John Henry Morehead
In public life since 1895, John H. Morehead is an outstanding figure in politics, nationally, and more particularly in Nebraska. He was born at Columbia, Iowa, December 3, 1861, and has been a resident of Nebraska since 1884. He is the son of Andrew and Frances Amelia (Cooper) Morehead, his father, a farmer and justice of the peace, was born in Steubensville, Ohio, in 1819; he died at Columbia in December, 1887. On the paternal side, John H. Morehead is Scotch, the family having settled in America in 1633. Frances Amelia Morehead was born at Kean, Ohio, April 30, 1829, of a German father and an English mother. She died at Des Moines, Iowa, September, 1922.
Educated in the public schools of Iowa, he attended business college and then entered the merchantile field. His marriage to Minnie Weisenreder was solemnized at St. Deroin, Nebraska, February 17, 1886. Mrs. Morehead was born at Aspenwall, Nebraska, December 31, 1869, and is of German descent. Their children are: Dorothy Lee, who was born August 15, 1887, and who died March 1, 1920; and Edwin John, born November 4, 1895.
A Democrat, Mr. Morehead was elected treasurer of Richardson County in 1895, and was re-elected upon the expiration of his term. He served as mayor of Falls City in 1897. Elected to the Nebraska state senate in 1910, he was president pro-tem of that body. In 1912 he became governor, and his campaign for re-election was successful in 1914. He was unsuccessful candidate for the United States senate in 1918 and was defeated for governor in 1920. Elected to the United States house of representatives in 1922, he was re-elected 1924-26-28-30.
A farmer, stockraiser and banker; he is at the present time president of the Nebraska State Bank. His hobbies are farming, fishing and hunting.
During the war he served as a member of the Nebraska State Council of Defense, Red Cross chairman and chairman of one Liberty Loan drive. His son was a volunteer, enlisted as private and promoted to second lieutenant, serving two years, about 8 months of which was overseas.
Congressman Morehead's fraternal affiliations include the Masons, Odd Fellows and Elks. He is an honorary member of the Woodmen of the World. His social clubs are the University Club and the Falls City Country Club. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church. His home is at Falls City.
Edwin Morgan
Edwin Morgan, son of Peter and Martha (Hunt) Morgan, was born in Dakota County, Nebraska, November 3, 1861, and has been a resident of the state for sixty-nine years. His father, who was born at Monmouthshire, England, January 10, 1835, came to America in June, 1854, and was a pioneer farmer in Nebraska. He died in Dakota County on December 24, 1912. Martha, his wife, who was born in Edwards County, Illinois, September 30, 1825, died in Dakota County, December 6, 1900. Her family had been in America for several generations.
Edwin Morgan attended the district school and thereafter engaged in farming. He is independent in politics, and has held various local offices, among them county commissioner 6 years, 1906-11, and director of school district No. 3 for twenty-four years.
On December 6, 1894, he was united in marriage to Mary Emily Morgan at Sioux City, Iowa. She was a native of Monmouth, England, born July 11, 1869. There are four children, Vern, born May 23, 1896; Belle, born June 16, 1900, who married Joseph O. Culbertson; William P., born August 27, 1902; and Edwin T., born August 14, 1905, who married Florence Sweet of Clarks, Nebraska.
An outstanding citizen, Mr. Morgan has always been active in the affairs of his community, and has worked continuously for the advancement of civic and educational projects. Residence: South Sioux City.
Joseph W. Morgan
Born at Washington, Indiana, April 15, 1890, Joseph W. Morgan has been a resident of Lexington, Nebraska, for the past 36 years. He is the son of Valentine Edgar and Mary Ann (Miles) Morgan, the former a retired farmer who was born at Fredericksburg, Indiana, December 8, 1849, and who came to Lexington in 1896. Mary Ann Miles was born at Washington, Indiana, October 24, 1865, and died at Lexington on July 16, 1910.
