His marriage to Mary Jane Bowles was solemnized at Clarence, Cedar County, Iowa, June 28, 1892. Mrs. Reed, whose ancestry is English, was born at Toledo, Tama County, Iowa, March 12, 1866, She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a graduate of Cornell College. They have three children; Merrill Vergil, born February 23, 1894, who married Jean Burroughs; Carolyn Elizabeth, born July 25, 1899, who married William McKinley Powell; and Donald Alison, born October 13, 1907, who married Mary Trade Bronson. Merril, who served in the 40th United States Infantry during the World War, attaining the rank of first lieutenant, served for a time as military instructor at Northwestern University, and is now eastern advertising manager for Sales Management in New York City. Carolyn was graduated from the arts and science college of the University of Nebraska, and from the music department at Nebraska Wesleyan. She is now teaching music at the Pasadena Junior College. Donald was graduated from the college of business administration at the University of Nebraska. He is in business at Los Angeles. Residence: Lincoln.
Alice Mae Reed
Alice Mae Reed, clubwoman, was born at Malvern, Iowa, May 7, 1868, daughter of Thomas Marlin and Jane (Whatt) Aistrope.
Her father was born in Wigift, England, December 11, 1928, and settled in White Cloud township, Iowa, in 1864. He was a farmer and stockman and a member of the Silver Creek Ranger Cavalry. His death occurred at Malvern on January 9, 1915. His mother, Marie Mason, and her father, George Aistrope, were born in England.
Jane Whatt was born in Wigift, England, December 3, 1830, and died at Malvern, Iowa, December 3, 1898. She was a mother of eleven children, a devoted house wife and a friend of everyone. She was descended from the Whatt, Wressle, and West families, of England.
Alice Mae Aistrope attended district school in Malvern, Iowa, and afterward attended Baptist Academy and Tabor College. She was graduated in music from Northwestern Normal College at Shenandoah, Iowa in 1888. While in college, she was a member of Deiphian literary society.
On March 10, 1891, she was married to Willis Ellsworth Reed, lawyer and investor, at Malvern, Iowa. (See Nebraskana).
Mrs. Reed is a Democrat. During 1916 to 1918 she was treasurer of the Nebraska Legislative League of Lincoln. For four years she served as president of the Dalith Chapter of the Delphian Society in Madison, and was secretary to the first district Delphians of Nebraska for two years.
She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Madison, the Red Cross, the Madison County Historical Society, and for several years was a member of the Madison Library Board. She is a charter member of the Madison Woman's Club of which she was president 1905-1906; vice-president of third district of Women's Clubs 1906-07, which was organized under her administration. For one year Mrs. Reed was president of the Presbyterian Aid Society, and for two years superintendent of its Sunday school.
Mrs. Reed is a charter member of Plead Chapter No. 99 of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Madison County Golf Club, while her hobby is civic improvements. She has assisted greatly in farm organizations for the benefit of the farmer. During the late war she was an active member of the Red Cross, made heavy contributions to it not only in Madison, but did an immense amount of work as a member of the Red Cross in Lincoln, where Mr. Reed was attorney general. Both she and Mr. Reed were active workers in securing the Chautauqua at Madison when it was necessary to pay money to obtain outside talent, and Mrs. Reed has taken an active part in later work affording a free chautauqua each year for Madison. Charles Seymour Reed
Charles Seymour Reed was born at Arnold, Nebraska, Jane 4, 1896. He is the son of Samuel H. Reed, who was born in Ohio, July 7, 1853, a farmer of Yankee descent. Samuel Reed married Alice Winwood, who was born in England, May 30, 1861, and who died at Arnold, December 10, 1923.
Charles Reed was graduated from Arnold High School in 1913, attended Kearney Normal School and the University of Nebraska, add was awarded his A. B. and LL. B. from the University. He was active in Athletics at Kearney in 1913, and is a member of Phi Delta Phi and Pi Kappa Phi.
Admitted to the Nebraska bar in 1921, the same year he was elected on the Republican ticket to the Nebraska legislature, and also served as assistant attorney general of Nebraska 1921-22 inclusive. He is now a member of the law firm of Reed, Ramaciotti and Robinson.
