Buhrow in Knox County. Mrs. Ruden attended country school and Yankton College and was a student at the Conservatory of Music at Yankton. She is recorder of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Order of Eastern Star and has been an officer in various organizations. Her father was a corporal in Company K, Regiment of Missouri Artillery, and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

To Mr. and Mrs. Ruden were born five children: Edwin Dewey, born June 5, 1898, was stricken with spinal mengitis in May 1899 and was an invalid until his death on February 11, 1925. Donald, born August 25, 1899, died the same day. John Ralph, born November 22, 1900, was accidentally killed by a feed grinder on February 20, 1905. Walter Louis, born May 14, 1904, married Mildred Stanton. Daniel Charles, born September 24, 1907, is unmarried.

Walter was graduated from the Crofton High School, was valedictorian of his class and taught in the University of California for three years, and in the Sauna, California High School two years. Daniel was graduated from the University of Nebraska as an electrical engineer, and is now working for the Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power Company at Lincoln. Walter was graduated from the University of Nebraska as an agricultural engineer.

Mr. Ruden is a Republican. For twenty years he has served as secretary of the local Masonic lodge. He is a member of Oriental Consistory at Yankton, and a life member of Tangier Temple of the Shrine at Omaha. He is now serving as secretary of the Crofton Community Club. Recently he was elected to life membership in The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Crofton.


Joseph Ruesing

The Right Reverend Joseph Ruesing, priest of the Catholic Church, has been a resident of Nebraska for the past 48 years. He was born at Faderbom, Westfalen, Germany, December 28, 1853, was graduated from the Faderbom Gymnasium in 1873, and was a student at the Catholic University of Muenster. For 30 years prior to 1914 he served as pastor of St. Mary's Church at West Point, and since that date has been director of the St. Joseph's Home and Hospital which he established in 1905. Residence: West Point.


Stephen James Rueve

Stephen J. Rueve, clergyman, philosopher, and educator, was born at St. Louis, Missouri, December 28, 1892. His father John Henry Rueve, who was born at St. Louis, July 11, 1867, was for many years a government clerk in the post office. His ancestors were Germans who came from the Duchy of Oldenburg, in northwestern Germany, settling in America about 1850.

Sophia Josephine (Roos) Rueve, his mother, who was born at St. Louis, February 13, 1868, and died there, July 4 1928, was prominent in club and church work. She was a member of the National Catholic Women's Conference, and the Christian Mothers' Society. She was descended from Dutch and German ancestors who have been in this country for generations.

Father Rueve was graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas Parochial School at St. Louis, 1905, and in 1909 completed the high school course at the St. Louis University High School. He was awarded the A. B. degree at St. Louis University, 1915; A. M., 1917; and M. S., 1922. In 1922 and 1923 he attended the College de Saint-Jean Berchmans, at Louvain, Belgium, and from 1923 to 1926 was a student at Ignatiuskolleg, Valkenberg, Holland.

For a time he was an instructor at Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Missouri; from 1918-22, he taught at St. John's University, Toledo, Ohio; and from 1927-29, he was a teacher at St. Mary's College, Kansas. Since 1929 Father Rueve has held the position of assistant professor of Philosophy at Creighton University.

He is a member of the Mathematical and Philosophical sections of the Jesuit Educational Association; the Society of Jesus, and the Nebraskana Society. His favorite sports are golf, handball, and swimming. His hobby is music. Politically, he is an independent Republican. Residence: Omaha.


Walter Charles Rundin

Walter C. Rundin, who has been a clergyman in Nebraska for the past 20 years, was born at Norwich, Connecticut, July 12, 1885, the son of Aaron and Eliza Sophia (Johnson) Rundin. His father, who was born in Sweden, is retired and is living in Sweden at this time. His mother was born in Sweden, and died at Chicago, Illinois, June 3, 1911.

Mr. Rundin received his elementary education in Chicago, was a student at the Moody Bible Institute, was graduated from Bryant and Stratton College, 1902, and in 1909 was graduated from the Chicago Theological Seminary. He has held the following positions: pastor of Congregational Church at Crawford, Nebraska, 1912-17; pastor Federated Church at Mitchell, Nebraska, 1917-27; and pastor of the Congregational Church at Wahoo, 1927 to this date. He was connected with the Congregational Church at Port Byron, Illinois, 1909-12.