Joseph W. Morgan attended rural schools and on June 24, 1915, was married to Stella Amanda Shaw at Kearney. Mrs. Morgan, who is of German and Scotch-Irish descent, was born at Lexington, May 23, 1892. They have three children, Roland, born January 27, 1917; Merle, born June 2, 1921; and Barbara, born March 3, 1927. Mrs. Morgan is an officer of the Lexington Woman's Club and a member of the Lexington board of education, now serving her second term. She is very active in church work.
Mr. Morgan lived on a farm until eighteen years of age, was in the automobile business 22 years, and since leaving the automobile business has been operating the Morgan Oil Company of which he is sole owner. For the past six years he has been manager of the Lexington Co-operative Oil Company, which is the largest co-operative oil company in Nebraska. He is also a director and appraiser of the Lexington Finance Company. He is a Democrat.
For five years Mr. Morgan was a director of the Chamber of Commerce, and in 1929 served as its president. He has been a director of the Kiwanis Club two years, 1929 and 1932, and a chairman of the Boy Scout committee two years, 1931, 1932. At the present time he is a member of the local relief committee of the Red Cross, and a director of the Dawson County Fair Association. A Catholic, he is a member of St. Ann's Church. His club is the Lexington Country Club. He is fond of fishing and hunting, golf and auto racing, while his hobby is mechanics. Recently he was made a life member of the Nebraskana Society. Paul Clellan Morgan
Paul Clellan Morgan, real estate operator. and insurance executive, was born at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, May 3, 1889, son of Frank John and Gertrude Ellen (Swift) Morgan.
The father, born at Osceola, Iowa, February 27, 1863, died at Plattsmouth on October 7, 1904. He was in the clothing business, prominent in Democratic politics and was for many years grand receiver of the Ancient Order of United Woodmen in Nebraska. His father was Miles W. Morgan.
Gertrude Ellen Swift, wife of Frank John Morgan, was born in Markesan, Wisconsin, May 21, 1863, daughter of George and Amelia Swift, who came to Plattsmouth from Wisconsin. She died at Plattsmouth, February 8, 1931.
In June, 1903, Mr. Morgan was graduated from Plattsmouth elementary schools, and in June, 1907, was graduated from high school there. He completed two years engineering work at the University of Nebraska and one year of architecture at the University of Illinois. He is a member of Sigma Chi at Nebraska, and in high school was a member of the football and baseball teams.

of the Hay Springs Commercial Company, a corporation organized at that time, the name of which was changed to Horn and Morgan, Incorporated in 1930. The company is engaged in the real estate, insurance and loan business. Since 1920 Horn and Morgan, Incorporated has been the owner of the Star Theatre which it still operates, and has been associated with and is the owner of the one-half interest of the Flay Springs Telephone Exchange. A Democrat, he served as postmaster of Hay Springs from 1915 until 1919.
His marriage to Ethel Florence Ballance was solemnized at Plattsmouth on June 4, 1913. There are two children, Marion, born June 24, 1915; and Jean, born May 22, 1919; both of whom are in school. Mrs. Morgan was born at Pana, Illinois, April 11, 1891, and is the daughter of William Ballance of Plattsmouth.
Mr. Morgan is a Methodist, a member of the Red Cross, the State Young Men's Christian Association and the Hay Springs Golf Club. He is a Mason (Blue Lodge, chapter and council), is secretary of the Hay Springs Lions Club and a member of the Hay Springs and Rural Improvement Club. Recently he was made a member of the Nebraskana Society. He was chairman of Red Cross drives during the World War, and served on the local draft board. His favorite sport is golf. Sylvester E. Morgan
Sylvester E. Morgan, son of William Seth and Ann Eliza (Bryan) Morgan, was born at Sloan, Iowa, February 28, 1877, and has resided in Thurston County since 1896. His father was born at Bloomington, Indiana, October 27, 1837, and engaged in farming for some years prior to his death at West Point, Nebraska, in 1924. His mother was a native of Ohio, born June 7, 1846, who died at Miles City, Montana, July 18, 1928. The father was of English and Dutch and the mother of Irish and Pennsylvania Dutch descent.