On August 18, 1928, he was married to Frances C. Wahl at Omaha. Mrs. Reed was born at Omaha, January 18, 1901. During the World War Mr. Reed was a second lieutenant of infantry, and is now a captian in the Infantry Officers Reserve Corps. He is a member of the American Legion, the Red Cross, the Chamber of Commerce and the Omaha Executives Association. He belongs to Calvary Baptist Church, is a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine bodies of the Masons, and is a member of the American, Nebraska State and Omaha-Douglas County Bar Associations. His clubs are the Omaha Athletic and Happy Hollow Country, and his sports are golf and handball. Residence: Omaha.
E. Burkett Reed
Dr. E. Burkett Reed, member of the Lincoln Clinic, was born at Havelock, Nebraska, January 4, 1900, son of Anthony H. and Jane (Hornby) Reed. Anthony Reed was born at Madison, Wisconsin, November 9, 1858, and died at Lincoln, December 18, 1921. He was a farmer of Irish and English descent. His wife, Jane Hornby, was born in England, June 17, 1871, and is still living.
Upon his graduation from District School No. 62, in 1914, Dr. Reed attended Havelock High School, graduating in 1918. In 1923 he received his B. Sc. from the University of Nebraska, and in 1925, his M. D. He took post graduate work at Washington University in 1927; and at Tulane University in 1928. Dr. Burkett was valedictorian of his high school class. A member of Alpha Kappa Kappa, he has served as president, corresponding secretary and treasurer of its building fund.
On November 27, 1923, he was united in marriage to Iva Elaine Jenkins at Lincoln. Mrs. Reed was born at Louisville, Nebraska, January 11, 1900, and died at Lincoln, December 6, 1929. Dr. Burkett's second marriage was to Lora H. Coghill, a registered nurse, who was born at Rogers, Arkansas, January 5, 1904. They were married at Lincoln, May 9, 1930.
Since his admission to practice, Dr. Burkett has been actively engaged, and is associated with The Lincoln Clinic. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Nebraska State Medical Association and the Iowa-Nebraska Pediatric Society. In connection with his practice he has written Hypothyroidism in Children (February, 1929). Dr. Burkett is a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, and a member of George Washington Lodge of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons at Havelock, Rebekah Lodge No. 150, and Odd Fellows Lodge No. 244, at Havelock. Floyd B. Reed
Floyd B. Reed was born at Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska, February 20, 1889, the son of Irving Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Holmes) Reed. His father, who is a carpenter, was born in Ohio, June 30, 1854; his ancestry is French and Scotch. His mother was born of Scotch and English parentage at McGrawville, New York, February 22, 1857.
Mr. Reed attended, the Omaha High School, and for 14 years was connected with the firm of Wright & Wilhelmy Company at Omaha. For 11 years he has been affiliated with the W. M. Dutton & Sons Company at Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska, of which he is now vice president. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, (president 1932), Masons, York Rite and Council, and the Nebraskana Society. He is a member of the Republican Party while his religious affiliiation is with the Presbyterian Church.
On April 12, 1912, he was united in marriage with Alice Agatha Sawyer, at Omaha. Mrs. Reed was born at Fairmont, Nebraska, of English parentage. They have one daughter, Elizabeth Alice, born June 17, 1915. Mr. Reed is interested in kodaking and golfing. He is a member of the Hillside Golf Club. Residence: Hastings.
George Isaac Reed
George I. Reed was born at Montour, Iowa, March 14, 1880, the son of Hiram Isaac and Mary Catherine Rabb Reed. His father, a farmer, was born at Funkstown, Maryland, October 5, 1827, and died at Scotia, Nebraska, May 18, 1896; his ancestors came to this country from England, in 1776. His mother was born in Ohio, January 11, 1839, and died at Scotia, December 6, 1887.
