FROM MEETINGS OF THE BOARD OF
PLATTE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
December 1857 - December 1872
The 1st Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held on the 28th day of December 1857. Present: Messrs. Becher, Spaulding and Sarvis.
Moved and seconded that a chairman be elected to serve for the next nine months. Carried.
On motion, Mr. Sarvis was elected such chairman.
On motion the clerk was authorized to buy a record book as soon as the county funds will admit.
On motion a territorial tax of ten mills on the dollar was levied on all real and personal estate.
On motion a county tax of six mills on the dollar was levied on all real and personal estate, also a poll tax of fifty cents.
On motion a school tax of one and a half mills on the dollar was levied on all real and personal estate.
On motion a road tax of one mill on the dollar was levied on all real and personal estate.
On motion the meeting adjourned until one o'clock P.M.
Afternoon Session
Mr. Sarvis in the chair.
On motion the following resolution by Mr. Spaulding was adopted.
Resolved, that this county be divided into three districts, each district to be represented by one commissioner and that the boundaries of said districts be as follows
1st district. Commencing at the southeast corner of Platte county, thence running north 24 miles, thence west 8 miles, thence south 24 miles thence east to the Place of beginning.
2nd district. Commencing at the southwest corner of district No. 1, thence running north 24 miles, thence west 8 miles, thence south 24 miles, thence east to the place of beginning.
3rd district. All that part of Platte county lying West of district No. 2.
On motion, Thomas Sarvis was appointed to represent district No. 1, George Spaulding district No. 2,
Gustavus Becher district No. 3.
On motion, Thomas Sarvis was allowed the sum of two dollars for notifying George Spaulding of special meeting

First Regular Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held Monday, January 4, 1858.
Present, Messrs. Becher, Spaulding and Sarvis.
Mr. Becher presented memorial from C. B. Stillman, John Siebert, J. P. Becker and 19 others, praying for the location of a road from the north end of Washington Avenue in the town of Columbus to Shell Creek together with the bridging of said stream.
On motion the first Tuesday in March be set apart for the purpose of hearing parties interested in the location of the above road.
Amended by Mr. Sarvis so as to read that the 5th day of January be set apart for the purpose of viewing said road.
Motion as amended agreed to. On motion the meeting adjourned.

Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held Monday, March 1st, 1858.
Present, Messrs. Becher and Sarvis.
Mr. Sarvis in the chair.
On motion C. B. Stillman was ordered to proceed as the law directs to draw lots for 12 grand and 12 petit jurors to be selected from suitable persons from Columbus and Buchanan precincts.
On motion the meeting adjourned until nine o'clock tomorrow morning.

Adjourned meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, Tuesday, March 2, 1858.
Present, Becher and Sarvis. Mr. Sarvis in the chair.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mr. Becher presented a petition from John Reck, John Miller, C. B. Stillman and thirteen other citizens of Columbus, praying for the incorporation of the Town of Columbus. On motion, the following was adopted
An act to incorporate the Town of Columbus.
Sec. 1. Be it ordained by the commissioners of Platte county

that the town site claimed by the Columbus Company, upon which Columbus is located, is hereby declared to be a town under the name and style of Columbus.
Sec. 2. That said town is hereby declared a body corporate and is invested with all the privileges and attributes conferred by an act passed by the Territorial Legislature entitled Incorporations of Towns. The said town of Columbus and their successors shall be known by that name in law and have perpetual succession. Sue and be sued, defend and be defended in all courts of law, and equity, and may grant, hold purchase and receive property, real and personal within said town and lease, sell and dispose of the same for the benefit of the town and may have a common seal, and may alter the same at pleasure.
Sec. 3. The corporate powers of said town of Columbus shall be vested in a board of trustees to consist of five members to be elected by the qualified voters residing within said town.
Sec. 4. John Reck, Vincent Kummer, John C. Wolfel, Peter Meyer and Frank G. Becher are hereby appointed trustees of said town until their successors are elected and qualified.
Sec. 5. An election shall be held on the first Monday in May and annually thereafter for the election of five trustees, who shall hold their offices one year or until their successors are elected and qualified.
Sec. 6. Any male person who is a citizen of the territory may vote at any election in said town, provided he has been a resident of the same three months thereto.
Sec. 7. The board of trustees shall have all the powers conferred by an act for the "Incorporation of towns in Sections 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and all other powers granted in said act.
Sec. 8. Gustavus Becher, Michael Fry and C. B. Stillman are hereby appointed judges of election, and Chas. J. Stetson and John Siebert clerk of said election."
On motion the sheriff of Platte county was ordered to make an assessment of all property real and personal in said county and make a return of the same to the county clerk within thirty days.
On motion the county was divided into two equal road districts, by drawing a line directly through the center of said county from north to south, that on the west to he called road district No. 1, that on the east. road district No. 2, and a road supervisor to be appointed for each district.
On motion, Jacob Guter and Daniel Hashberger were appointed such supervisors, the said supervisors to be held in bonds of fifty dollars each for the faithful performance of their respective duties.
On motion, the county clerk was ordered to furnish the supervisor of district No. 1 with the names of persons from whom labor is due.
On motion, the supervisor was empowered to give notice to all persons from whom road labor is due to work on the road between Columbus and Shell Creek.
On motion it was resolved that all persons through whose lands the Shell Creek road passes be requested to give quit-claim deeds to the county and their successors forever, for all lands over and above sixty feet and one hundred feet to be used for said road.

Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held May 15th, 1858.
Present, Messrs. Becher, Sarvis. Mr. Sarvis in the chair.
Minutes of the last two meetings were read and approved. On motion the following ordinance was adopted.
Sec. 1st. Be it ordained by the commissioners of Platte county. That said county be and is hereby divided into five road districts, the boundaries of said districts to be as hereafter described, and a road supervisor to be appointed for each district.
Sec. 2nd. District No. 1 shall embrace all that part of said county lying within range 2 east and town 17 north.
Supervisor Jacob Guter.
Sec. 3rd. District No. 2 shall embrace all that part of said county lying within Range 2 east and town 17 north.
Supervisor Joseph Skinner.
Section 4th. District No. 3 shall embrace all that part of said county lying within range 3 east and town 17 north.
Supervisor James Jeffries.
Sec. 5th. District No. 4 shall embrace all that part of said county lying within range 4 east and town 17 north. Supervisor Alex. Albertson.
Sec. 6th. District No. 5 shall embrace all that part of said county lying within ranges 1. 2. 3 and 4 east and town 18 north.
Supervisor, Charles Reinke.
All acts or parts of acts conflicting with this act are hereby repealed.
Be it ordained by the commissioners of Platte county that the road supervisors of said county shall hold their offices until the first Monday in April 1859 or until their successors are elected and qualified.
On motion it was ordained by the commissioners of Platte county. That the road viewed and located from the north end of Washington avenue in the town of Columbus to Shell Creek north of said town be and is hereby established a county road.

Mr. Sarvis presented a memorial from John Reck, John Miller, V. Kummer and fifteen others praying for the location of a road from Columbus to Buchanan in Platte county and the bridging of sloughs on the same.
On motion, the commissioners resolved to meet at the store of F. G. Becher in Columbus, June 21st, 1858 at 7 o'clock A.M., preparatory to viewing and locating said road. On motion, the meeting adjourned until 7 1/2 o'clock P.M.

On motion the bills presented were laid on the table until the next meeting. On motion the county clerk was authorized to send to N. W. Mills and Co., of Ft. Des Moines, Iowa for all books and stationery necessary for the use of the county offices of Platte county, N. T. On motion the meeting adjourned.

Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held June 15, 1858.
Present, Messrs. Sarvis and Spaulding. Mr. Sarvis in the chair.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
On motion the bills laid on the table the preceding meeting were taken up and considered. On motion, the bill of Gustavus Becher was allowed with the exception of the bill of March 22d, 1858 making the amount twenty-one dollars, said bill being for services rendered as commissioner of Platte county from December 28th, 1857 to May 15, 1858, inclusive.
On motion the bill of C. B. Stillman was allowed for services rendered as judge of election. On motion, F. G. Becher's bill was allowed for service rendered as clerk of election December 19, 1857. On motion, the bill of G. W. Hewitt was allowed with the exception of the items of May 4th, making the amount fifty-two dollars and fifty cents, said bill being for services rendered as clerk of Platte county, etc., from October 11, 1857 to May 15, 1858, inclusive.
The bill of Chas. Bremer for services as judge of election August 3d, 1857 was not allowed. The bill of John Reck for administering to offices of election August 3, 1857 was not allowed. On motion, the meeting adjourned until 1 o'clock P.M.
Afternoon Session
On motion C. B. Stillman was appointed to fill the vacancy in the office of trustee of the town of Columbus occasioned by the resignation of John Reck.
On motion, the following ordinance was made: Be It Ordained by the commissioners of Platte county
Sec. 1st. That an election precinct be and is hereby established at Grand Island to be known and designated as Grand Island precinct.
Sec. 2d. Said precinct shall include all that territory lying north of Platte ten miles and east of Wood river twenty miles.
Sec. 3d. The following named persons are hereby appointed judges of election in said precinct: Aug. Herman Wassel, Frederick Langman, Mr. Seymour.
Sec. 4th. William S. Potts and William Haga are hereby appointed justices of the peace, and George Schultz constable in said precinct, to hold their offices until the next general election.
Sec. 5th. An election will be held in said precinct at the house of Christian Mink on Monday, August 2d, 1858, the returns of said election duly to be made to the county clerk of Platte county within ten days after said election.
On motion the following ordinance was adopted: Be it ordained by the commissioners of Platte county that an election precinct be and is hereby established in Platte county, N. T., the boundaries to be as follows, to wit: Commencing at a point on the southern boundary of said county 8-miles east of the sixth principal meridian, thence running north 6 miles thence east 8 miles, thence south to the county line thence west along said line to the place of beginning to be known and designated as Centre precinct. On motion Joseph Skinner, Geo. Spaulding and Cyrus Tolman were appointed judges of election in said precinct. On motion Joseph Skinner was appointed justice of the peace and H. M. Kemp, constable in said precinct, to hold their office until the next general election. On motion the election in Centre precinct was ordered to be held at the house of Joseph Skinner. On motion, the following ordinance was adopted: Be it ordained by the commissioners of Platte county that an election precinct be and is hereby established in Platte county, N. T., to embrace all that territory lying within ranges I, 2, 3, and 4 east of the sixth principal meridian and town 18 north, to be known and designated as Shell Creek precinct. On motion, Wm. English, A. B. Northrop and Henry Suskie were appointed judges of election in said precinct. On motion, Wm. English was appointed justice of the peace and A. B. Northrop, constable in said precinct to hold their offices until the next General election. On motion the election in Shall Creek precinct was ordered to be held at the house of Chas. Bremer. On motion, Wm. Davis, Isaac Albertson and James Maxwell were appointed judges of election in Buchanan precinct, said election to be held at the home of Isaac Albertson.
On motion, Chas. A. Speice, George W. Hewitt and C. B. Stillman were appointed judges of election in Columbus precinct, said election to be held at the store of F. G. Becher.
On motion, the chairman of the board of county commissioners was authorized to appoint persons to fill the vacancies occurring in the precinct offices of Platte county and to sign all orders in behalf of the Board. On motion, the county clerk was authorized to proclaim that an election will be held in the several precincts in Platte county and in Grand Island precinct on Monday August 2d, 1858. On motion, A. B. Northrop was appointed road supervisor in District No. in Platte

Third regular Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held on Monday, July 5, 1858.
Present, T. Sarvis, Spaulding and Becher. Mr. Sarvis in the chair.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The resignation of A. B. Pattison was read and accepted and ordered to be filed in the office of the county clerk.
A petition from Anthony Voll, W. W. English, A. B. Northrop and 14 others praying for the location of a road from the eastern boundary of Platte county along the north side of Shell creek to western boundary of said county was read.
On motion, the prayer of said petition was granted and the 9th day of August set apart for hearing those concerned and the location of said road.
On motion, the county clerk was ordered to cause two notices to be posted in the county giving notice that the commissioners will meet at the house of Chas. Bremer on Shell Creek, on the 9th day of August, at 12 M., and at the house of Isaac Albertson at 12 M. on the following day.
Moved and seconded that the words October 1st be inserted after N. T., in the ordinance establishing an election precinct at Shell Creek. Motion lost.
On motion A. B. Pattison was requested to survey the county road from Columbus to Buchanan, as soon as convenient.
There being no further business before the board, the meeting adjourned.