Mr. Morgan attended the public schools of Sloan and Lake Port, and was graduated from the 8th grade at Sloan in 1894. He was married to Clara Margreta Schlueter at Fremont, on December 28, 1910. Mrs. Morgan was born at Linden, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, August 3, 1876, and came with her father, a farmer, to America, in 1883. They have one daughter, Gladys Vesta, born April 28, 1912. She has graduated from Winnebago High School is now attending college.
Mr. Morgan is an extensive farmer and landowner, and an outstanding citizen of his community. Since 1917 he has been a member of the Red Cross. He is active in the betterment of agricultural conditions, and has been a member of the Farm Bureau since 1912. Since 1911 he has been treasurer of the local school board. He is also a member of The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Winnebago.
William Brooke Morison
Born at Salem, Nebraska, November 22, 1875, William Brooke Morison is the son of Joseph H. and Emma F. (Roads) Morison, the father is a banker.
Mr. Morison attended public and high school, and the Kansas University. He is married to Maude U. Hopkins, their marriage having taken place at Centralia, Kansas. They have one son, Joseph M., born June 11, 1907.
Mr. Morison has been a resident of Nebraska for 22 years. He has been in the lumber business for some time, and is now the president of the Morison Lumber Company, Incorporated, of Crawford. He is a Mason, and a member of Sigma Na. Residence: Crawford.
Richard Daniel Moritz
A resident of Nebraska for fifty years, Richard Daniel Moritz was born at Emden, Germany, May 10, 1872, son of Karl Robert and Martha Marie (Stahlhut) Moritz. His father, a native of Naumburg, Germany, died at Prosser Nebraska, in March, 1910. His mother, who was born at Erfurt, Germany, died at Prosser, in February, 1911.
Professor Moritz was educated in country school and Hastings public school, and was graduated from Nebraska State Normal School in 1893. He attended Hastings College in 1899, and received the degrees B. Sc. and B. Ed. 1899-1900. Thereafter he took post graduate work at Columbia University. He was active in tennis, football and track and is a member of Phi Delta Kappa.
From 1897-1901, he was county superintendent of the Adams County Schools, and from 1914-16, was state inspector of secondary education. At the present time he is director of the Bureau of Educational Service and Summer Session at the University.. He is the author of numerous articles of an educational nature, and is a member of the Nebraska State Teachers Association, the National Educational Association, the American Association of Summer School Directors, the Parent-Teachers Association and the Library Board.
He was married to Genevieve Richards at Roseland, Nebraska, on December 22, 1897. Mrs. Moritz was born at Dodgeville, Wisconsin, October 3, 1874, of English descent. There are three children, Alan Richards, born December 25, 1899. He maried (sic) Velma Boardman, and is pathologist at Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. John Richards, born May 31, 1904, is assistant resident surgeon at Lakeside; and Amelia Genevieve, born September 12, 1909, is married to Lowell F. Beer.
Mr. Moritz is a Democrat. During the World War he was chairman of the United Charities, member of a committee on war loan drives and a four minute man. He is a director of the Young Men's Christian Association, a Mason and a member of the Open Forum, the Candlelight Club and the University Club. His hobby is chess. Residence: Lincoln. Grace Stewart Morning
Grace Stewart Morning, a resident of Nebraska practically all her life, has been prominent in social and welfare work in Lincoln, for many years. She was born at Seward, Nebraska, February 9, 1878, the daughter of John Elsworth and Amanda Elizabeth (Rhodes) Stewart. Her father, who was a farmer, was a pioneer in York County in 1872; he was born in Clark County, Ohio, April 26, 1828, and died at Seward, October 26, 1911. His great great grandfather came to this county from Glasgow, Scotland, in 1723, and his great grandfather served in the Revolution. Her mother was born at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, March 22, 1836, and died at Lincoln, January 14, 1924; she was of German ancestry.