Mr. Reed, who is a leading Nebraska executive, is now manage (sic) of the Reed Ice Cream Factory, and is connected with the Randolph Ice Company. He has lived in this state for 48 years, and is interested in community affairs, holding membership in the following organizations: Lion's Club; Red Cross; Nebraskana Society; Young Men's Christian Association; and the Randolph School Board, where he has served since 1924. He is affiliated with the Methodist Church, and holds membership in the Randolph Country Club. His sport is golfing.
His marriage to Elsa Louise Given was solemnized at Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, June 4, 1913. Mrs. Reed, who is a musician and teacher of piano, was born at Lincoln, August 2, 1890. Their children are: Bruce Vincent, born June 3, 1914; Francis Ann, born March 26, 1916; Willa Marjette, born January 1, 1918; Albert Tindale, born May 11, 1919; and George Dean, born March 21, 1927. Paul A. Reed
Paul A. Reed, physician, was born at Milo, Iowa, January 12, 1899, the son of Hugh Stephen and Elsie (Hammer) Reed. Hugh S. Reed, a successful physician, was born at Pleasantville, Iowa, September 22, 1879. His father, born in Ohio, in 1843 of Irish parentage, served as a soldier in the Civil War for three and one-half years. His mother was born in Iowa, in 1845. Elsie (Hammer) Reed was born at Swan, Iowa, November 17, 1873. Her father was of Irish descent, and was born in Illinois in 1845, and her mother was born in Iowa, in 1849, of German parentage.
Educated in the public schools of Guide Rock, Nebraska, Paul A. Reed was graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1916. He received his B. S. and M. D. degrees from the University of Nebraska in 1924, and is a member of Sigma Chi, national fraternity, and Nu Sigma Nu, national professional fraternity.
Dr. Reed is married to Beulah Adrienne Gunderson, a registered nurse, who was born at Vermillion, South Dakota, January 4, 1904, of Norwegian parentage. Their marriage took place on January 6, 1926, at Palttsmouth, Nebraska. Their two children are, Stephen, born March 28, 1927; and Susan, born July 12, 1929.
During the World War he was a private in Company B, the Students' Army Training Corps, at Lincoln, Nebraska. Since 1925 he has held the rank of first lieutenant in the Medical Reserve Corps. He is a member of the Thayer County and Nebraska State Medical Societies, is an 18th degree Mason, and is a member of the Commercial Club and the Nebraskana Society. Dr. Reed is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Deshler. Residence: Deshler.
Perry A. C. Reed
Perry A. C. Reed, farmer, stockraiser, and political leader of York County, Nebraska, has been a resident of the state for over 55 years, and is well known in the middlewest for his activities in legislative affairs. He was born at Monroe, Wisconsin, January 22, 1871, the son of John Porter and Emma (Deveraux) Reed.
His father, who was also a farmer, was born at Monroe, July 28, 1847, and died at Henderson, Nebraska, April 16, 1910; his parents were natives of New York, and were of English descent. Emma (Deveraux) Reed, mother of Perry Reed, was born at Monroe, Wisconsin in 1851, and died there, April 22, 1872. She was a talented musician. Her father, who was of French descent, was a soldier in the Civil War; her mother's ancestry was English.
Mr. Reed has been a farmer, stockraiser, and breeder of thoroughbred horses for many years, has served as a member of the state board of agriculture since 1917, was a member of the board of managers of the Nebraska State Fair for seven years, and is today president of the Nebraska State Fair Board. As a Republican, he has held these positions: state representative from Hamilton County, 1917; state senator from Hamilton, York, and Polk counties, 1919-1931.
Due to his legislative activities he has accepted only honorary membership in most civic and community organizations. He is a member of the Nebraskana Society, and is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His hobby is baseball. During the late war Mr. Reed served as district chairman of all war activities for men in Hamilton County.
His marriage to Abbie Lulu Westcott, occurred at Farmers Valley, Nebraska, March 11, 1896. Mrs. Reed, who was born at Farmers Valley, November 17, 1876, is vitally interested in gardening and poultry raising. Her mother was of New England descent, while her father was English and Dutch. They have four children: Emma J., born November 9, 1897, who married John Harrison; Mildred M., born September 27, 1900, who married Simon Terry Reed; Marjorie L., born October 28, 1903, who married Arthur A.. C. Dobler; and Jeanette, born May 29 1906. Emma and Mildred were teachers in public schools for a time. Residence: Henderson.
