village treasurer, 1914-15; member of the cemetery board, 1921-2-3; member of the park board, 1922-3-4; member of the town board, 1917-18, 1925-31; and chairman of the town board, 1918, 1928-31. He served as secretary of the Beemer School Board from November 2, 1920, to June 9, 1924; was chairman of the Beemer Community Club, 1930-31; and is a member of the Nebraska Retail Hardware Dealers Association.
Mr. Fried is a member of the Lions Club; the Beemer Red Cross; and the Nebraskana Society. He holds membership in and is past master of Beemer Lodge Number 253 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; a member of Nebraska Lodge Number 1, at Omaha; a Shriner, and member of Tangier Temple, at Omaha. He likes to fish, while his hobby is philately. During the World War he served as a member of the home guards and served on the committee for Red Cross collections.
His marriage to Elizabeth Craddock was solemnized at Omaha, September 4, 1901. Mrs. Fried was born at Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska, August 3, 1872, and died at Beemer, March 20 1919. They have a son, Rolland, born March 7, 1907, who is in charge of electrical and radio work in his father's store. He married Herta Iden on November 23, 1930. Matt Friend
Born at Johnsburgh, Illinois, June 30, 1870, the son of Joseph and Anna (Wagner) Friend, Matt Friend has lived in Nebraska for the past 52 years. His father, who was a building contractor and furniture dealer, was born in Germany, March 7, 1829, and died at Lawrence, Nebraska, August 25, 1893. His mother was born in Germany, April 1, 1828, and died at Lawrence, March 24, 1899.
Mr. Friend was employed on a cattle ranch for five years, was clerk in a bank for four years, and for over 20 years was a contractor and builder. He has been engaged in the hardware and furniture business at Lawrence for the past 20 years.
He married Kathrene Wiebeler at Lawrence, February 6, 1894; she was born at Fort Madison, Iowa, of German parentage. Nine children were born to them, all of whom are living: G. S., born June 7, 1895; I. J., March 7, 1900; May, March 7, 1902; Eileen, May 6, 1904; Frank J., December 17, 1905; Pat J., March 17, 1909; Anna E., November 26, 1907; Virginia, January 4, 1911; and Matt C., July 7, 1917.
Mr. Friend is a member of the Booster Club, is affiliated with Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and holds membership in the Knights of Columbus. He served as secretary of the local school board in 1921 and at this time he is acting as treasurer of that organization. He has been a member of the Modern Woodmen of America since 1896; from 1917 to 1918, he was chairman of the Red Cross at Lawrence. His favorite sport is golfing. Residence: Lawrence.
Charles Augustus Fries
Charles A. Fries, a resident of Nebraska for the past 53 years, was born at Omaha, Nebraska, July 26, 1877, the son of Johanna (Thoelecke) and Gustave A. Fries.
Mr. Fries, who is a merchant, deals in draperies and interior decorations, and established his business at Omaha, May 1, 1916. He is a member of Company L., First membership in the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Regiment of the Thurston Rifles. He holds Community Chest; is past president of the Triangle Club; and is a director of the Executive Association.
He is a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Shriner, and member of the Royal Order of Jesters and Shrine Patrol. He is affiliated with the Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church.
His marriage to Minnie Sorenson was solemnized at Cheyenne, Wyoming, January 27, 1904. Mrs. Fries was born at North Platte, Nebraska. Their two children are: Alan Willis, born March 10, 1905; and Charles Jr., born August 21, 1910. Residence: Omaha.
Albert Henry Friesen
Born at Jansen, Jefferson County, Nebraska, March 22, 1896, Albert Henry Friesen is the son of Henry A. and Maggie (Thiessen) Friesen. His father, who is a native of Germany, came to America about fifty-six years ago, and is a prominent merchant in Nebraska. His mother, who was born at Jansen, April 6, 1884, is the daughter of John P. Thiessen who served as state representative two years.