Mrs. Morning was graduated from the Seward High School in 1894, and later was a student at Fremont Normal schools, the Lincoln Schools, and the public schools of Seattle, Washington. She is now chief juvenile officer juvenile court, Lancaster County, Nebraska.
She is a member of the Altrusa Club at Lincoln; the League of Women Voters; and the University Club. She served as treasurer of the Lincoln Woman's Club, 1920-21; was business manager of the Federation Bulletin of the Woman's Club, 1921, 22, 23, 24; and served as secretary of Sorosis, 1923, and president, 1924. She is a Democrat.
She was married to William McClellan Morning, at Golden, Colorado, July 16, 1914. Judge Morning, whose ancestry was Irish, was born in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, June 23, 1863, and died at Lincoln, February 18, 1924. At the time of his death he was serving as district judge. Residence: Lincoln.

Emma (Sanders) Morrell. His father, who was a cabinet maker, was born at Ripley, England, November 23, 1848, and died at Nelson, England, October 20, 1906. His mother was born at Nidd, England, March 31, 1853, and died at Nelson, December 27, 1907.
Mr. Morrell attended the public schools of England, was a student at Wesleyan Methodist Day School, and in 1916 was graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University Academy. He received his Bachelor's degree in 1922. He received the Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree at Boston University School of Theology in 1922. He was valedictorian of the graduating class in 1916 at Nebraska Wesleyan Academy and received various prizes for scholastic attainment.
He has held the following pastorates in Nebraska: Methodist Episcopal Church at Douglas, Nebraska, 1916-19; St. James Methodist Episcopal Church at Manchester, 1919-23; Methodist Episcopal Church at Stratton, 1923-26; and since 1926 First Methodist Episcopal Church of Holdrege.
Mr. Morrell holds membership in the Nebraska Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, acting as a member of various important committees in that body, the Rotary International, and the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. His sports include swimming and fishing, while his hobby is mechanics. During the World War he served as associated legal advisor, a member of the questionnaire board, speaker for the Red Cross, and Liberty loan worker.
His marriage to Sarah Jeanette Ditchfield was solemnized at Trenton, New Jersey, April 17, 1909. Mrs. Morrell, whose parents were natives of England, was born at Leigh, England, January 23, 1888. They have two children: Margaret Emma, born October 29, 1910; and Douglas Willard, born May 15, 1919. Margaret is a student at the Nebraska Wesleyan University. Residence: Holdrege.
Frank Nathan Morrison
A resident of Nebraska for the past 50 years, Frank Nathan Morrison was born at Algona, Iowa, January 26, 1881, the son of Nathan Montgomery and Abbie (Hinds) Morrison. His father, who was a farmer and stockman, was born of Scotch parents at Stillman, Illinois, February 1, 1842, and died at Neligh, Nebraska, April 22, 1930. His mother, who was a teacher prior to her marriage, was born in Maine, May 25, 1842, and died at Neligh, September 8, 1911.
Mr. Morrison was graduated from elementary school in 1895, and since then has been engaged in farming in Antelope County, Nebraska. He is a member of the local advisory board for the Nebraska Children's Home Society, is a director of the local county fair organization, and is affiliated with the Fairview Methodist Church. He served as treasurer of the school board, 1906-15, and was director of that organization from 1916 to 1922. His sports include hunting and racing.
On June 8, 1904, he married Amanda Christina Forsberg at Magnet, Nebraska. Mrs. Morrison, whose father came to this country from Sweden in 1873, was born at Royal, Nebraska, March 10, 1881. Their children are: Anita, born August 4, 1905, who married H. Coutts; Opal, born December 29, 1910, who was a student at the University of Nebraska for two years and is now a teacher; and Dwight, born February 7, 1915, who is a senior in high school. Residence: Clearwater.
Ira Gillispia Morrison
A railroad man since early manhood, Ira G. Morrison was born at Diagonal, Iowa, May 9, 1877, and has been with the Burlington for the past thirty-two years.