William Elbridge Reed
For the past 40 years William E. Reed has lived in Nebraska and has been prominent in the banking and livestock commission service in Omaha. He was born at Fulton, Whiteside County, Illinois, May 10, 1872, the son of William and Anna Maria (Johnson) Reed. His father, who was a stone and brick mason, was born of English and Scotch parents at Amboy, Onandaga County, New York, May 13, 1828, and died at Fulton, April 17, 1872. His mother, who was born at Fulton, September 23, 1840, and died there, August 1, 1927, was a nurse, milliner and dressmaker. She endeared herself to her community and family by her kindness and consideration. Her ancestry was English.
Mr. Reed attended the grade and high schools in 1888.

pany. He became affiliated with this firm as a stenographer and is now manager of the organization. He is vice president of the Farmers National Bank at Central City, Nebraska, and of the Palmer State Bank at Palmer, Nebraska.
He served as a member of the board of education at Omaha for nine years, acting as president most of that time. During the World War he was captain of the home guard troop and was a member of the executive committee of the Omaha Chapter of the Red Cross. He is a member of the Red Cross, Volunteers of America, the Boy Scouts of America, the Young Men's Christian Association and the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. He is a Mason and a member of the Omaha Rotary Club. He holds membership in the Omaha Club. He is affiliated with the Church of Christ, Scientist at Omaha. His hobbies are sailing and all competitive games. He is a Republican.
On March 25, 1896, he was married to Anna Estelle Smith at Omaha. Mrs. Reed, who is of Holland Dutch descent, was born at Lincoln, July 13, 1872. They have two children: Helen, born April 28, 1900, a former librarian, who married Clifford T. McIntyre; and William Barton, born May 19, 1907, who is connected with the New York Life Insurance Company of New York City. Residence: Omaha.
William Iles Reed
William Iles Reed was born in Menard County, Illinois, August 26, 1863, the son of Andrew Jackson Reed and Sarah Jane (Sheneman) Reed. His father was born in Kentucky and died at Topeka, Kansas. His mother was born at Wooster, Ohio, and died at Paltonburg, Missouri.
Mr. Reed was a farmer in Gage County, Nebraska, near Beatrice until 1920. At this time he is mayor of Beatrice, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the First Baptist Church.
On October 15, 1885, shortly after his arrival in Nebraska, Mr. Reed was married near Wymore to Addie Clayton. Mrs. Reed, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Clayton of Beatrice, was born at Peoria, Illinois, July 30, 1867. They have six children: Ollie; Fred; Ada; Nora; Clarence; and Ethel. Residence: Beatrice.
Willis Ellsworth Reed
Willis Ellsworth Reed, lawyer, was born at Palmyra, Iowa, August 17, 1866, son of William Burton and Margaret Ann (Hamilton) Reed.
The father was born in Crown Point, Indiana, April 25, 1838, and died at Perry, Iowa, August 30, 1926. He was a carpenter and an early pioneer in Iowa. His family came to the United States, settling in Pennsylvania. The grandfather, Thomas Reed, was born in 1812, and his wife, Myria Myrick, was born in the state of Maine in 1814. His father fought in the American Revolution on behalf of the colonists (the father of Thomas Reed). Margaret Ann Hamilton, wife of William Burton Reed, was born near Crown Point, Indiana, July 2, 1843, and died at Des Moines, Iowa, February 4, 1930. She was the daughter of Sanford and Hannah (Linn) Hamilton, both of whose parents fought in the Revolution in America. The paternal grandfather of Hannah Linn served in the British army, deserting to join the American forces. He fought under General Washington.
Willis Ellsworth Reed attended public school at Palmyra, Iowa, and in high school was always active in debating. He was admitted to the bar at Madison, Nebraska, in October, 1888, and has since been, in active practice.