Mr. Friesen attended public school and shortly thereafter engaged as a clerk and hardware salesman. In 1917 he entered the automobile business for himself, and is now proprietor of the Jansen Auto Company. During the World War he served with the American Expeditionary Forces with the 116th Field Signal Battalion, 42nd Division.
On August 9, 1920, Mr. Friesen was married to Helen Brown at Lincoln. She was born at Henderson, Nebraska, September 4, 1899. Both Mr. and Mrs. Friesen are active in civic and cultural circles. He is a Mason and a member of the Business Men's Club, the Red Cross and The Nebraskana Society; while his hobbies are mechanics and reading. Residence: Jansen.
Frank Lee Frink
Born at Clarence, Iowa, September 25, 1865, Frank Lee Frink is the son of E. P. and Eliza (Root) Frink. His father, who was a carpenter, was born at Buffalo, New York, in 1837, and died at Wisner, Nebraska, in June, 1884; his ancestry was English. His mother, whose ancestry is English, was born at Erie, New York, and died at Clarence, in 1881.
Dr. Frink was graduated from the Clarence High School and received his medical education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky where he was awarded a gold medal for scholastic attainment. He has been prominent as a physician and surgeon at Newman Grove, Nebraska, for the past 50 years and at this time is serving as mayor there.
He is chairman of the Old Settlers Association of Madison County, is chairman of the Red Cross, and holds membership in the state and county medical societies. He is a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Masons. During the World War Dr. Frink served as captain of the Medical Department, and at the same time is a member of the Medical Reserves and the American Legion. His favorite sport is big game hunting.
On October 6, 1887, his marriage to Ida Vestilla Person was solemnized at Fremont. Mrs. Frink, whose ancestry is Pennsylvania German; was born at Allentown, Pennsylvania, April 2, 1871. Three children were born to them: Amy B., born April 19, 1891; Bessie, April 23, 1893, who died in April, 1905; and Hazel A., July 29, 1895. Dr. Frink is a Republican and holds membership in The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Newman Grove.
Frank Samuel Frisbie
Frank Samuel Frisbie, who has been a resident of Nebraska for the past 56 years, was born at Grandview, Iowa, September 30, 1871, the son of Ichobod and Hannah Tompkins (Patmor) Frisbie. His father, who was a pioneer miller in Nebraska, and built the first mill west of Blue Springs, in 1874, (this being the first mill on the Republican River in Nebraska), was born at Southington, Connecticut, December 8, 1835, and died at Red Cloud, Nebraska, August 24, 1918; he was a veteran of

the Civil War, having served as hospital steward in the 35th Iowa Regiment.
Ichobod Culpepper Frisbie, grandfather of Ichobod Frisbie, served in the 6th Brigade of the Farmington Regiment during the Revolution, and the father of Ichobod Frisbie died as a prisoner of war at Marlinico, West Indies, in 1766. Hannah Tompkins (Patmor) Frisbie, was born in Ohio, March 27, 1837, and died at Red Cloud, Nebraska, May 12, 1884.
Mr. Frisbie attended rural school and attended the high school at Red Cloud, Nebraska. He is secretary-treasurer of the Amboy Milling & Elevator Company at Red Cloud, where he has been a farmer and livestock raiser for many years, and is director of the local school board there. He is affiliated with the Methodist Church, in which he is a steward, and holds membership in the Nebraska Historical Society and the Nebraskana Society. He is a director of the Farm Bureau, and secretary-treasurer of the Amboy Telephone Company. He has always been a Republican, and has served as county committeeman.
On June 16, 1895, he was married at Red Cloud, to Lora E. McBride, who was born at Winterset, Iowa, April 27, 1868; Mrs. Frisbie, who was a teacher prior to her marriage, is the daughter of pioneer homesteaders in Nebraska.