He is the son of George Warfield and Nancy Meriam (Williams) Morrison, his father a native of Pennsylvania, born February 10, 1845. George W. Morrison, who was of Scotch ancestry, was a blacksmith and hotel proprietor, and saw three years and eight months service in the Civil War. He died at Diagonal, November 27, 1898. Nancy, his wife, who was born at Zannesville (sic), Ohio, April 6, 1847, died at Diagonal on October 26, 1922. She was a practical nurse.
Mr. Morrison was educated in the public and high school at Diagonal, and was valedictorian of his class of 1896. Beginning as a laborer with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in November, 1899, he was promoted to storekeeper in February, 1905, holding that position at Creston, Iowa, St. Joseph, Missouri, West Burlington, Iowa, and for the past fourteen years at Havelock.
On February 27, 1898, he was married to Mary Arminta McFarland at Diagonal, her birth place. Mrs. Morrison, who was born September 12, 1880, is the daughter of a clergyman. There are four children, Coyle W., born November 22, 1898, who married Katherine Lutz, Ruth, born October 9, 1901, who married Edwin Hook; Paul J., born August 12, 1904, who married Virginia Price; and Donald, born May 7, 1908. Coyle is a clerk with the Burlington. The other children attended the state university where Paul was prominent as a football player.
A member of the Havelock Methodist Episcopal Church, he is also a member of the Lion's Club, the Modern Woodmen of America and is intensely interested in Boy Scout work, serving at the present time as chairman of a troop committee. Mr. Morrison's hobby is reading. Residence: Havelock.
Richard Grant Morrison
Born at Hennepin, Illinois, September 26, 1868, Richard Grant Morrison is the son of Richard Wilson and Elisabeth (Getty) Morrison. His father, who was a farmer, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, November 5, 1834. He came to the United States in 1859, and for the two years following lived in New York State. A little later he moved to Putman County, Illinois, and resided there until 1884, when he came to Nebraska. Railroad land, which he bought in 1882, is still retained by members of his family. He died at Loomis, Nebraska, October 18, 1887. His mother, whose ancestry is Scotch and Irish, was born in County Antrim, May 16, 1838, and died at Loomis, December 14, 1908.
Mr. Morrison has been engaged in farming in Phelps County, Nebraska, for many years. He is president of the Loomis Farmers Co-operative Company, is a member of the local school board, and is independent in politics.
His marriage to Jessie R. Marshall occurred at Holdrege, Nebraska, December 14, 1898. Mrs. Morrison, who was a country school teacher prior to her marriage, was born of Canadian parents at Arnprior, Canada, November 29, 1875. She is a member of the Industrious Club. Their two children are, R. Forrest, born April 17, 1902, who married Violet Schroek, and is a farmer and stockraiser; and Bonnie B., July 8, 1905, who married Edward F. Stepp. Bonne is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, receiving her Bachelor of Home Science degree in home economics in 1929. She is a Red Cross nutritionist, serving in Tylor, Texas, and Havre, Montana, 1930; Lansing, Michigan, and Greeley, Colorado, 1931; and at present is at Weeping Water. Residence: Loomis. Robert McKeown Morrison
One of the leading farmers near Loomis, Nebraska, is Robert McKeown Morrison, who has been a resident of the state for nearly 50 years. He was born at Lexington, Illinois, June 12, 1877, the son of Richard Wilson and Elizabeth (Getty) Morrison. His father whose occupation was farming, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, November 5, 1834, came to America in July, 1859,

and died at Holdrege, Nebraska, October 16, 1887. his mother was born in County Antrim, May 16, 1838, and died at Holdrege, December 14, 1908. She was the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Norris) Getty.
Mr. Morrison was graduated from the Loomis High School in 1896. He is secretary and treasurer of the Co-operative Oil Company of Loomis, a director of the school board, and for the past four years has been leader of the Baby Beef 4 H Club in Phelps County. He has served as secretary-treasurer of the Phelps County Junior Fair Association, since 1929, was superintendent of the Sunday School in the Congregational Church at Loomis from 1903 to 1920, and has served as deacon and trustee in the church.