On March 10, 1891, he was married to Alice Mae Aistrope at Malvern, Iowa. Mrs. Reed was born at Malvern, May 7, 1868, of English ancestry (See Nebraskana). An Independent Democrat, Mr. Reed has always been a figure in local political life. He was the first city attorney after Madison became a city, was attorney general of Nebraska two successive terms, January 7, 1915-January 9, 1919. He served as secretary and treasurer of the Attorneys General Association, which was comprised of one attorney general from each state, during his term of office.
He was campaign speaker for William Jennings Bryan for president in 1896, and for the Democratic party in each national campaign since that time, special attention being given to the campaigne of W. V. Allen for the United States senate and for Governors Powers, Holeomb and Poynter, and for Judge J. J. Sullivan for supreme judge, Judge Samuel Maxwell for congress, Gilbert M. Hitchcock, the United States senator. Mr. Reed was himself twice candidate for the nomination for the United States senate but failed to secure the nomination.
He is also the author of the uniform freight and passenger rate, the plan adopted by the United States government when it took over the railways during the war and which is in practice today. In 1912 Mr. Reed spoke in Omaha, Lincoln, and Alliance, his speech being published in the Lumberman of St. Louis and the Omaha World-Herald. In the 1880's Mr. Reed taught school in Guthrie and Audubon counties in Iowa. He taught in Madison County, Nebraska, during 1886, 1887, and 1888, and has since been engaged in the practice of law. He is admitted to all superior courts including the United States Supreme Court (1898).
During the late war he assisted in all local drives and was attorney for the State Council of Defense. He is a member of the American and Madison County District Bar Association, the Red Cross, and the Masons (past master, past worthy patron Order of Eastern Star, associate worthy patron 1932; Tangier Temple Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Omaha (one of its life members). He is a life member of the Nebraskana Society. His hobby is economic reform. His favorite sport is golf. Residence: Madison.
Ernest Leonard Reeker
Ernest Leonard Reeker, county judge of Madison County, was born in Madison County, December 9, 1898, son of Frederick William and Rosa (Lucht) Reeker. The father, a farmer and stockman, was born in Germany, February 25, 1873, and came to America at the age of seven with his parents. He died in Madison County, December 16, 1921. Rosa Lucht was born in Madison County, December 10, 1878, her mother being one of the first white women to settle in Madison County, 1867.
Judge Reeker attended Deer Creek Public School. He entered Midland College in 1912, and thereafter took his pre-legal course in Valparaiso University. He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Indianapolis in May, 1921. He was active in debating and dramatic clubs, and became a member of Sigma Delta Kappa.
Admitted to the bar on June 21, 1921, he has since been in active practice. He is the author of Big Business, which relates to juvenile court, published in 1930 in the September issue of Kiwanis International Magazine. Mr. Reeker is a Republican and has been county judge of Madison County since January 1, 1925. He was re-elected without opposition in the year 1928, and was re-nominated in the primary of 1932.
On November 15, 1921, he was married to Cecilia Geraldine Huenergardt at Pierce. Mrs. Reeker was born at College View, Nebraska, March 8, 1897. They

have one son, Ernest L., Jr., born October 12, 1924.
During the World War Mr. Reeker was in Officers Training Camp at Omaha, and did some dramatic work for the Red Cross. He is affiliated with Trinity Lutheran Church, is a member of the Community Club of Madison, the Lions Club, the Kiwanis Club (vice president 1931), the National Prohibition Association, and the Nebraska District and State Bar Association.
Judge Reeker enjoys hunting, fishing, and landscape gardening, the last mentioned being his real hobby. Residence: Madison.
David D. Rees
David D. Rees, a noted Nebraska educator and editor, was born at New London, Howard County, Indiana, May 4, 1871, the son of Melvina (Seward) and Joseph M. Rees. His father, who was born in Tennessee in 1844 and died at Washington, D. C., 1909, was a clergyman; he served in Company G, 89th Indiana Regiment, in the Civil War. His mother was born in Ohio in 1844 and died at Parkersburg, West Virginia, in 1909.