They have one daughter, Josephine, born June 26, 1903, who was graduated from the University of Nebraska, in 1927. She was president of the Mortar Board, served as president of Vestals of the Lamp, was chosen as May Queen in 1927, and held membership in the Classical Club and the Young Women's Christian Association, serving as a member of the staff of the latter organization. She received her Masters degree at the university in 1928, and at this time is instructor in English and Latin at Norfolk Junior College. In 1931, she made a European tour. Residence: Red Cloud.
Sylvester William Frisbie
Born at Grand View, Iowa, November 2, 1873, Sylvester William Frisbie is the son of Ichobod and Hannah (Patmor) Frisbie. His father, who was a miller and grain dealer, was born at Southington, Connecticut, December 8, 1835, and died at Red Cloud, Nebraska, August 18, 1918; he was a soldier in the 35th Iowa Regiment during the Civil War.
Mr. Frisbie was a teacher in his younger days, and for many years has been a mill owner and grain dealer at Red Cloud, in the same milling establishment his father organized in 1874. He is president of the Farmers Independent Telephone Company, is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Red Cloud, and holds membership in the Blue Lodge, Royal Arch, and Knights Templar bodies of the Masons.
On February 12, 1903, his marriage to Mary Florence Beal occurred at Red Cloud. Mrs. Frisbie, who was a teacher prior to her marriage, was born at Monroe, Iowa, January 19, 1871. Her father, Isaiah Beal was a captain in the Union Army during the Civil War. They have two children: Howard I., born March 18, 1905; and Patricia Gertrude, born June 27, 1913. Howard will graduate in June from the University of Nebraska Medical School, and will interne in White Grady Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. Patricia is a student at Doane College, Crete, Nebraska. Residence: Red Cloud.
George E. Fritzer
George E. Fritzer, who is a farmer and banker at Edison, Nebraska, is a lifelong resident of this state and for many years has been prominent in business affairs in his community, He was born in Furnas County, Nebraska, July 7, 1885, the son of Peter and Augusta Agnes (Hanks) Fritzer, the former a native of Luxemburg, Germany. His father, who was born June 21, 1844, served as a private in the 104th Ohio Infantry. His mother was born of German parents at Massilon, Ohio, March 19, 1845, and died in Furnas County, September 10, 1911.
Mr. Fritzer is president of the Farmers & Merchants Bank of Edison, and has been a farmer there all his life. He holds membership in the Republican party, and is affiliated with the Nebraskana Society. His favorite sport is baseball.
On June 23, 1925, he was married at Kansas City, Missouri, to Edna Lee Crist, who was born at Marion, Kansas, June 13, 1890. Mrs. Fritzer is of English and Dutch extraction. Residence: Edison.
Andrew Keyser Frolich
Andrew Keyser Frolich was born at Kristianssand, Norway, March 5, 1887. John Keyser Frolich, his father, was born at Oslo, Norway, February 8, 1858, and died at Kristianssand, November 13, 1927. He was an architect. His mother, Beate (Corneliussen) Frolich was born at Kristiaussand, February 23, 1861. She is still living.
Mr. Frolich, who received his elementary education in Norway, was awarded a degree in the mechanical and electrical engineering department at Ilmenau, Germany. He served in the Norwegian regular army. In the early days of his career he was mechanical engineer in the company Rjukan Salper Fabrick, of Rjukan, Norway, 1910-13; he was superintendent of the firm Marriott & Seligman, of Libau, Russia, 1913-18 and was assistant superintendent of the Dalen Portland Cement Company of Brevik, Norway, 1918-24.
In 1924 Mr. Frolich arrived in America and became connected with the Ash Grove Lime and Portland Cement Company as draftsman, and later was their chief draftsman at Chanute, Kansas. In 1927 he was transferred to Louisville, Nebraska, where he was in charge of the designing and building of this company's new cement plant. He has been in this firm as superintendent since operation commenced in 1929.
