On March 7, 1900, he was united in marriage at DeKalb with Della Thompson, daughter of John J. Thompson, a farmer of that place. Mr. and Mrs. Head have a daughter who is now Mrs. Raymond A. Baur. Residence: New York.


Francis Wenger Heagey

Francis Wenger Heagey was born at Bareville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, June 20, 1884. His parents were Henry Frederick Cronice and Sara Elizabeth (Wenger) Heagey. His father, born at Table Rock, Pennsylvania, February 9, 1865, is a physician of Scotch, Irish and French descent. His wife, Sara Elizabeth, was born at Bareville, April 16, 1864, and is of Pennsylvania German descent.

Dr. Heagey was graduated from the Cochranville, Pennsylvania, High School in 1904. He entered Princeton University where he was graduated with an A. B. in 1908. He received his M. D. from Columbia University in 1912. He was valedictorian of his high school class. He played on the champion inter-collegiate association football team at Columbia University, and received the monogram C. A. F.

He was married to Islay VanKleek McDougall, at Ottawa, Canada, December 23, 1916. Mrs. Heagey was born at Stratford, Ontario, Canada, June 20, 1888, and is of Scotch and Dutch descent. There are four children: Mary, born December 21, 1917; Frances, born December 1, 1918; Elinor, born February 10, 1925, and Suzanne, born August 23, 1926.

Dr. Heagey was resident physician Colon Hospital, Panama, 1911, private pavilion, St. Luke's Hospital, New York, 1914-15, assistant professor of anatomy and medicine, Creighton University, 1916-19, associate in the office of Dr. A. D. Dunn 1919-23. Since that time he has been engaged in private practice, and is associate professor of medicine at Creighton University.

Dr. Heagey is the author of the following: Epidemic Encephalitis (with Dr. A. D. Dunn, Oct., 1920); The Cerebellar Manifestations of Epidemic Encephalitis (September 10, 1922) ; Epidemic Encephalitis in Relation to Anterior Poliomyelitis (September 1922) ; Symptoms of Coloaic Disturbances (1924) ; Cervical Adenitis (Nebraska State Medical Journal) ; Relation of Internal Medicine to the General Practice of Medicine (July, 1927) ; and Treatment of Epidemic Encephalitis (1929).

During the World War he was full time medical teacher, and is Captain in the Medical Reserve Corps. He is a Republican and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. His professional organizations include the American Medical Association, The American College of Surgeons, the Nebraska State Medical Association, the National Tuberculosis Association, Nebraska State Tuberculosis Association (president 1930-), the American Public Health Association, and the Omaha-Douglas County Medical Association. He is a member of the Lions Club and of the Chamber of Commerce. He was vice president of the local Lions Club during 1927-28. He is also a member of the American Association for Scientific Research. His clubs are the Professional Men's, the Omaha Club and the Omaha Country Club. His sport is golf and his hobby is books. Residence: Omaha. (Photograph on Page 529).


Edward Joseph Healey

Born at Scranton, Pennsylvania, June 24, 1872, Edward Joseph Healey is the son of Anthony and Mary (Kelly) Healey. His father, born in Bellin, County Mayo, Ireland, December 25, 1829, came to America June 11, 1865, and worked as a coal miner for twelve years.

In 1877 he came to Knox County, Nebraska, locating on a farm seven miles northwest of Creighton, where he died March 1, 1904. His wife, born at Crossmolina, County Mayo, June 30, 1831, died at Creighton, November 25, 1925.

Edward Joseph Healey attended country school to the eighth grade, and was graduated from high school in 1890. A farmer until he reached the age of twenty-five, he then entered the hardware business in which he has spent most of his life. A Democrat, he is at the present time a member of the city council.

On June 21, 1905, Mr. Healey was married to Catherine Edith Doyle at Creighton. Mrs. Healey, who is of Irish descent, was born at Clarence, Iowa, September 28, 1879. They have two children, Helen, born October 22, 1902; and Francis, born October 23, 1906; who was graduated from high school in 1923, and who entered Creighton University in 1927, graduating in pharmacy in 1930.

Mr. Healey is a member of St. Ludgers Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is a member of the Red Cross, the Elks, the Nebraskana Society and the Nebraska Hardware Dealers Association, as well as the Creighton Golf Club. His hobby is beautifying his home and its surroundings. Residence: Creighton.