Mr. Rees was graduated from high school at Kokomo, Indiana; was awarded the A. B. degree at Battle Creek College in Michigan, 1895; and received the A. M. degree at Union College, Lincoln, 1903. He has held the following positions; professor of English, Union College, 1897-1905; professor of English at Mt. Vernon College, Mt. Vernon, Ohio, 1905-10; principal of the Forest Home Academy, Mt. Vernon. Washington, 1910-14; professor of English at Walla Walla College, Walla Walla, Washington, 1915-17; principal of the Campion Academy, Loveland, Colorado, 1917-18; educational secretary of the Central Union Conference at Lincoln, 1919-26; and since 1927 editor of the Christian Record, a national journal for the blind printed in Braille, at Lincoln.
He is the author of How to Punctuate, a Textbook; A Hint to the Wise, a book dealing with the common errors in English; and numerous articles and poems printed in magazines and journals. He has been a resident of Nebraska for 21 years, and has been active in the educational and religious welfare of the state during that time. He is an ordained minister in the Seventh day Adventist Church. He is a member of the Nebraskana Society.
He was married to Anna Miller at Nashville, Tennessee. Mrs. Rees was born at Nashville, Tennessee, in 1873. Their children are: Virginia, who married Professor E. B. Ogden, a member of the Union College faculty; Dee Miller, who married Isabelle Wilson, and who is a practicing physician at Los Angeles, California; Edna, who is teaching in the high school in Bennet, Nebraska; and Collard, who is principal of the high school at Denton, Nebraska. Residence: Lincoln.
Harry A. Rees
Harry A. Rees, automobile dealer and executive, was born at Pilger, Nebraska, May 2, 1894, son of Howell and Alice (Holmes) Rees. Howell Rees, a native of Carmarthern, Wales, born March 16, 1854, came from Cardiff to Pilger in 1879. There he began as a farmer and stockman. He is Nebraska's leading pioneer Shorthorn cattle breeder, and has bred and shown more winners than any other Nebraskan. His wife, Alice was born at Malvern, Iowa, in January, 1865, of Yankee ancestry.
Educated in the public schools, Harry A. Rees was graduated from Pilger High School in 1912 and from that time until 1915 was a student at the University of Nebraska. While there he was active in track.
A rancher for three years at Long Pine, Mr. Rees entered the automobile business in 1919, when he purchased the Chevrolet Garage. He is a partner in the firm of Rees-Wegner Auto Company and president of the Blue Star Oil Products Company.
On October 16, 1916, Mr. Rees was married to Hanna M. Wegner at Lincoln. Mrs. Rees, who was born at Wisner, August 22, 1893, is of German descent. Her grandmother, who is 92 years of age, is still living. There is one son, Dale Willis, born May 16, 1918, who is a freshman in high school. An accomplished pianist, he is also athletic, and is a member of the football, basketball and track teams in school.
Mr. Rees is a Republican. He is a Mason, and an Elk, is a member of Creighton Federated Church, and is serving his third term as a member of the Creighton School Board. His club is the Field Club of Creighton and his favorite sport is golf. Residence: Creighton.
George Henry Reetz
George Henry Reetz, son of Theodore George and Bertha Jane (Long) Reetz, was born at Bloomfield, Nebraska, January 17, 1890. His father was born in Germany, August 4, 1861, and came to America in 1879. He is a farmer near Bloomfield, Nebraska. His wife, Bertha, was born at Marshalltown, Iowa, May 19, 1871. Her father fought in the Civil War, in which he lost his sight. Nevertheless he is accomplished in many ways.
On January 20, 1915, Mr. Reetz was married to Leora M. Aldrich at Potter. She was born in Nebraska, May 25, 1888, the daughter of Admiral Stuart and Ida M. (Noe) Aldrich. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and has been director of the school board for the past 15 years. To them were born three children, two of whom are living. Alvin, born January 13 1916, died May 19, 1919; Gayland, born March 8, 1920; and Bertha May, born October 24, 1923.
Mr. Reetz is a Democrat. He is a member of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, the Woodmen of the World, and the Masons, and for the past 10 years has served and is still serving as moderator on the school board. Residence: Potter.