On motion G. Becher was elected chairman of the board. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. On motion, the bill of N. W. Mills was accepted.
On motion the county clerk was authorized to procure 500 assessors blanks and 200 blank county orders for which a county order will be issued for payment. On motion, the bill of C. B. Stillman for services as judge of election, August 2, 1858 was accepted. On motion, the memorial of C. B. Stillman calling for certain fees in criminal cases was laid on the table. On motion, the bill of John Reck for swearing in county offices and judges of election in 1856 was accepted. On motion, the bill of Geo. Spaulding was allowed. On motion, the bill of G. Becher was allowed.
On motion, the bill of Chas. Bremer was allowed. There being no further business before the board, the meeting adjourned.

Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held April II, 1859.
Present, Becher, Spaulding and Davis.
On motion, Mr. Davis was called to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Be it resolved that as there was no commissioners meeting held on the first Monday in April 1859 as prescribed by law, the weather preventing the board from assembling at the regular place of holding court, this shall be the regular meeting of the board of county commissioners for that day.
On motion the foregoing resolution was unanimously adopted.
Mr. Becher presented
a petition from Geo. Spaulding, John Reck and F. G. Becher, praying that license
be granted to them to keep a ferry in the Platte River for the term of five
years, to commence on the 25th day of April 1859, at a point opposite the residence
of Joseph Skinner, or five miles each way from said point. On motion the prayer
of said was granted. Moved and seconded that Geo. Spaulding, John Reck and
F. G. Becher shall pay into the county treasury the sum of one hundred dollars
annually to entitle them to a license to keep and run a ferry across the Platte
river at a point opposite the residence of Joseph Skinner or

five miles each way from said point and that the county clerk be authorized to issue license to the said Geo. Spaulding, John Reek and F. G. Becher on their resenting and filing in duplicate with said clerk the county treasurers receipt for the sum so agreed upon. Carried. Yeas, Becher and Spaulding. Nays, Davis.
On motion, Jacob Guter was appointed road supervisor for district No. 1. On motion Joseph Skinner was appointed road supervisor for district No. 2. On motion Joseph Russell was appointed road supervisor for district No. 3. On motion the following named persons to wit. William Davis, Joseph Skinner and John Reck were appointed members of the County Board of Equalization. On motion, the bill of Geo. spaulding for services as county commissioner, etc, from January 3d to April 11th, 1859, inclusive was allowed. On motion the bill of G. W. Hewitt for services as county clerk etc., from June 15, 1858 to February 21, 1859 inclusive was allowed. On motion the bill of Wm. Davis for service as commissioner, etc., from August 2d, 1858 to April 11th, 1859 inclusive was allowed. On motion, the bill of H. M. Kemp for service as clerk of election in Centre precinct held August 2, 1858 was allowed.
On motion, the prayer of the petition of C. B. Stillman asking that certain fees be allowed in criminal cases was granted. Said petitions, ask that a warrant be issued to C. B. Stillman for service as justice of the peace to the amount of $3.25, also a warrant to Cyrus Tolman for serving papers in criminal cases to the amount of $12.00. Also, a warrant to Wm. Davis for witness fees to the amount of $3.50 and also a warrant to W. H. Lambe for witness fees to the amount of $3.10.

Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Platte County held at Columbus, Nebraska Territory, August 1st, 1859.
Present, Messrs. Spaulding and Davis.
The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. The resignation of C.. B. Stillman a Justice of the Peace was read and accepted. The bills of J,. P. Becker for $8.50, C. A. Speice for $3.50, Joseph Skinner for $1.50 and Byron Skinner for $1.50 were allowed and warrants ordered to be drawn on the treasury for that amount. The bill of V. Kummer was laid on the table.
Vincent Kummer, Michael Weber and C. B. Stillman were appointed judges of election in Columbus precinct. Joseph Skinner, H. M. Kemp and Joseph Russell were appointed judges of election in Centre precinct; the election to be held at the residence of Joseph Skinner.
Michael Erb, Chas. Reinke and John Held were appointed judges of election in Shell Creek precinct; the election to be held at the house of Chas. Reinke.
Isaac Albertson, Wm. Davis, and Nelson Toncray were appointed judges of election in Buchanan precinct, the election to be held at the house of Nelson Toncray.
The county clerk was directed to prepare the yearly statement of the receipts and liabilities of the county and to have the same posted in the manner required by law.
On motion, resolved that the Mayor, Aldermen, Recorder, Marshall, Treasurer and Assessor of the town of Columbus give bond respectively in the sum of five hundred ($500) dollars.
Michael Weber was appointed justice of the peace, and Vincent Kummer constable in and for Columbus precinct.

Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Platte County held at Columbus August 27, 1859.
Present: Messrs. Becher and Davis.
On motion, resolved, that an election shall be held in the different precincts in this county on Tuesday, October 11, 1859, for the purpose of electing one delegate to congress. One territorial auditor, one territorial treasurer, one librarian, one territorial commissioner and one district attorney, one representative, one probate judge, one county clerk, one register of deeds, one sheriff, one county surveyor, one county treasurer, two county commissioners and two justices of the peace, and two constables for each precinct.
On motion, resolved that the county clerk is hereby directed to give notice thereof as directed by law:
On motion, resolved that justices of the peace shall give bond in the sum of five hundred dollars for the faithful performance of their duties.

In pursuance of Sec. 19 of chapter XX of an act entitled an act for preparing revising and consolidating a code of laws for the Territory of Nebraska. The undersigned commissioners of Platte county makes the following report setting forth the receipts and expenditures of said county for the fiscal year, and also the whole indebtedness of said county.

A Special meeting of the Board of Commissioners, Platte County Held in Columbus on November 28th, A.D. 1859.
Present, William Davis and George Spaulding.
On motion, to divide the county into 3 road districts. District No. 1 to commence on the southwest corner of the county running north 24 miles thence 12 miles east thence 24 miles south and thence to the place of beginning.
District No. 2 to commence on the southeast corner of district No. 1 running. 24 miles north thence 6 east thence 24 miles south, thence to the place of beginning. District No. 3 to commence on southeast corner of district No. 2 thence running 24 miles north thence to the eastern boundary line of the county, thence 24 miles south thence to the place of beginning. Carried.
John Reck appointed road supervisor for District No. 1. Joseph Russell appointed road supervisor for District No. 2. Alex Albertson appointed road supervisor for District No. 3. On motion the bill of Joseph Russell for $10 was allowed.

A Regular Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners was held at Columbus, N. T., on Monday, January 2, 1860.
Present: Mr. Becher and Spaulding.
Mr. Becher in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. On motion, the county clerk shall furnish the assessor of this county with the necessary blanks for tax lists. Carried. Mr. Becher presented a petition from the citizens of Shell Creek precinct praying to abolish the said election precinct and attach the same to the Columbus precinct. On motion, it was resolved; That the prayer of said petitioners be granted and all acts heretofore passed conflicting with the same are herewith repealed.
On motion to allow to N. W. Mills & Co., of Des Moines, Iowa the sum of $34 by bill of June 10th 1859. Passed

Mr. Becher presented his resignation as county commissioner. On motion, it was accepted and the county clerk ordered to call a special election to fill the vacancy, as required by law.

A Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Platte County, N. T., was held at Columbus on Saturday, the 28th day of January 1860.
Present, Messrs. W. Davis and G. Spauldin. Mr. Davis in the chair.
The minutes of last meeting were read and approved, except the allowance made to the county treasurer as salary for the preceding year, which should be decided at next meeting of the full board of county commissioners. The bills which were laid on the table last meeting were taken up and on motion the following accounts were allowed: to wit:
Bill of C. B. Stiliman services as Co. Clerk $13.00
Bill of James Galley for services as judge of election $1.50
Bill of Charles Bremer for services as judge of election $1.50, Bill of H. M. Kemp for services as judge of election $1.50, Bill of J. W. Hewitt for services as county clerk except an account made as salary as probate judge for time from August 1st 1858 to June 15th 1859, which was taken out leaving a balance of $4.50 which was allowed. Bill of Gustavus Becher was taken up and allowed except account made April 14/17 for spikes leaving amount of $12. Mr. Jos. Russell presented his bill for services as judge of election and bringing election return the distance of 10 miles to county clerk, amounting to $2.50 allowed. According to an act passed at last session of the legislature which attached Monroe county to Platte and it made it necessary to divide Platte county into 3 new commissioner districts, therefore a motion was made that a division of said county be made in 3 new districts, which was unanimously adopted. All the territory lying between the eastern boundary of Platte county and 12 miles east of the 6th principal meridian shall constitute and be district No. 1. All the territory lying from the sixth