George Arthur Heath

George Arthur Heath, physician and surgeon, was born at Athens, Ohio, February 10, 1873, son of James Herbert and Isabella (Tope) Heath. His father, a farmer, was born at Richmondale, Ohio, December 24, 1845, and died at Geneva, Nebraska, January 14, 1910. His mother was born at Jackson, Ohio, November 15, 1844, and died at Geneva, January 11, 1911.

Dr. Heath attended public and high school at Geneva, and received the degree of Doctor of Medicine from Illinois Medical College at Chicago, in 1897. He has been in practice in Nebraska since 1907.

His marriage to Addie Belle Wagoner was solemnized at Mason City, Illinois, on September 1, 1898. There are two children, Bernice, born July 1, 1899, who married Ray Otten; and James Barton, born December 11, 1901.

Dr. Heath is a Republican. His professional and civic organizations include the American, Nebraska State and Jefferson County Medical Associations, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club (charter member, former president), the Elks, Masons, Ancient Order of United Workmen, and the Modern Woodmen of America. Residence: Fairbury.


William Parkhill Heath

William Parkhill Heath, salesman and rancher, was born at Detroit, Michigan, March 15, 1876, son of Oscar Theodore and Hanna (Mahana) Heath.

The father was born in Staten Island, New York, October 26, 1835, and died at Lincoln, March 10, 1918. He was a contractor and builder, whose ancestors served in the Revolutionary War. Hanna, his wife, was born at Rochester, New York, December 25, 1847, and died at Lincoln, June 15, 1915. Her father was a shoe manufacturer, of Irish descent.

Shortly after Mr. Heath's graduation from high school in Creston, he came to Nebraska, and for 24 years was a salesman for the United States Supply Company of Omaha. At the present time he operates a 1440 acre ranch and farm and has other town property. He is a Republican, a member of Grace Episcopal Church, of the Masons, Elks, and Y. M. C. A., as well as the Red Cross. His outdoor sports include baseball and golf, while he also enjoys bridge and dancing.

On June 29, 1903, he was married to Josephine Maud Burns at Chicago. Mrs. Heath was born at Fort Madison, Iowa, April 13, 1878, died at Chadron, February 11, 1930. They have one child, Jerry, born August 18, 1921. Residence: Chadron.

Horace Wheelock Hebbard

For the past 52 years Horace W. Hebbard has been connected with the Nebraska State Journal at Lincoln. Born at Galesburg, Illinois, December 30, 1858, he is the son of Albert and Martha (Bigelow) Hebbard. His father who was a carpenter, was born in Connecticut in 1811, and died at Galesburg, August, 1860. His mother was born in Oswego County, New York, September 30, 1825.

Mr. Hebbard received his education in the public schools of Illinois, and the Aledo Academy at Aledo, Illinois. He was employed by the Aledo Record for six years, and since then has been with the Nebraska State journal of which he is now department manager. He is a Republican.

He was united in marriage with Lotta Hurd, at Charles City, Iowa, November 24, 1886. Mrs. Hebbard, who was a teacher before her marriage, was born at Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of Jabez and Elizabeth Hurd. She died at Lincoln, March 22, 1911. One child was born to this marriage: Ralph, born January 15, 1888, who has been connected with the Bank of Italy (now the Bank of America) at San Diego, California, since 1912; he served overseas for 18 months during the World War. Mr. Hebbard was married to Mrs. Clara Felix, October 2, 1916, at Aledo.

A member of the Buswell Students' Association, he is affiliated with the First Church of Christ, Scientist at Lincoln; and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. Residence: Lincoln.


Frank Andrew Hebenstreit

Frank A. Hebenstreit was born at Shullsburg, Wisconsin, April 12, 1891, the son of Andrew and Catherine (McCarten) Hebenstreit. His father, of German ancestry, was born at Shullsburg, in 1863; He was a banker and farmer, and served as chairman of the county board for many years. His mother, who was of Irish and German parentage, was born at Kendall, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, in 1869.

Mr. Hebenstreit was graduated from the Shullsburg High School in 1905, where he won letters in baseball and football, and was captain of the baseball team. He attended the University of Wisconsin, 1911-12, and in 1915 was awarded the degree LL. B. at the Creighton University, College of Law. There he was dean of Delta Theta Phi. Admitted to the bar in Nebraska, May 3, 1915, he has practiced law since that time. A Democrat, he was city councilman of Falls City from 1917 to 1918; and was city attorney of Falls City from 1922 to 1930. He has been a resident of Nebraska for 18 years.