Frank Hill Reeve
Frank H. Reeve was born at Geneva, Nebraska, November 7, 1902, the son of Charles Bartley and May Rosa (Hill) Reeve. His father, who was born at Jacksonville, Illinois, December 5, 1872, was a dry goods merchant at Geneva, for 32 years, and is now retired; he was county chairman of the 3rd Liberty loan drive during the World War. His mother, who is active in musical circles and woman's club affairs at Geneva, was born at Central City, Nebraska, March 23, 1882.
Mr. Reeve attended the public schools at Geneva, and in 1919 was graduated from the Geneva High School. He was a student at the University of Nebraska, from 1919 to 1922. He was awarded the Junior Chamber of Commerce golf tournament, 1929 and 1930; and was golf champion of the Lincoln Country Club in 1928, 1930.
At this time Mr. Reeve is salesman for the Brown & Bigelow Advertising Company of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was employed by the Lincoln Trust Company for three years and the Nebraska Buick Auto Company for four years. He has lived in Nebraska all his life, and is prominent in civic affairs at Lincoln, holding membership in the following: Community Chest; Junior Chamber of Commerce; the University Club; and the Shrine Country Club. He holds membership in the Nebraskana Society and is a member of the Masons and Shrine. His favorite sport is golfing, and his hobby is reading. Mr. Reeve is a Republican.
On January 3, 1923, he was united in marriage with Carol Martha Cornell, at Lincoln. Mrs. Reeve was born at Lincoln, October 29, 1904, and is active in the social and and civic affairs of her community. Residence: Lincoln.
Alfred Edwin Reeves
Born at Spencer, Iowa, March 18, 1881, Alfred Edwin Reeves, physician and surgeon, is the son of Nelson Grant and Jessie Louise (Rose) Reeves. Nelson Reeves, a farmer, was born in Brown County, Kansas, October 9, 1853. His wife, Jessie, born at Ladoga, Indiana, November 21, 1856, died at Farnam, Nebraska, November 4, 1923.
Alfred Edwin Reeves attended rural schools in Missouri and Iowa; was graduated from high school at Ridgeway. Missouri, and received the degree of doctor of medicine from Ensworth Medical College on April 1, 1904. He played college football three years.
He was united in marriage to Maude Jennie Taylor at Curtis, Nebraska, June 7, 1905. She was born in Richardson County, March 14, 1881. There are two children, Richard E., born October 28, 1912; and Betty Lorraine, born December 12, 1918.
Dr. Reeves has been engaged in the practice of medicine in Nebraska for the past twenty-eight years. He is a member of the Nebraska State and Dawson County Medical Associations, the Farnam Commercial Club, the National Geographic Society (1922) the Nebraska State Historical Society and the Nebraskana Society.
He held the rank of captain in Company H, 5th Regiment of Infantry 1913-14; first lieutenant, Medical Corps, United States Army 1917-18, with service in France, and was promoted to the rank of captain, Medical Corps. He is a member of the American Legion, the Masons and Odd Fellows, and from 1925-28 was a member of the Farnam School Board. His favorite sport is hunting and his hobby is taxidermy. Peter Jensen Refshauge
Peter Jensen Refshauge, banker, was born at Cedar Falls, Iowa, June 14, 1886, son of Christian and Marie (Andreasen) Refshauge.
His father was born in Denmark, August 14, 1841, and was a professor of schools in Denmark, before coming to the United States. Later he was a farmer, whose death occurred at Cedar Falls, Iowa, in February, 1917. His wife, Marie Andreasen, was born in Denmark, May 4, 1850, and died in September, 1925.
Mr. Refshauge attended public schools, and spent two years in the Iowa State Teachers College, and one year at the Lincoln Business College.
From 1907 until 1908, he was assistant cashier of the First National Bank of Marquette, and cashier of the First State Bank of Hordville, Nebraska. Since 1918, he was vice-president of the First Trust Company of Aurora.
On May 10, 1911, he was married to Elfrieda Hansen at Davey. She was born at Dwight, Illinois, March 14, 1887, daughter of a pioneer Lutheran minister. They have one daughter, Adelaide, born July 16, 1912, who was graduated from Aurora High School in 1931, and is attending Iowa State College at Ames.