During the World War Mr. Morrison was registrar for the Union Township, sold bonds and war savings stamps, and solicited for the Red Cross. A Republican, he acted as township treasurer for two terms, was township clerk for a period of ten years and served as township assessor for nine years. Since 1914 he has been a notary public.
He was united in marriage with Ethel Grace McClymont at Loomis, March 6, 1900. Mrs. Morrison, whose ancestry is Scotch, was born at Onedia, Illinois, March 15, 1879. She is the daughter of James and Isabel (McDowell) McClymont. They have six children, all of whom were members of the 4-H Club and all have graduated from high school. They are: Helen Marguerite, born May 23, 1901, who married Simon Spongberg; Robert DeWitt, born May 20, 1903, who married Sybil Carlson; Ethel Miriam, born October 20, 1907; Doris Elizabeth, born September 29, 1910; Frederick Neil, born August 2, 1913; and James Ellis, born June 11, 1916. Miriam is teaching school and Doris is completing a nurse's training at the Methodist Hospital at Omaha. Residence: Loomis.
Walter Fredrick Morrison
Walter Fredrick Morrison, farmer and merchant, was born at Bradshaw, Nebraska, July 26, 1887, the son of Edmund Walter Morrison and Ada Leona (Pope) Morrison. His father was born at Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, September 26, 1869, of German and Scotch parentage. He was a merchant and died at Bayard, Nebraska, in October, 1922. His mother was born at Salem, Iowa, May 31, 1860, and died at Broken Bow, Nebraska, October, 1915.
Mr. Morrison was educated in the public schools and was graduated from the Bradshaw High School in May, 1905. He attended Cotner University at Bethany, Nebraska, and was active in football and baseball while in school.
He was united in marriage to Chloe Dill, who was born at Belvidere, Nebraska, February 6, 1887. To this union three children were born; Mildred Louise, December 10, 1911; Marion Jane, September 10, 1913; and Walter Fredrick, April 4, 1922. Mildred has taught school two years and will attend the Wesleyan University.
Manager of the Farmer's Elevator in 1914, Mr. Morrison was a farmer some years, and was assistant cashier in the bank in 1919-20. He now owns a grocery and meat store which he purchased in 1927.
Mr. Morrison is captain of the Belvidere Home Guards and is a member of the Red Cross. He is affiliated with the Christian Church, and holds membership in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and in the Masons Lodge.
He is associated with the Equity Life Insurance Company. Mr. Morrison was secretary of the school board in 1921-22. A Republican, he is now the city clerk and is interested in football and baseball. Residence: Belvidere.
Andrew Marcus Morrissey
A native of Livonia, New York, Andrew M. Morrissey came to Nebraska thirty-seven years ago. He is the son of Andrew and Catharine (Dowling) Morrissey. Andrew Morrissey, Sr., was a native of Ireland, who came to America when a boy, and became a farmer in New York State. He died at Livonia, in December, 1902. Catharine Morrissey, also a native of Ireland, died at Livonia, in June, 1908.
Andrew M. Morrissey has been a resident of Nebraska, since he was twenty years of age. He was admitted to the bar of Nebraska, in 1896, and has since been active in the practice of law, and ranks among the foremost in the state in his profession. A Democrat, and active in the politics of his party, he was twice elected chief justice of the Supreme Court of Nebraska, and held that office from 1915 to 1927.
At the present time he is a member of the law firm of Mullen and Morrissey at Omaha. He is president of the Home Guardian Life Insurance Company.
During the Spanish-American War he was a private in the U. S. Army. He is a Roman Catholic. His professional organizations include the American Bar Association and the Nebraska State Bar Association. At one time he was a member of the faculty of Northwestern University Law College. His club is the Omaha Athletic. Residence: Omaha.