He was united in marriage with Irene Helen O'Neill at Omaha, Nebraska, February 1, 1917. Mrs. Hebenstreit was born of Irish parentage at Peru, Illinois March 29, 1893. Four children were born to their marriage: John, born November 10, 1918; Frank, born November 13, 1921; Joseph, born July 8, 1925; and James, born July 8, 1925.

During the World War Mr. Hebenstreit was on the liberty loan committee, and was a four minute speaker. He is a member of the Red Cross; the Chamber of Commerce; the Falls City Booster Club, of which he is secretary; the Richardson County Bar Association; and the Nebraska Bar Association. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and from 1923 to 1924 was a member of the Rotary Club. He is affiliated with St. Peter's and St. Paul's Church, at Falls City. His hobby is golf, and his ,Social club is the Falls City Country Club. Residence: Falls City.


Marshall Eddmon Hebrew

Marshall Eddmon Hebrew has been a prominent Nebraska photographer for many years. He is the proprietor of the Hebrew Studio at Lexington, where he is active in the social and business affairs of the city. Residence: Lexington. (Photograph in Album).


Cornelius Theodore Heckt

Cornelius Theodore Heckt was born at St. Helena, Nebraska, December 13, 1884, the son of Theodore Frederick Heckt and Catharina (Christensen) Heckt. His father, who was a shoe cobbler in Germany for over 50 years, was born at Plonn, Germany, October 19, 1844, and died at Wynot, Nebraska, April 20, 1912. His mother was born in Denmark, May 20, 1845, and died at Sioux City, Iowa, August 19, 1927.

Mr. Heckt was engaged in the banking business from 1906 to 1929 and since 1929 has been proprietor of the Commercial Hotel at Bloomfield, Nebraska. A Republican, he served as a member of the Nebraska Senate in 1925. He was president of the Board of Education for six years, served as treasurer of the local chapter of the Red Cross at Bloomfield from 1919 to 1929, and is now a member of the Bloomfield Community Club.

He is affiliated with the First Methodist Episcopal Church and holds membership in the following Masonic bodies: Royal Arch; Knights Templar; Scottish Rite; and Mystic Shrine. He attended Citizens Military Training Camp at Camp Steever, Wisconsin, in 1918 and took an active part in all loan drives during the World War.

His marriage to Christene Amelia Hovland occurred at Sioux City, August 20, 1907. Mrs. Heckt was born at Utsire, Norway, April 10, 1880. They have two children: Bernice K., born May 16, 1908: and Eunice M. born October 31, 1911. Bernice K. has been in the banking business for the past three years and Eunice is a senior at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Residence: Bloomfield.


Verne Hedge

Verne Hedge, executive and banker, and former mayor of Lincoln, was born near Montezuma, Iowa, September 3, 1877. He is the son of Porter and Martha Ellen (Kisor) Hedge. The former born in Coshocton County, Ohio, June 21, 1848, was a lawyer and abstractor. He served with the 51st Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, and was one of the founders of Cotner University. Of English stock, the original name was Hedges; they settled in America in pre-Revolutionary days. Martha Ellen Kisor was born near Union Mills, Iowa, May 13, 1853, and in her younger years was active in the Ladies' Aid and the Missionary Society of the First Christian Church of Lincoln. Her father was of German descent, and her mother of the English Braddock family of the Revolutionary period.

Mr. Hedge received his education in the Lincoln grade and high school and the University of Nebraska, from which he received a B. A. and B. Sc. in C. E. in 1903. He is a member of Kappa Sigma, Sigma Tau, the Vikings, Innocents, Theta Nu Epsilon, and the Pershing Rifles. He is a member of the Engineering Society, president of Kappa Sigma chapter, and district grand master of the same, and supreme executive committeeman thereof. During 1926 he was president of the Alumni Association of the University of Nebraska.

On May 24, 1905 he was married to Grace Bennett of Lincoln, Nebraska. There are three children: John Richard, born January 15, 1909, who graduated from Lincoln High School in 1926 and the University of Nebraska in 1930; Willard Charles who graduated from Lincoln High School in 1928, and who was born October 27, 1911; and who is a senior at the university; and Elizabeth Ann, born August 17, 1917, who attends Irving Junior High School.