From 1914 to 1917, he served as secretary of the Crawford Chamber of Commerce, at one time was vice president of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, and for one year was president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of the Platte Valley. He is a member of the Lincoln Association of Congregational Churches, is president of the Wahoo Lions Club, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. From 1913 to 1916, he was a member of the school board at Crawford; he is ex-president and present chaplain of the Nebraska State Volunteer Firemen's Association, and is an honorary member of the Iowa, Colorado, and Kansas firemen's associations. During the World War he was chairman of the Four Minute Men, and was active as secretary of the Red Cross at Mitchell. He is well known as an after dinner, commencement and community speaker.

He was married to Mae Bertha McMahon at Brunswick, Antelope County, Nebraska, June 22, 1910. Mrs. Rundin was born at Brunswick, May 1, 1888. They have two children: Bernice Fae, born February 27, 1913; and Walter Charles, born August 11, 1920. Residence: Wahoo.


Clifford Enfred Rundquist

Born at Royal, Nebraska, Clifford Enfred Rundquist is the son of Mathias John and Minnie Christina (Holm) Rundquist. His father, who is a retired farmer, was born at Dalerna, Sweden, April 23, 1852, came to America in 1877, and settled in Nebraska in 1885. His mother, whose parents were pioneer homesteaders in Nebraska, was born at Soderkoping, Sweden, May 3, 1865.

Mr. Rundquist attended the Nebraska Normal College during 1904 and 1905, was a student at Warriners Business College in 1906 and 1907, and taught a rural school for a time. He has been in the general merchandise business for 25 years at Royal, and is today manager of the firm Rundquist & Company. He is chairman of the Red Cross and a member of the State Drouth Relief Committee of Antelope County.

He is president of the Royal School Board, was formerly mayor of his community, and is Past Master of the Masons and Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. For over 25 years he has been a member of the Royal Baseball Club, and still enjoys both baseball and football. His political connection is with the Republican party.

On June 14, 1911, he married Ollie Mae Boyd at Royal. Mrs. Rundquist, whose parents were pioneers of Antelope

County, Nebraska, was born at Royal, October 13, 1888: They have three children: Glenn, born April 4, 1912; Corinne, born November 22, 1914, who received honors in high school; and Gwendolyn, born October 22, 1916. Glenn is a clerk and farmer. Corinne is a student at Wayne State Teachers College, and Gwendolyn is still in high school. Residence: Royal.


Frank Oscar Rundquist

Frank Oscar Rundquist, a lifelong resident of Kearney County, Nebraska, was born in that vicinity, November 18, 1889, the son of Andrew Gustaf and Ulrika Carolina (Adolfson) Rundquist. His father, who was a farmer, was born in Sweden, July 6, 1856. He came to America in 1881, residing in Chicago for six years, then locating in Minden, where he died April 10, 1922.

His mother was born in Sweden, July 1, 1856. She came to America in 1882 and was united in marriage to Andrew Gustaf Rundquist at Chicago.

Mr. Rundquist is president of the Farmers Union Co-operative Association at Minden, is a director of district No. 27 school board, holds membership in the Parent Teachers Association, and is a member of the Farmers Educational & Co-operative Union of Nebraska. He is independent, politically.

His marriage to Emma Elizabeth Driscoll occurred at Minden, March 3, 1920. Mrs. Rundquist, who was born at Keene, Nebraska, September 17, 1888, is the daughter of pioneer settlers in Nebraska. Two children were born to this union: Ardyce, September 11, 1924; and Ardella, July 30, 1927. Residence: Minden.


Fred Bernhardt Runge

A resident of Nebraska for the past forty years, Fred Bernhardt Runge was born at Freetz, Germany, January 29, 1882. His father and mother were born at Freetz, the former on August 13, 1848, and the latter on September 1, 1854. The family came from Germany to America, arriving on May 31, 1891, and came direct to Nuckolls County. Albert Runge, the father, was a prominent farmer until his death at Oak, on February 4, 1927. His wife, Adeline Steve, preceded him in death, on March 24, 1911.

Fred Bernhardt Runge attended public school in Germany, and farmed with his father until he reached maturity. He was married on December 20, 1905, to Mary Jensen at West Point. She was born at West Point, January 6, 1884. To them were born five sons and daughters, Harold, born March 12, 1907; Martin, born October 28, 1908; Edna, born April 5, 1911, married William Paul Hineline; Melvin born September 1, 1912; and Hilda, born November 4, 1916. Residence: Oak.