Bert B. Morrow
Bert E. Morrow, physician and surgeon, was born at Murray, Nebraska, April 26, 1881, son of William and Artie Mesa (Shaw) Morrow. The father, a veteran of the Civil War, was born in Jackson County, Ohio, September 27, 1839, and died at Plattsmouth, August 28, 1901. His wife was born near Craig, Missouri, August 18, 1850 and died at Seward, January 1, 1918.
Dr. Morrow attended high school at Plattsmouth, and received his medical degree from Cotner University. He took post graduate work at the Chicago Polyclinic Hospital. At the present time he is in active practice at Seward. He is a member of the American, Nebraska State and Seward County Medical Associations, the Chamber of Commerce, the Young Men's Christian Association and the Masons. For five years he held the rank of major in the Medical Officers Reserve Corps.
On January 7, 1909, he was married to Edith Naomi Franzen at Funk. She was born there on August 18, 1884. Charles Kennedy Morse
Charles Kennedy Morse, superintendent of the Nebraska School of Agriculture, of the University of Nebraska, at Curtis, was born at Nebraska City, April 2, 1888. He is the son of Samuel Frances Smith Morse and Mary Elizabeth (Kennedy) Morse. The father was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, August 21, 1849, and was superintendent of the Union Stock Yards at Nebraska City. His parents came from England and Scotland to New England early in the 17th century. Mary Elizabeth Kennedy was born at Fort Madison, Iowa, October 22, 1852, and before her marriage was a teacher. Her ancestry is Scotch and Irish, her family having immigrated to Pennsylvania and from there to Tennessee and Kentucky.
Mr. Morse attended the public schools of Nebraska City and graduated from high school in 1907. In 1914 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska and in 1930 was awarded his Masters degree from Columbia University. He is now a matriculant for his Ph. He was married to Jean Elizabeth McGahey, who was born at Lincoln, January 18, 1891. There are two children, Thomas Irwin (Tim), was born June 1, 1921; and Jean Frances, born July 28, 1926. Mr. Morse has always resided in Nebraska. From 1909 until 1920 he was connected with Chautauqua work, and helped to survey the school system of the Panama Canal Zone. He also participated in the survey of the schools of the states of Missouri and Holyoke, Massachusetts. He held the rank of first lieutenant and captain of the United States Infantry during the World War. He was attached to the H. D. Q. Company 852 Infantry 88 Division, and was in active service in France. He is a member of the American Legion, the Congregational Church, the Nebraska State Teachers' Association, the National Educational Association, and the National Department of Superintendents. He is a member also of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, and the Sons of the American Revolution. Since 1922 he has been secretary-treasurer of the Nebraska High School debating league. He is a member of the National Teacher of English Association, the Masons, the Knights Templar and Shrine. Residence: Curtis.
Cyrus Allen Morse
Cyrus Allen Morse was born in Oswego County, New York, March 19, 1864, the son of Guilson Dikeman and Eunice Elizabeth (Frost) Morse. His father, who was a farmer and a minister, was born of English parents in Oswego County, October 24, 1825, and died at Panama, Nebraska, March 6, 1918. His mother, whose ancestry was Scotch and Irish, was born in Oswego County, April 17, 1840, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, December 19, 1923.
Mr. Morse served the following firms as traveling salesman: Nicols & Shepard Thresher Company, four years, 1900-1904; Huber Thresher Company, four years, 1904-08; Advance Rumely & Avery Company, 1909-1920. For the past 10 years he has been in the retail implement business at Oxford, Nebraska, and prior to entering the business world, was a farmer in Lancaster County.
Mr. Morse is a self made man, who started in early life without any help and has grown successful solely through his own efforts. On April 10, 1890, he was united in marriage with Sarah May Hendrichs in Otoe County, Nebraska. Mrs. Morse, whose ancestry was English, was born in Otoe County, August 9, 1878, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, May 19, 1923. Four children were born to this marriage, Roy E., June 10, 1891, who served in the medical department of the 11th Ammunition Train during the World War and died in service on October 2, 1918; Lenna E., February 8, 1893, who married Roy E. Tutty; Myrtle A., December 30, 1894, who married Harry L. Gait; and William J., July 8, 1899, who married Ruby Bloom. Lenna was a stenographer and bookkeeper for the Gooch Milling Company for eight years.