For a number of years Mr. Hedge has been active in public affairs in Nebraska. A Republican, he was mayor of Lincoln 1927-29, and since 1929 has been chairman of

the Municipal Airport Board. He has been a trustee of Wyuka Cemetery since 1913.

From 1898 to 1903 he was a civil engineer for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and entered into his present business, that of abstracts of title and title insurance, upon the death of his father in 1903. He is a director of the Lincoln Trust Company, and the State Securities Company and American Savings and Loan Association.

During the World War he drilled Class "A" Men, and was generally active in wartime projects. He is a member of the Nebraska Title Association, and was its president in 1915. He has been vice president several times. In 1925 he was vice president of the American Title Association, of which he is a member. In 1926 he served as president of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. President of the Rotary Club in 1921, he was district governor in 1923. He is a member of the Lincoln Executives Club, the Hiram Club (president 1931), the Elks, and is a 33rd degree Mason. He is a member of the Shrine, and was potentate of Sesostris Temple in 1929. He is a member of the Sons of Veterans, the First Christian Church of Lincoln, and the Young Men's Christian Association. His clubs are the University, Shrine and Lincoln Country. Residence: Lincoln.


Lizzie Neville Hedges

Lizzie Neville Hedges was born at Williamsport, Ohio, August 19, 1861. Her father, Rochester Hedges, was a native of Virginia, born April 13, 1826. He married Katherine Acenith Lowe, a school teacher in Ohio, and together they came west and homesteaded in Otoe County. Rochester Hedges was an early day farmer. His family was of English descent, and slave owners in Virginia. He served as state representative and was always active in the affairs of his community and state. He died at Syracuse, October 12, 1893;

Katherine Lowe Hedges was of French Huguenot descent. She was well educated and an extensive reader. After her husband's death she managed his farm and reared her three children. She died at Syracuse, October 23, 1923.

Brought to Nebraska as an infant by her parents, Lizzie Hedges has been a resident of Otoe County for nearly seventy years. She and her two brothers make their home on the homestead of their father and mother. They are active in community civic affairs. Residence: Syracuse.


John Albert Hedlund

A lifetime resident of Nebraska, John Albert Hedlund was born at Ceresco, September 22, 1872, the son of Christian and Mathilda (Norman) Hedlund. His father, who was a pioneer farmer and homesteader in Nebraska, was born in Halland, Sweden, May 26, 1836, and died at Swedeburg, Nebraska, February 3, 1930; he came to America in 1869. His mother was born at Vestergotland, Sweden. November 1, 1851.

Mr. Hedlund has been a partner in the hardware and plumbing firm of Swanson & Hedlund since 1912, and as the present time owns a one-third interest in the Ceresco Motor Company.

He is a member of the Nebraskana Society, was the organizer and leader of one of the first community bands in Ceresco, and is affiliated with the Evangelical Christian Church at Swedburg. He is a Republican. His recreations include mechanics and hunting.

His marriage to Alice Swanson was solemnized at Ceresco, May 23, 1912. Mrs. Hedlund, who worked at Ceresco, before her marriage, was born at Skane, Sweden, January 13, 1875. They have two children: Norma, born June 6, 1913, who attends Midland College; and Aaron. born May 6, 1916. Residence: Ceresco.


Carl Hehnke

A lifelong resident of Grand Island, Carl Hehnke is a progressive hardware merchant there, and for a number of years has taken an active part in the civic life of the city. He was born at Grand Island, November 30, 1881 the son of Hermann Henry and Marie (Schroeder) Hehnke, the former a hardware dealer who was born in Germany, and died at Grand Island, June 19, 1916. His mother was born in Germany, in 1847, and died at Grand Island, December 22, 1912. Mr. and Mrs. Hehnke settled at Grand Island, in 1880.

Mr. Hehnke received his education in the Grand island public and high schools. He was connected with the Leavitt Sugar Factory for a year after completing his education, and since then has been in the firm Hehnke & Lohmann Hardware Company of which he is secretary. He is serving as councilman of the second ward of Grand Island, at this time, is president of the Retail Merchants Association, and is affiliated with the English Lutheran Church there. He is a Mason.