During the late war Mr. Refshauge was a patriotic speaker and active in other war-time drives. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, the Red Cross, Business Men's Club, the Rotary Club (president 1922), and is a 32nd degree Mason. He enjoys hiking in the woods, on the Platte River. He is a member of the Aurora Country Club. Residence: Aurora.
John Albert Reichenbach
John A. Reichenbach has lived in Nebraska for the past 54 years and has had an interesting and a varied career. He was born at Rowsburg, Ohio, February 18, 1854, the son of Benedict and Marie Emma (Rauvlaub) Reichenbach. His father, who was a tanner and served as lieutenant of artillery in Switzerland, was born at Sannen, Canton Berne, Switzerland, December 20, 1809, and came to America in 1852. He died at Rising City, Nebraska, December 30, 1900. His mother was born at Sannen, September 15, 1810, and died at Rowsburg, July 4, 1882.
Mr. Reichenbach attended the public school at Rowsburg. He has been a tanner, carpenter, farmer, lumber dealer, and banker. Formerly president of the Citizens State Bank at Ainsworth, Nebraska, vice president of the Bank of Petersburg, and cashier of the bank at Rising City, Nebraska, he is now vice president of the Lincoln Trust Company, the Lincoln Joint Stock Land Bank, and the Liberty Life Insurance Company.
He was united in marriage with Mabel Jennie Newcomer at Rising City, January 16, 1890. Mrs. Reichenbach, who was born at Lanark, Carroll County, Illinois, December 25, 1865, is the daughter of Maria (Hatfield) and George J. Follmer. Their daughter, Marie, who was born August 27, 1891, is active in civic and social affairs in Lincoln. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Red Cross; Woman's Club; Young Women's Christian Association; Nebraska Sons and Daughters; League of Women Voters; Rocky Mountain Climbing Club; and Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Mr. Reichenbach is a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, the Red Cross, and Lincoln Kiwanis Club. He holds membership in the Lincoln Country Club. He is a Democrat. Residence: Lincoln.
William Frederick Reichenberg
William Frederick Reichenberg, contractor and builder, was born in Auhagen, Germany, November 10, 1860, and is the son of Heinrieh and Wilhelmina (Stolze) Reichenberg.
His father was born in Auhagen, Germany, and died there in February, 1871. He was a weaver and beekeeper. His wife, Wilhelmina, was born in Cludebek, Germany, and died at Buchholtz, Germany in November, 1878.
Mr. Reichenberg attended public school seven years in Germany and came to Parkerburg, Iowa, October 1, 1893, and 24 years ago came to Nebraska. He is a contractor and builder, and the owner of a 1820 acre ranch. Independent in politics, he has served as county commissioner of Arthur County 1917-1918.
On November 14, 1885, he was married to Wilhelmina Augusta Shwerdtfeger at Hanover, Germany. Mrs. Reichenberg was born at Sifershausen, Germany, June 4, 1862. To Mr. and Mrs. Reichenberg were born nine children, William, on July 16, 1886, who married Hortense Rownd, August 24, 1910; Paul, on August 4, 1888, who married Elma Wemple, August 26, 1912; Carl, on May 16, 1890, who married Etta Kruger, December 25, 1917; Marie on October 25, 1891, who married Charley Engelbrecht, March 27, 1913; Frederick, on July 8, 1893, who married Lucille Dorris, October 10, 1919; August, on March 19, 1895, who married Fannie Hurlburt, June 1, 1920; Henry, on May 27, 1897, who married Esther Hurlhurt, December 8, 1920; George, on September 21, 1900, who married Iva Bryant, May 10, 1923; and John, on November 21, 1902, who married Elizabeth Swett, November 4, 1929.
At the present time Mr. Reichenberg has 32 grandchildren living. Three of his sons served in the World War.
Before coming to the United States, Mr. Reichenberg served three years in the German army. He is a member and deacon in the Arthur Baptist Church, a member of the Red Cross, and the Nebraskana Society. His hobby is cabinet building. Residence: Arthur. (Photograph on Page 995).