Mr. Frolich was married at Kristianssand, Norway, March 1, 1919, to Louise Lysholm Selleg. Mrs. Frolich was born at Oslo, Norway, October 26, 1891. They have one child, Louise, Born March 12, 1920. He is a Republican and is a member of the Lutheran Church. Residence: Louisville. (Photograph on Page 436).
David From
David From was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, August 14, 1851, the son of Daniel and Mary (Flasher) From. Daniel From was born in Pennsylvania and died in Iowa, in May, 1880. He was a farmer and a soldier in the Civil War. His brother James From died in 1912, came to Butler County in 1871, and he came two years later. Mary From was born in Pennsylvania, and died in Butler County, Nebraska, June 23, 1884.
David From was united in marriage with Rosanna McKellips at Columbus, Nebraska, October 4, 1879. She was born in Hancock County, Illinois, January 2, 1861, and is a direct descendant of Charles Carrol. To them were born six children, Arthur, born August 31, 1880, who is married to Abbie Stafford; Moro, born September 20, 1881; Marie, born June 10, 1885, who is married to B. L. Story; Guy D., born December 20, 1891, who is married to Ferne Dollison; Wreatha, born September 15, 1893, who is married to Martin Stoddard; and Harold David, born April 7, 1900, who is married to Hazel Kilgore. He was a soldier in the World War.

Guy D. From, son of David and Rosanna (McKellips) From, was born in David City, Butler County, Nebraska, December 20, 1891. David From, a pioneer farmer, now retired, was born in Nuisser County, Pennsylvania,

August 14, 1851. He is of German descent. His wife, Rosanna, was born in Hancock County, Illinois, January 2, 1861, a direct descendant of Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Upon the completion of his elementary education, Guy D. From attended David City High School, from which he was graduated in 1912, and where he tied for second valedictory honors. In 1914, he completed his work at the School of Agriculture of the University of Nebraska.
His marriage to Ferne Adella Dolison was solemnized at Seward on August 6, 1916. Mrs. From was born in David City, September 13, 1895. They have three children, Floy Ferne, born September 29, 1917; Eleanor Rose, born November 20, 1920, and Marilyn Maxine, born December 10, 1924.
A resident of Nebraska since birth, Mr. From has always engaged in farming. He is a Republican, a member of the David City Methodist Church and the Nebraskana Society. He is particularly interested in music. Residence: David City.
Elbert James Frost
A farmer and stockman at Coleridge, Elbert James Frost was born at Merrill, Iowa, April 12, 1883. He is the son of William and Elizabeth (Stinton) Frost, the former a farmer and grain and livestock dealer, born at Wallington, Suffolk, England, February 15, 1845. He died at Merrill, October 13, 1908. His wife, Elizabeth, was born in England, March 22, 1847, daughter of William and Hannah Stinton.
Elbert James Frost attended public school, and came to Nebraska in 1911. Here he has engaged successfully in the operation of farms and as a stockraiser. He was married to Mable Sloan near Sioux City, Iowa, February 20, 1907. Mrs. Frost, who is the daughter of Thomas Oliver and Mary (Benton) Sloan, was born near Sioux City, June 3, 1886.
Mr. Frost is a Republican and takes an active interest in the work of his party. He is a Protestant and a member of the Red Cross. Recently he was awarded life membership in the Nebraskana Society, in appreciation of his efforts toward the advancement of his community and state. Residence: Coleridge.
Hubert Melvin A. Frost
Hubert Melvin A. Frost, lawyer and certified public accountant, was born at Uehling, Nebraska, August 2, 1891. His father, Andrew Frost, was born in Sweden, January 25, 1863, and was brought to America by his parents in 1865. A farmer and rancher, he is a former member of the Nebraska state legislature. He married Mary Victoria Anderson, who was born at Hooper, Nebraska, July 16, 1869, and who died at Uehling, April 21, 1928. She was of Swedish descent.