On April 20, 1910, he was married at Lexington, Nebraska, to Dora Veit. She was born at Grand Island, October 28, 1885. They have three children: Oscar, born in 1911; Wilma, born in 1915; and Carl Lewis, born in 1919. Residence: Grand Island. (Photograph in Album).


Hettie Josephine Hehnke

For nearly 30 years Hettie Josephine Hehnke has been engaged in educational activities at St. Edward, Nebraska, where she has lived for 46 years. She was born at Davenport, Iowa, September 27, 1879, the daughter of John Jacob and Mary Amelia (Vieths) Hehnke. Her father, a farmer, was born at Schlesing, Germany, October 20, 1844, and died at St. Edward, Nebraska, July 23, 1931; his father, Jacob Hehnke, died in 1850, in Germany, and his mother, Margaret Hehnke, died at sea in 1873, just before the ship sailed into New York Harbor.

Mary (Vieths) Hehnke was born in Illinois, September 25, 1852, and died at St. Edward, November 4, 1925. She was always active in helping her neighbors, and was vitally interested in giving her children a thorough education. Her father, Ditmer Vieths, was born at Holstein, Germany, and died at Potter, Nebraska, in 1917. Her mother, Sarah (Burger) Vieths, was born in Pennsylvania, and died at St. Edward, in 1892.

Miss Hehnke received most of her early education in the rural schools of Boone County, where she was graduated in 1895. She passed the teachers' examinations in 1895, and then was a student in the St. Edward High School for three years. In the fall of 1899, she began her study at Peru State Normal College, and in 1910, was graduated from that institution, attending school for 5 period, and then teaching to support herself in her determination to secure an education. In the summer of 1917, she took a course in Palmer Penmanship at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She has taught in the following schools: District 54, rural, three years; District 8, rural, two years; St. Edward, 1905-06; Campbell, Nebraska, 1906-08; Hooper, Nebraska, 1908-09; Superior, Nebraska, 1910-12; District 5, rural, 1912-13; and St. Edward, since 1913. She is now supervisor of the grammar department of the St. Edward public school.

Miss Hehnke is a member of the program committee of the Parent-Teachers' Association, the Nebraskana Society, and the Red Cross. She has held all offices in the Rebecca Lodge, is a charter member of Chapter D. of the P. E. O. at St. Edward, and holds membership in the Nebraska State Teachers' Association. In 1896, she affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of St. Edward, where she has been an exceptionally active member of Christian Endeavor for many years. She has taught

Samuel Aughay Heikes

For the past 38 years Samuel A. Heikes has farmed on the same land in Dakota County, Nebraska. He was born in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, the son of Jacob Robert and Mary Jane (Aughoy) Heikes, and has been a Nebraska resident for 58 years. His father, who was a farmer, also, was born at Mifflin, Pennsylvania, October 5, 1817, and died at Wakefield, Nebraska, May 24, 1898; he was a Civil War soldier. His mother, whose French Huguenot ancestors came to America in 1704, was born at Mifflin, Pennsylvania, July 15, 1840, and died at Wakefield, July 8, 1924.

Mr. Heikes is a member of the Nebraskana Society, is affiliated with the Salem Lutheran Church, and is a 32nd degree Mason, holding membership in the Scottish Rite. During the World War he took an active part in Red Cross drives and other patriotic work.

He married Lena Evelyn Waldvogel, at Dakota City, August 29, 1888. Mrs. Heikes, who was a teacher before her marriage, was born at Union Center, Wisconsin, November 7, 1866; her ancestors were French, Swiss, and German. Their children are: Blanche, born February 11, 1890, who married Charles R. Kate; Vernon, born October 30, 1893, who married Dorothy Ford; Marion, born November 6, 1896, who married Herman Lueder; Samuel, born November 11, 1898; Warren, born August 8, 1904, who married Mildred Ream; Lola, born August 12, 1900, who married M. L. Flack; and Geraldine, born August 10, 1907, who married Clair Sloan. All but one are college graduates. Residence: Dakota City.


John C. Hein

John C. Hein was born at Des Moines, Iowa, March 5, 1874, son of Detlef and Anna (Jess) Hein, and practically all his life has been a resident of Nebraska. His father was born in Germany, May 10, 1852, and was a merchant until his death at Fremont, on April 6, 1912. His wife, Anna, was born in Germany, July 15, 1852, and died at Fremont, October 6, 1930.