Robert P. Rusho

Robert P. Rusho, banker, was born at Fort Hartsup, Nebraska, September 1, 1876, son of Joseph and Josephine (Murray) Rusho.

The father, born May, 1859, is now retired and lives in Boulder, Colorado. He is of French descent and has been very successful as a farmer, rancher and business man. The mother, who was also of French descent, died at Boulder, Colorado.

Mr. Rusho attended common school, and afterward completed a commercial course at Western Normal College in Lincoln. He has been engaged in the mercantile business, in stock raising and banking, and is now president of the Bank of Taylor. He is a Republican.

On October 10, 1900, he was married to Elizabeth Anne Vinnedge at Taylor. Mrs. Rusho was born there September 28, 1881. They have two children, Robert Maxwell, born June 15, 1907, who married Mary Grier; and Jacquetta, born January 10, 1912. Robert operates a filling station at Houston, Texas, while Jacquetta is a student at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Residence: Taylor.


Fay Russell

Fay Russell, merchant, was born at Kearney, Nebraska, November 11, 1884, son of Robert and Ann (Flint) Russel. The father, a native of Clinton, Ohio, died at Kearney, April 4, 1919. He homesteaded eight miles east of Kearney, in 1873, and was the first judge of Sherman County. He was later a farmer and merchant, and was street commissioner of Kearney for 20 years.

His wife, Ann Flint, was born in Meppershal, Bedfordshire, England, July 5, 1852, and died at Ogallala, Nebraska, August 23, 1921. She was a charter member and active in the Royal Neighbors of America, and was a direct descendant of John Bunyan.

Mr. Russell was graduated from Kearney High School in 1903, and has since engaged in business in Kearney. At the present time he is a partner in the firm and the manager of the Princess Chocolate Shop. He is a Republican.

His marriage to Louise Ernestina Geisert was solemnized at Ogallala, February 20, 1918. Mrs. Russell was born in Ogallala, October 31, 1893, of German descent. Five children were born to them, three of whom are living, Boyd A., born December 9, 1918; Robert J., born February 1, 1920; Carol Annette, born December 21, 1930; Donald, born February 25, 1925, who died February 25, 1925; and Ronald, born February 6, 1932, who died February 7, 1932.

During the late war Mr. Russell was a first sergeant and first lieutenant of the Keith County Home Guard. He supported all war activities, and for a number of years has been a scout leader and active in boys' work.

His religious affiliation is with St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He has contributed to the state Young Men's Christian Association, is a member of the Red Cross, the Rotary Club (president) and the Ogallala Commercial Club. His favorite sport is hiking while his hobby is gymnastics. Residence: Ogallala.


Harrison Frederick Russell

Harrison F. Russell, leading executive and lawyer of Hastings, has lived in Nebraska all his life. He was born at Kenesaw, Adams County, Nebraska, June 6, 1890, the son of Henry Maroni and Charlotte (Haller) Russell. His father, born at Steubenvilie, Steuben County, Indiana, on August 11, 1848, has been a banker and merchant at Kenesaw, Nebraska, for more than forty years. The Russells came to America from England, in 1810, Harrison F. Russell's grandmother being a member of the Chase family, and a descendent of men who were active in the Revolution. His own mother was born at Bridgmon, Berrien County, Michigan, on December 10, 1856, and was a public school teacher for sixteen years. Her father, who was a Civil War veteran, was born in Germany, while her mother was descended from Revolutionary War soldiers of the Stevens family.

Upon his graduation from Kenesaw High School in 1906, Mr. Russell attended Hastings College, from which, in 1910, he received the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He was valedictorian of his high school class, and was a letterman in college. From 1910-12 he was employed by the Exchange National Bank at Hastings, and thereafter purchased an interest in the Clarke-Buchanan Company, a loan and investment firm. After holding various offices in this organization, he was elected president and trust officer in 1930.

During the recent war Mr. Russell was a sergeant of Infantry, Machine Gun Officers Training School. Active in Red Cross work, he also served as a four minute speaker. He is a charter member of the Hastings American Legion, Post Number 11, the Sons of the American Revolution, and holds a commission in the United States Army Reserves.

Mr. Russell is a director and vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, is president and director of the Rotary Club, is a member of The Nebraskana Society,

and of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings. His hobby is boys' work and his favorite sport is golf.