Mr. Frost was graduated from Fremont High School in 1909, and received his A. B. from the University of Nebraska in 1913. He was awarded an LL. B. from Creighton University in 1923 and an LL. M. from Columbia University in 1924. He was licensed to practice as a certified public accountant at Omaha, on May 1, 1922. His fraternities are Kappa Sigma, Delta Theta Phi and Alpha Chi Sigma.
On May 17, 1930, he was united in marriage with Ruby Vera Bruce at Uehling, Nebraska. Mrs. Frost was born at Mead, Nebraska, February 19, 1904, and is of Swedish descent
Until 1924, Mr. Frost taught school and worked for accounting firms, and at that time opened an office in Omaha he is a member of the firm of Frost and Frost, law and accounting offices, and is a director of the Nelson Ranching Company Ltd. During the World War he was in the Chemical Warfare Service. He is a member of the American Legion, the American Institute of Accountants, the Nebraska State Bar Association and the Omaha-Douglas County Bar Association, and the Co-operative Club. A Scottish Rite Mason, he is a member of the Shrine and an Odd Fellow. His clubs are the Omaha Athletic Club and the University Club. He is fond of golf and reading. Residence: Omaha.
Lincoln Frost
Judge of the district court for the third judicial district of Nebraska intermittently since 1898, for a total period of seventeen years, Lincoln Frost is an outstanding figure in Nebraska. Born at Colesburg, Iowa, January 14, 1861, he has been a resident of Nebraska since 1868. His father, Lyman Frost, was born in New Hampshire, January 10, 1821, and when a young man came to Iowa, and later to Nebraska, operating saw mills in both states in the manufacture of lumber. He married Laura Augusta Gray, a native of New York, who died at Palo Alto, California, in 1899.
Lincoln Frost attended the Frost School which was in the second school district organized in Lancaster County, and later attended Lincoln High School for a period of seven months. In 1886 he received his A. B. at the University of Nebraska, and then spent a year in post graduate work at Johns Hopkins University. At the state university he was made a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Prior to 1898 he was a member of the law firm of Sawyer, Snell and Frost; in December of that year he was made judge of the third judicial district and by subsequent elections served continuously until January 1912. He was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the assination of Judge Morning for the term March 1924-January 1925, and was later elected for the term beginning January 1929 and is still serving as district judge under this election. From January 1925 until January 1929 he was secretary of the state department of Public Welfare.
Judge Frost was married to Jennie C. Bonnell at Lincoln on November 19, 1890. Mrs. Frost was born at Fort Madison, Iowa, February 14, 1869. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1889 where she was made member of Phi Beta Kappa. Three children were born to this union, two of whom are living: Florence, born January 16, 1892, who married John E. Baird, died April 23, 1916; Harold B., born October 5, 1898, married Jeannette Butcher; and Lincoln, Jr., born January 14, 1907.
For many years Judge Frost has been vice president and a member of the board of directors of the Midwest Life Insurance Company. He has served as president of the Lincoln Social Service Club for ten years--its first president; and is president of the Lancaster County Humane Society, and president and director of the Society for the Friendless. During seven years of the time he has served as district judge he handled the work of the Juvenile Court.
He is a member of the American, Nebraska State and Lancaster County Bar Associations, the Red Cross, the National Probation Association, the National Conference of Social work, the National Child Labor Committee, the American Prison Association and the National Committee on Prisons and Prison Labor.
For the past thirty-five years be has been a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. He is a 32nd degree Mason and a Modern Woodmen and a member of the Y. M. C. A. Judge Frost enjoys golf, and his hobby is social service work. Residence: Lincoln.
Charles W. Fruit
Charles W. Fruit, county judge of Arthur County, was born in Sangamon County, Illinois, August 20, 1880, and has resided in Nebraska for the past 19 years. He is the son of James Thomas and Margurite (McDomial) Fruit. The father was born in Sangamon County in 1855, and died in Smith County, Kansas, November 21,