Mr. Hein attended public school and Fremont Normal College, and was active in baseball. For some years he was engaged in the mercantile business, and later as a real estate dealer. A Democrat, he has served as a member of the Board of Public Works, and is a director of the Equitable Building and Loan Association. He is a member and director of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Dodge County chapter of the Red Cross. During the World War he was treasurer of the later, and chairman of Liberty Loan drives. He is a Rotarian, Elk and Eagle and a member of the Christian Science Church. His favorite sport is golf and his hobby is reading.

On June 21, 1899, he was married to Lydia Marie Larson at Fremont. Mrs. Hein, who is of Swedish descent, was born at Omaha, March 6, 1874. Residence: Fremont.


Ernst Heinrichs

A farmer in Kiowa precinct all his life, Ernst Hemrichs was born there on April 13, 1880. His parents, William and Minnie (Smith) Heinrichs were natives of Germany. The former was a prominent farmer in Thayer County until his death in 1916. Minnie Smith, who was a successful wife and mother, also died in Thayer County

Ernst Heinrichs attended Kiowa precinct public and parochial schools, and in early youth begun his life occupation of farming. He has met with much success and is the owner of extensive interests at the present time.

On April 25, 1901, Mr. Heinrichs was united in marriage to Lydia Harms at Kiowa. Mrs. Heinrichs, whose parents emigrated to America from Germany, was born in Thayer County, March 6, 1881. Seven of their eight children are living: Edna, born July 29, 1902, married Alvin Ehlers, who is now deceased; Hattie, born January 10, 1904, married Doyle Grone; Walter, born October 22, 1909; Harry, born January, 1914, died in infancy; Edwin, born August 1, 1915; Doyle, born December 26, 1920; and Arnold and Donald, twins, born August 1, 1923.

Mr. Heinrichs is a Republican and active in local politics. He is a member of the Lutheran Church and The Nebraskana Society, and his favorite sport is fishing. Residence: Kiowa.


Norman John Heinzelman

Norman J. Heinzelman was born January 1, 1892, at Verdon, Nebraska. The son of John August and Sena (Jorn) Heinzelman, his father, a flour miller, was born of German parents at Verdon, February 20, 1870, and died at Falls City, January 24, 1924. His mother was born at Corning, Missouri, December 23, 1871. Her ancestry is German.

Mr. Heinzelman received his education in the public schools of Verdon. A resident of Nebraska for 38 years, he is a member of the city council at Falls City, and owns and operates the Falls City Auto Supply Company.

He was married to Lucy May Schuetz at Humbolt, Richardson County, Nebraska. Mrs. Heinzelman, who is of Swiss descent, was born at Humbolt, November s, 1897. Their two children are: Donald Bruce, born March 16, 1921; and Robert Jean, born February 11, 1923. Both sons attend the grade school.

He served during the World War as a corporal, and was in charge of motor supply train No. 429. In 1928 he was commander of the Falls City Post No. 102 of the American Legion, and in 1930 was county commander of this organization. He is a member of the Board of directors of the Red Cross; is president of the Chamber of Commerce; and chairman of the board of directors of the Falls City Community Chest. He is an Elk and a member of the Rotary Club, and the Methodist Church at Falls City. His social club is the Falls City Country Club. Residence: Falls City.


Albert Anthony Held

Albert A. Held, son of Frank and Mary Christina Held, was born at Geneva, Nebraska, November 6, 1891. His parents were natives of Germany, the former a tailor, who came to America at the outbreak of the French and Indian War. Frank Held died at Geneva, December 15, 1917; his wife is still living.

Mr. Held attended the Geneva public schools and was graduated from high school there in 1912. After leaving school he entered the banking business and for four years was teller and assistant cashier of the Geneva State Bank. Thereafter for two years he served as cashier of the Trumbull State Bank at Trumbull. During the World War he held the rank of sergeant in the 18th Company, 164th Depot Brigade at Camp Funston.

Upon his return to civilian life he became cashier of the Farmers State Bank of Ayr, Nebraska, where he served six years, leaving to enter the state banking department where he remained four years. For the last two years he has been assistant vice president of the National Bank of Commerce at Lincoln.

Mr. Held was married to Minnie Grace Pratt, at Omaha, June 19, 1918. Mrs. Held was born at Albion, Nebraska, May 8, 1890. There are two children, Sidney N., born May 13, 1920, and Carolyn M., born November 1, 1922.
