was born in Pittsburg, Pa., in 1849, coming from Wisconsin to this state in 1874. He is in the implement and live stock business at O'Neill, Holt county, is married, and has a family of six boys and one girl. Was county superintendent of Cedar county, postmaster at O'Neill under Grover Cleveland's administration, and agent of the state of Nebraska to go to Mexico and bring back Barrett Scott, defaulting county treasurer of Holt county. |
LORENZO CROUNSE.LORENZO CROUNSE, state senator from the tenth senatorial district, comprising Dodge and Washington counties, was born January 27, 1834, and came to Nebraska from the state of New York. He was married to Mary E. Griffiths in September, 1860. They had four children, three girls and one boy. Mr. Crounse resides at Ft. Calhoun, and is engaged in farming. Was governor of Nebraska from 1893 to 1895, elected to the territorial legislature of Nebraska in 1866, member of the 43d Congress from Nebraska, and a prominent candidate for the United States senatorship in this, the twenty-seventh session of the Nebraska Legislature. |
H. B. CUMMINS, M.D.H. B. CUMMINS, M. D., Populist member of the state senate from the nineteenth district, composed of Butler and Seward counties, was born in Pennsylvania, March 28, 1859, removing to Illinois and to Nebraska in May, 1874. He is married and has two children; lives in Seward, Seward county, and is engaged in the practice of medicine. Mr. Cummins has never before held public office, this, the twenty-seventh session of the Nebraska Legislature, being his first experience. |