His marriage to Mary Arthur Collins was solemnized at Hebron, Nebraska, June 4, 1913. Mrs. Russell, who was a talented musician, and an active participant in all musical affairs, was born at Hebron, January 3, 1889. She was descented from Revolutionary ancestors through both sides of her family. Her death occurred at Hastings, on March 31, 1924.

On June 30, 1926, Mr. Russell was married to Esther Rosalind Fuhr, at Pasadena, California. She was born at Maeomb, Illinois, January 18, 1896, and is the mother of one son, Harrison Frederick, Jr., born September 27, 1930. Residence: Hastings.


Ralph Swisher Russell

Ralph Swisher Russell, physician and surgeon, was born at Metlaltoyuca, Old Mexico, March 22, 1900, son of Calvin Parker and Orissa Anna (Swisher) Russell.

The father, born at Glenns Falls, New York, April 18, 1857, is of English descent, a son of the American Revolution through Captain Parker of the battle of Bunker Hill. He is secretary and treasurer of the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company; vice president of the Nebraska Anti-Saloon League; and treasurer of the building fund of the First Plymouth Church at Lincoln. His wife, Orissa, was born at Dayton, Ohio, August 31, 1864, and is very active in Woman's Club work. She is of Swiss German descent, representing the fourth generation in America.

Dr. Russell graduated from Cherry Street School in Lincoln in 1913 and from the Lincoln High School in 1917. FIe entered the University of Nebraska receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1921, his Bachelor of Science degree in 1922, and his medical degree in 1925. He has been in active practice since that date. At the present time Dr. Russell is manager and owner of the Russell Hospital at Sutherland. He served his interneship at the University Hospital in 1925, and took a post-graduate course in surgery in 1926.

His marriage to Ruth Elizabeth Carpenter, daughter of A. W. Carpenter and Myrtle Tasker, was solemnized at Lincoln, July 20, 1926. Mrs. Russell was born at Denver, June 16, 1903, of Scotch-Irish descent, descended from General Bliss. They have one son, Ralph born July 23, 1928.

Dr. Russell is a Republican. He served at Camp Taylor, Kentucky, in the field artillery, during the World War and for the past ten years has been a leader of the Boy Scouts. He was commander of Post No. 208 of the American Legion in 1931, is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the First Methodist Church of Sutherland, the Lincoln County, Nebraska State, and American Medical Associations. He is also a member of the Red Cross, the Sutherland Commercial Club, the Masons, and the Odd Fellows. His favorite sports are hunting and fishing. Residence: Sutherland.


William Garfield Rutledge

William Garfield Rutledge, lawyer and former county judge of Nemaha County, was born near Rockford, Ohio, March 2, 1880. His father, William Mathew Rutledge, born near Rockford, October 1, 1836, was a soldier in the Civil War. He was descended from Edward Rutledge, signer of the Declaration of Independence. He died at Utica, Nebraska, May 9, 1900. His wife, Mary Ellen Eichar, was born near Rockford, September 11, 1845 and died at Brock, Nebraska, July 5, 1931.

Judge Rutledge was graduated from Utica High School in 1899 and from the commercial department of York College in 1901. He attended Lake Forest University, and received his LL. B. from Chicago-Kent College of Law at Chicago. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in October, 1904, and to the Nebraska Bar at Lincoln, in September, 1905.

Judge Rutledge has been a resident of Nebraska for the past fifty years, and during the course of his professional career has won a reputation in his community which is enviable. He is a member of the American and Nebraska State Bar Associations, and of the state Y. M. C. A. During the World War he was chairman of the Loyalty League of Nemaha County. He is a thirty-second degree Mason, and member of the Eastern Star. He is also affiliated with the Odd Fellows. His church is the Avenue Methodist Church of Auburn. He is a golf enthusiast and his hobby is reading. He is a Republican.

He was married to Frances Margaret Peuser-Geyer at Chicago, December 8, 1908. Mrs. Rutledge is a native of Chicago, born October 27, 1885. They have two children, Muriel Frances, born June 2, 1910, now attending the University of Nebraska; and Ruth Margaret, born February 18, 1915, attending Auburn High School. Residence: Auburn.