principal meridian and running then 12 miles east shall constitute and be district No. 2. All the territory in Platte county lying west of the sixth principal meridian shall constitute and be district No. 3. Next, Mr. Spaulding made a motion to divide Platte county into Election precincts which passed.
The following division was made. Buchanan precinct commences on the east line of Platte county and runs 71 miles. Polls in said precinct shall be at the house of Mr. Wm. Davis. Centre precinct to commence on the west line of Buchanan precinct and runs g miles west. Polls in said precinct shall be held at the house of Jos. Skinner. Columbus precinct commences 6 miles east of the sixth principal meridian and runs 6 miles west of said meridian line. The polls to be held at the Columbus hotel in said precinct. Monroe precinct combines all balance of county which lies west of the aforesaid Columbus precinct. The polls shall be held in said precinct at the house of Mr. Ch. Whaley. In the first 2 named precincts the former judges of election should hold their office until their term expires. In Monroe precinct, the board nominated Ch. Whaley, Jos. Gerrard, and Jos. Seizer as judges of election.
Mr. Spaulding made a motion that at the election which is to be held on the first Monday in March the voters of Monroe precinct shall elect 2 justices of the peace, 2 constables for said precinct. Carried. Also, that at above named election the electors of Columbus precinct shall elect 1 justice of the peace and 2 constables which also passed. The board nominated James Galley, John Reek and V. Kummer, judges of election in Columbus precinct for the balance of the term. Motion made to adjourn agreed.

A Regular Meeting of the Board of commissioners of Platte County N. T., was held at Columbus on Monday, April the second, A.D. 1860.
Present, Mr. George Spaulding and G. W. Stevens.
The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved leaving still for the full board of county commissioners to decide on the allowance made to V. Kummer, county treasurer, at their meeting held on Monday, January 2nd A.D. 1860. On motion, Mr. Stevens to take the chair and act as such for the next 3 months Passed. A petition was presented from Henry Hudson, Dan Welsh and others asking that a new precinct be established, and known as Genoa precinct. On motion, the prayer of said petitioners was granted, agreed to. Motion made, to draw the boundaries of the aforesaid precinct at the next regular meeting of the board, which passed. A petition signed by a number of citizens asking for a road in township 18 N, Range 2 E through Sec. 20 was presented which was also grant to said petitioners. Also, a petition for a county road to be established and to run from Columbus through the town of Monroe to the Ferry at Genoa, Which was on motion of Mr. Spaulding, granted to the signers and citizens of said portion of county. Another petition signed by Joseph Skinner and others praying for a change and opening of a road was presented which was laid over until next meeting. The papers of Monroe county now, a portion or part of Platte county were put before the board for investigation. On that subject Com. Spaulding made motion, that Francis G. Becher and G. W. Stevens be appointed as a committee to investigate the accounts and papers and report to the Board at their next regular meeting was unanimously adopted.
Monroe Precinct being without a road supervisor, Mr. Spaulding made a move to appoint Joseph Selzer as such and the county clerk ordered to issue certificate accordingly. Agreed to. Bonds of Dan Welsh constable, bonds of James Galley, justice of the peace, bonds of Francis G. Becher, constable, bonds of Joseph Gerrard, justice of the peace were presented and approved.

Bills of Francis G. Becher and James Galley were presented which were laid over until next meeting. Leander Gerrard, Esq., presented a petition for a ferry charter which reads as follows:
To the County Commissioners of Platte County, N. T.
The undersigned, your petitioners, would respectfully represent to your honorable body, that they have given due notice of. their intention to apply to you at this meeting for a ferry license, that it is important to the interest of the residents of Platte Co. generally, that such license should be granted. Therefore, they would ask that the following order be made by you to wit: Ordered by the county commissioners of Platte County, N. T., that Leander Gerrard and Co. be and are hereby authorized to establish a. ferry at such point on the Loup fork of the Platte river in said county, as there shall not be already a legally established ferry license. That they, their heirs or assigns shall have the sole right to keep the same for the term of ten years. Provided they shall pay into the county treasury the sum of twenty five dollars annually and shall comply with the requirements of the law in such cases made and provided. That the rates of Toll shall be as follows:
