S. S. SPIER.

      Silas S. Spier, Representative from the Thirty-second District, Gage county, was born on a farm near Canaan, Columbia county, New York, in 1846. He received his education in the public schools and at the Academy in his native town. In the spring of 1866 he came to Nebraska, and the following year resided at Omaha, then returned East and spent his time in the eastern states until 1878, when he again turned towards Nebraska, and in the spring of 1878 entered land on the Otoe Reservation, where he was one of the first settlers and where he has since resided, giving his attention to farming. He has only held township offices prior to his election to the 28th Session of the Legislature. Representative Spier was married in 1870 to Lucinda Oakes, of Erie county, New York, and has a family of three children, one son and two daughters. His politics are Republican. His post-office address is Wymore, Nebraska.

GEORGE M. .SPURLOCK.

      George M. Spurlock, Representative from the Eighth District, composed of Cass and Otoe counties, was born at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, April 18, 1866; son of Burwell and Isabella Davis Spurlock, the former, a pioneer in Nebraska in 1856 and the latter, in 1854. Representative Spurlock acquired his early education in the public schools of Plattsmouth after which he spent three years at the University of Nebraska, and then entered De Pauw University at Greencastle, Indiana, from which he was graduated with the degree of LL. B. in 1892. The same year he was admitted to practice in both Indiana and Nebraska. He returned to Plattsmouth where he was associated in practice with Hon. R. B. Windharn. In 1895 he was elected county judge of Cass county and was re-elected in 1897. In 1900 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, representing the First District of Nebraska. In 1901 he was elected to the Legislature to succeed David Brown (deceased) and was re-elected in 1902. Upon retiring from the office of county judge Mr. Spurlock commenced the practice of law in Plattsmouth, which city is his home. Mr. Spurlock was married November 23, 1898, to Miss Maybird Smith, of Maryville, Missouri, and has one son.

SAMUEL STARTZER.

     Samuel Startzer, Representative from the Ninth District, composed of Sarpy county, is one of the Democratic members and is now serving his second term in the House. He was born January 10, 1853, in Johnson county, Iowa. He was educated in the common schools, and early in life learned the butcher's trade. In June, 1873, he settled in Nebraska, locating in Sarpy county, where he has since resided and follows his trade. In 1887 he was elected one of the commissioners of Sarpy county, and for three successive terms filled the office of sheriff. Mr. Startzer was married August 17, 1882, to Caroline Eppenbaugh, and has a family consisting of two sons and one daughter. His home is at Papillion.