Mr. Morse married Pauline Barbara Bauer, daughter of Phillip and Caroline (Fandry) Bauer, at Oxford, May 12, 1928. Her father, Phillip Bauer, was born in Eden, New York, December 28, 1855, and came to Nebraska in 1876, settling in Thayer County. He was one of the pioneers and successful farmers of Thayer County. Mr. Phillip Bauer was united in marriage to Caroline Fandry on May 20, 1880, in Thayer County. Eleven children were born to them, eight of whom are still living. Mr. Bauer lived in Thayer County until he was 39 years of age. He then removed to Furnas County where he has since resided. Mrs. Philip Bauer died at Oxford, March 23, 1914.
Mrs. Cyrus Allen Morse was a professional nurse from 1912 until 1928. She graduated in Omaha, in 1912, and was superintendent of the David City Hospital in 1914. She spent a great deal of her time in Omaha as a private duty nurse in the various hospitals, and was sent to many vicinities of the state. She organized and established the first hospital in Oxford in 1921. Residence: Oxford. (Photograph in Album).
Edgar Martin Morsman, 3rd
Edgar Martin Morsman, 3rd, son of Edgar Martin Morsman, 2nd, was born at Omaha, May 3, 1905. His father, who was born at Omaha, September 24, 1873, is the son of Edgar Martin Morsman and Frances Ann Sharp. He is a lawyer, and served as a member of the Nebraska state legislature in 1903. He married Mary Eager Buck, who was born at Omaha, December 21, 1874. The Morsman family has been in America since 1660, and the Buck family since 1636.
Upon his graduation from Saunders School in 1917, Edgar Morsman 3rd entered The Hill School at Pottstown, Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated in 1922. He received his A. B. from Princeton University in 1926, and a J. D. from the University of Michigan in 1929, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi.
Since his admission to the bar in 1929, he has been associated with the law firm of Morsman and Maxwell. He is independent in politics, and is a member of the First Presbyterian Church. His clubs are the Omaha Club, the Omaha Country Club and the University Club. Residence: Omaha.
Robert Porter Morsman
Robert Porter Morsman, banker, was born at Omaha, Nebraska, February 28, 1883, son of Edgar Martin and Frances A. (Sharp) Morsman.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1904, where he is a member of Phi Kappa Psi.
A Republican, Mr. Morseman (sic) has taken an active interest in politics. He is president of the United States National Bank and the United States Trust Company. His clubs are the University, the Omaha, the Athletic and the Country Club. Residence: Omaha.
Marion Richard Mortensen
Marion Richard Mortensen, prominent educator at Long Pine, Nebraska, is a lifelong resident of this state. He was born near Wolbach, Nebraska, July 18, 1898, the son of Jorgen and Anne (Ernsten) Mortensen, the former a pioneer farmer in Howard County, Nebraska, who was born in Denmark. His mother was born in Denmark and is still living at Fremont, Nebraska.
Mr. Mortensen attended rural school in Howard County, was graduated from Midland Academy at Atchison, Kansas, in 1917, and in 1921 received the A. B. degree from Midland College at Fremont. He was awarded the A. M. degree in 1931 at the University of Nebraska where he was elected to membership in Phi Delta Kappa. He has held the following professional positions in educational work: graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska, 1921; superintendent of schools at Rising City, Nebraska, 1922-26; superintendent at Dodge, Nebraska, 1926-28; and superintendent at Long Pine, since 1928. His Master's thesis in 1931 was on the subject: Problems of the New School Superintendent in Nebraska.
He is secretary of the Lion's Club at Long Pine, holds membership in the Nebraska State Teachers Association and the National Educational Association, and is affiliated with the First Congregational Church of Long Pine. He is a Royal Arch Mason, holds membership in the Parent Teachers Association, and is a member of the Nebraskana Society. He served in the United States Army during the World War and at this time is