Calvin Taylor Ryan

One of the distinguished educators of Nebraska is Calvin Taylor Ryan, head of the English department of Kearney State Teachers College. He was born at Bishopville, Maryland, January 1, 1888, the son of David Davidson and Katherine (Timmons) Ryan. His father, whose ancestry was Irish, was a farmer who died at Bishopville, June 25, 1923. His mother, also of Irish descent, died at Bishopville, April 24, 1927.

Mr. Ryan was graduated from the Bishopville High School in 1905, received the Master of Arts degree at Washington College in Maryland in 1914, and was awarded the Master of Education degree at Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1922. He was a student at the University of Virginia during the summer session of 1908, and attended George Washington University from 1915 to 1918. His fraternities were Pi Kappa Delta, Sigma Delta Chi.

He was high school instructor at Cape Charles, Virginia, 1911-12, taught at Bridgeport, West Virginia, 1912-13, was instructor at Washington College at Chestertown, Maryland, 1913-15, and taught at Alexandria, Virginia, 1915-18. Mr. Ryan taught at Iowa Wesleyan College, 1922-28, and since 1928 has been head of the English department of the Kearney State Teachers College. He is the author of articles on education published in various professional and general magazines.

Mr. Ryan is a member of the Red Cross, the Knights Templar, and the First Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as a first class private in the Air Service of the United States Army, Photo Unit, during the World War, and is a member of the American Legion. His favorite recreations are reading and hiking.

On June 23, 1920, he was married to Marie Bristowe at Cambridge, Massachusetts. They have a daughter Zelda Jean, born June 6, 1929. Residence: Kearney.


Leo Edward Ryan

Leo Edward Ryan, who for the past thirteen years has been cashier of the Hazard State Bank, was born at Iowa City, Iowa, September 25, 1894. He is the son of James Edward and Cora Capitola (Hoover) Ryan, both born at Iowa City, the former on September 23, 1871, and the latter on November 5, 1876. James Edward Ryan was a barber, lawyer and police judge, whose death occurred at Douglas, Wyoming, October 10, 1924. His mother comes from the Horton and Hoover families, the history of the Horton's being traced back 600 years.

Mr. Ryan, who attended Holy Family School at Omaha, and the public school at Indianola, Nebraska, was graduated from Indianola High School on June 2, 1912. Thereafter he received two teacher's. certificates and taught two years. In the banking business for many years, he was with the State Bank at Indianola, the State

Bank at Bartley and Cambridge State Bank at Cambridge, and for thirteen years has been cashier of the Hazard State Bank.

A Republican, Mr. Ryan has held minor town offices and has served as delegate to state conventions. During the World War he was a private in Company B, 23rd Machine Gun Batallion, 8th Regular Division. He has held local offices in the Red Cross, and has served on the Hazard School Board. Mr. Ryan is general agent of the American State Life Insurance Company of Lincoln, Nebraska. Residence: Hazard.


Mark Joseph Ryan

Mark J. Ryan was born at Coleman, South Dakota, May 7, 1889, the son of John and Agnes B. (Daley) Ryan. His father, who was born at Cincinatti, Ohio. May 25, 1854, and died at Madison, Lake County, South Dakota, July 4, 1929, was a school teacher in his early life and later was a farmer; his paternal great-grandfather came to this country from Ireland in 1830. His mother, whose ancestors came to this country from Ireland in 1840, was born at Madison, Wisconsin, May 24, 1852, and is now living at Madison, South Dakota.

Mr. Ryan attended the rural schools of Moody County, was a student at the State Normal School at Madison, and holds the following degrees: A. B., Creighton University, 1912; A. M. Creighton University, 1914; and LL. B., with cum laude honors, college of law, Creighton University, 1915. He was class valedictorian at the College of Arts and Sciences, Creighton, and held membership in the Theta Chapter of Gamma Eta Gamma.

He was engaged in the practice of law at Pender, Thurston County, Nebraska, from 1916 to 1924. A Democrat, he was United States Commissioner for Nebraska, 1920-24; was county attorney of Thurston County, 1922-25; and was elected judge of the 8th Judicial District 1924, re-elected, 1928. He is a member of the Pender Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, the Nebraska State Bar Association, The Nebraskana Society, and the Red Cross. He is an Elk and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He is affiliated with St. John's Catholic Church and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Judge Ryan enlisted in the air service, November 21, 1917, was discharged June 12, 1918, was inducted into service July 16, 1918, and discharged, March 29, 1919. He was regimental sergeant major at Camp Dodge, Iowa. Until he entered the service he was food administrator at Pender and acted as Four Minute Man. He is a charter member of Post Number 55 of the American Legion. His sports are tennis and golf.

