He was married at Orleans, Nebraska, December 24, 1889, to Mary Elizabeth Hull. Mrs. Bean was born of Scotch parentage at Boone, Iowa, August 11, 1865. Five children were born to them: Elva, born October 20, 1890, who married Lester Withers; Floyd, born November 26, 1892, who married Grace Muller; Marcia, born March 31, 1894, who married Delmer Long; Marie, born March 18, 1905, who died August 20, 1907; and John, born March 18, 1905, who is at Overton, operating a drug store. Residence: Elwood.
Robert H. Beatty
Robert H. Beatty, lawyer, was born at Brady, Nebraska, July 29, 1887, son of William and Mary E. (Burke) Beatty. The father was born in Ireland, and the mother in the United States.
In 1909, Mr. Beatty was graduated from Brady High School, and in 1912, received the Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nebraska. There he was a member of the Order of the Coif.
On July 8, 1917, he was married to Ethel A. Brown at Lexington, Nebraska. She was born at Brady, Nebraska. They have two children, Margaret Jane, born September 14, 1919; and Mildred Louise, born June 28, 1921.
From 1912 until 1916, Mr. Beatty practiced law, and then became employed with Wilcox and Halligan, serving until July, 1919. They then formed the firm of Halligan and Beatty, of which firm he is still a member. His professional memberships include, the Nebraska State Bar Association, the Western Nebraska Bar Association, and the American Association. Since 1919, Mr. Beatty, as a member of one of the leading law firms of western Nebraska, has taken part in most of the important litigations in that part of the state. He is now senior member of the firm, J. J. Halligan having died in July, 1930.
Mr. Beatty is a member of the Elks, the Odd Fellows, the Knights of Pythias, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Masons (Shrine). He was in Officer's Heavy Artillery Training Camp at Camp Taylor, Kentucky, during the World War. He enjoys hunting and fishing, while his favorite sport is golf. Residence: North Platte.
Eugene Mark Beaty
Eugene Mark Beaty was born at Blair, Nebraska, May, 30, 1886, son of Eugene S. and Lucretia (Maun) Beaty. His father, who was a contractor, was born at Bedford, Massachusetts, December 10, 1855, of English descent. His death occurred at Blair, January 2, 1921. Lucretia Mann was born of Irish parentage at Brownville, Nebraska, October 20, 1862.
Upon his graduation from Blair High School, in 1903, Eugene Mark Beaty entered the Armour Institute of Technology from which he received his B. S. in 1908. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi. After graduation, Mr. Beaty entered the contracting business, following in the footsteps of his father, and at the present time in secretary-treasurer of the Beaty Contracting Company at Blair.
He was married to
Bess Lee Roberts at Blair, February 20, 1912. Mrs. Beaty was born at Blair,
August 8, 1886. They have one daughter, Betty, born December 13, 1918. The
Beatys are Catholics, and attend St. Francis Borgia Church. Mr. Beaty is a
Republican, a member of the Blair Chamber of Commerce and the Ad-Sell League
at Omaha. He is active in civic and educational work, and is a member of the
Blair Library Board. His club is the Blair Golf Club, and his favorite sport
is fishing. Residence: Blair.
Sam Beber
Sam Beber was born at Minsk, Russia, September 27, 1901, the son of Israel and Rosa (Greenglass) Beber. His father, who was born in Russia, was a grocer who came to America in 1905.
Mr. Beber attended the Kellom, Long, and Webster schools of Omaha. In 1919, he was graduated from Central High School, and in 1923 he received his LL. B. degree at Creighton University where he was graduated with the highest honors awarded, Magna Cum Laude. He was admitted to the bar at Omaha, June 2, 1923, and since that time has been engaged in legal practice. He was first associated with Isidor Ziegler, and in 1924 he formed the firm of Stalmaster & Beber. In 1930, he organized the firm, Fradenburg, Stalmaster & Beber. He has lived in Nebraska for 22 years.
He was united in marriage with Helen Riekes at Omaha, August 2, 1925. Mrs. Beber was born at Kapula, Russia, December 18, 1903. In 1930 he was made president of the Jewish Philanthropies, and in 1931, he became second vice president of the Jewish Community Center and Welfare Federation. He served as secretary of the latter organization from 1928 to 1930. He is a member of the Conservative Synagogue.
Mr. Beber has been a member of B'nai Brith since 1924; in 1930 he was elected second vice president of District Grand Lodge Number 6. He is founder and president of the Supreme Advisory Council of Aleph Zadik Aleph. He is a member of the Nebraskana Society. He is a member of the Youth Commission of the Citizens Committee of One Thousand for Law Enforcement. He is a member of the Omaha Bar Association, the Nebraska State Bar Association, and is a Republican. His favorite sport is golf. His hobby is social work. Residence: Omaha.
Adolf Beck
For the past 61 years Adolf Beck has lived in Nebraska and for 25 years has been president of the Bank of Wilber. He was born in Jones County, Iowa, August 11, 1863, the son of Vaclav and Theresa (Pavlista) Beck. His father, who was a farmer and stockman, was born in Czechoslovakia, February 12, 1826, and died in Gage County, Nebraska, August 11, 1908; he was a soldier in the Austria-Italian War; his German parents came to America in 1855, settled in Iowa, and in 1870 moved to Saline County, Nebraska. His mother was born in Czechoslovakia, May 2, 1830, and died in Saline County, February 1, 1917.
Mr. Beck attended the rural schools of Saline County. He has been a farmer and banker in Saline County for many years. He is now retired from active business, but is still president of the Bank of Wilber. He is interested in horticulture. He is a Democrat. He is a Freethinker.
His marriage to Mary Nemec was solemnized at Wilber, December 24, 1881. Mrs. Beck, who was a prominent clubwoman in her community for many years, was born in Czechoslovakia, March 9, 1867, and died at Wilber, April 5, 1925. Four children were born to them: Theresa Othelia, born September 25, 1887, who remarried Stanley Bartos; Blanche, born January 1, 1889, who married Frank P. Cerveny; Edward A., born November 6, 1891, who married Alice Bartos; and Alice A., born March 17, 1895, who married Leonard Chaloupka. Edward is assistant cashier and vice president of the Bank of Wilber. Residence: Wilber (Photograph on Page 98).
Clarence S. Beck
Clarence S. Beck, lawyer, was born at Kellerton, Iowa, February 4, 1898, son of Sherman T. and Emma E. (Foltz) Beck.
Upon his graduation from high school at Hot Springs, South Dakota, in 1917, Mr. Beck entered the United States Army. He served from July 16, 1917 until June 24, 1919, and was with the American Expeditionary Forces from September 17, 1918, until June 16, 1919. He at
