JOSEPH E. MENDENHALL.

      Joseph E. Mendenhall, Representative from the Thirty-fourth District, Jefferson county, is one of the numerous farmers and stockmen who occupy seats in the house during the 28th Session, and is now serving his second term. He was born in Richmond, Indiana, October 15, 1856, and received his education in the schools of his native state. In 1895 he came from Indiana and purchased a farm near Fairbury, where he now resides, and is engaged in stock-raising and farming. Mr. Mendenhall, for four years, was sheriff of Jefferson county, elected on the Republican ticket, and by his party was nominated and elected to his present office in the fall of 1902. He is married and has a family consisting of wife and two sons. His post-office address is Fairbury, Nebraska.

WILLIAM MERADITH.

      William Meradith, Representative from the Thirty-eighth District, York county, is one of the Republican members of the House. He was born in Warren county, Illinois, February 18, 1851. Like the average son of a farmer, his youthful days were spent at work during the summer months, with the opportunity of attending the district schools during the winters, and thus was developed his physical and mental qualities. In April, 1879, he came to Nebraska, and settled on a farm in York county, which is still his home and where he has been successful in agricultural and stock-growing pursuits. For eight years he served as a member of the York County Board of Supervisors. He has never been much of a politician, but always a good American citizen, and it was without his solicitation that he was nominated by his party for the office which he now holds and his nomination was equivalent to an election. Mr. Meradith was married June 9, 1872, to Miss Missouri Walker, and has a family of four children, three sons and one daughter. His post-office address is York, Nebraska.

S. P. MIKESELL.

     Simon P. Mikesell, Representative from the Eighteenth District, Dixon county, was born June 14, 1849, in the State of Pennsylvania. He received a collegiate education in Pennsylvania college, from which he was graduated in 1863. Immediately afterwards he enlisted in the army as a private, and in 1864 was transferred to the War Department, where he was a clerk in the Ordnance office during the years 1864 and 1865. In 1866 he came to Nebraska, and three years later entered the mercantile business at Ponca, which place has since been his home. Representative Mikesell is a Democrat and is serving his first term in the house. He was elected in a district which gave J. J. McCarthy, for Congress, a large majority. Mr. Mikesell was married in May, 1868, to Kate M. Rugh, and has a family consisting of three sons.
