Through his interest in general school affairs, Jake was influenced to take an active part in the great conflicts of the period, such as the "Rent-a-Ford War."

   Then came an event which was of especial interest to Jake, as it recalled the days on the farm, and he found that he still felt at home in agricultural surroundings. As the days sped by our hero learned that education included play as well as work and he found more time to visit with his friends and attend social functions.
