Volunteer Band
The University
Student Volunteer Band is a very small unit of a great
world movement which had its origin in 1886 at a student
conference at Northfield, Mass. An organization now
exists in nearly all of the leading colleges of North
America. The purpose of this movement is two-fold: to
furnish the mission boards of the United States and
Canada with a supply of capable volunteers for foreign
work, and to lead the students whom God does not call to
become missionaries to make their lives count most in
developing a strong home base to hack up the foreign
work.
During the lifetime of the
movement nearly 6,000 have sailed and are now doing
active service as foreign workers.

Several recent graduate
members of the band are completing their preparation in
graduate training schools. There are now thirty-five
graduates of the University of Nebraska in missionary
work in foreign lands.