His marriage to Anne Harrower was solemnized at Omaha, Dougles County, Nebraska, February 12, 1920. Mrs. Ryan, who was a stenographer before her marriage, was born at Omaha, October 15, 1894. Her ancestry is Scotch Irish, on the paternal side, and German through the maternal line. They have two children: John, born November 28, 1920; and Thomas Lee, born August 23, 1928. William Hogan Ryan

On February 4, 1863, William H. Ryan was born in Dakota County, January 18, 1880; he was a prominent farmer and held the office of county commissioner at the time of his death. He came to America from Ireland, in 1846, at the age of 22. Margaret Hogan, the mother of William H. Ryan, was born in County Tipperary, in 1834, and died in Dakota County, Nebraska, October 11, 1871 (sic paragraph).

Mr. Ryan was married to Julia Ashford at Homer, on October 5, 1904. His wife is a native Nebraskan, having been born at Homer, on July 29, 1873. There are no children.

Since December, 1903, Mr. Ryan has been cashier of the Security State Bank of Homer. Prior to that time he served as county sheriff of Dakota County two terms covering four years as follows: 1890 to 1893; and from 1896, to 1900, was county judge. He is a member of the Republican party.

Mr. Ryan is a member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church of Homer. He has been prominent in the political, civic and religious affairs of his community for the past 40 years. Residence: Homer.


Charles Silcott Ryckman

Charles Silcott Ryckman, editor, was born at Fort Collins, Colorado, July 11, 1898, son of John Power and Ada (Silcott) Ryckman. John Power Ryckman, was a native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, born December 28, 1858. He is a farmer, and former chief of Police of Fort Collins. Ada Silcott was born in 1870, and died at Fort Collins, in 1900. She was an accomplished pianist.

Mr. Ryckman attended Fort Collins public and high schools, where he was active in football and track. He is an associate member of Sigma Delta Chi, this honor having been bestowed by the Nebraska chapter He began his newspaper career on Fort Collins Courier in 1920, and since May, has been associated with the Fremont Tribune of which he is editor. He is a Republican, and a member of the city council, and has made his home in Nebraska for the past eleven years.

On August 12, 1922, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Redmond at Fremont. Mrs. Ryckman was born at Troy, Ohio, July 24, 1898. From April 16, 1917, to December 6, 1919, Mr. Ryckman served in the United States Navy, and at present holds the rank of captain in the United States Army Reserves. He is a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Reserve Officers Association. He is a Mason and an Elk, and is a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, the Y. M. C. A., and the Nebraskana Society.

He was the winner in 1931 of the Pulitzer award for having written the best editorial appearing in any American newspaper in 1930. It appeared in the Fremont Tribune, November 5, 1930 The Gentleman from Nebraska, dealing with the re-election of George W. Norris to the United States Senate. Residence: Fremont.


George Albert Rydlund

George Albert Rydlund, manager of the Funk Grain & Elevator Company at Funk, Nebraska, is a lifetime resident of Phelps County. He was born at Funk, October 26, 1883, the son of John Gust Rydlund and Matilda (Enquist) Rydlund. His father, who was a farmer, was born in Sweden, April 18, 1842, came to America, in 1856, and died at Funk, Nebraska, November 22, 1898. His mother was born in Sweden, April 9, 1855, and is now living at Boone, Iowa.

Mr. Rydlund attended Lutheran College at Wahoo, 1902-03. He has been a school director for the past eight years at Funk, is affiliated with Fredhem Lutheran Church, and holds membership in the Ancient Order of United Workmen, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Masons. His sport is hunting.

On February 14, 1906, he was married at Ford Dodge, Iowa, to Evelyn Nafe. Mrs. Rydlund was born at Hampton, Iowa, January 18, 1885. Six children were born to them, Violet, born September 6, 1907, who married Rollo Bricker, of Lincoln; Garnet, born March 15, 1909, who married Vincent Hedstrom; Georgie, born September 19, 1910, who died October 2, 1910; Marjorie, born Septemher 11, 1916; Linnea, born November 7, 1919; and George William, born June 30, 1929. Mr. Rydlund is a member of the Democratic party and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. Residence: Funk. (Photograph in Album).
