Cross
Country, 1914
WING
to a lack of support on the part of the student body, and
of the faculty authorities as well, the cross-country
sport has waned almost to the point of desuetude. Last
fall an attempt to arouse interest in the sport, by the
introduction of the old English game of Hare and Hounds,
met with a very limited success.
In the Missouri Valley
Meet at Ames, Iowa, in November, our team, composed of
Captain Goetze, Kratz, Kubik, Spohn, Ricker and Raecke,
took fourth place, being beaten by Ames, Kansas and
Missouri in the order named.
Until cross-country is
put on a sound basis by ranking it as a major sport,
employing a regular coach, and arranging for more meets
it will probably continue to be the weak sister of our
university athletics.
