BOYER AND DUNKER
TRAIN FOR ATHLETICS
The two Phi
Delta Theta upholders of the athletic
standards at that rooming house, one and only
Jack Boyer, and the all-exceptional Charles
Dunker, train consistently for the gridiron.
Boyer at the race track in *the vicinity of
Pawnee City (where's the city) and the Dunker
at the Rockville asylum, may be found working
their muscular talents into shape for coming
tests on the battle field.
Now we
might mention that Dunker came into the ranks
of the Phi Delt boarding table through his
unquieted efforts at the known Ft. Snelling
in the year 1924. Dunker, who could scarcely
get into his large size uniform because of
his manly physique, invited the formerly well
liked Junge (Youngee), Brinkerhoff (long
deceased), and Jack Boyer (his co-athlete at
the Coloseum) to partake of the Minneapolis
Minnehaha Pale. The Minnie stands for
Minnesota nector and the haha for the fooling
of the Phi Delta boys. It was not as pale as
supposed but caused the eye-sight to fade in
favor of the camp hospital following
Independence Day celebrations on the part of
this self-rusher.
Oh, yes.
Stryker fell hard, too, for he was present at
the encampment. As the summer drew to a close
the Dunker lad had set himself up for a Phi
Delt pledge button which he received the
following fall when, you remember, the
Youngee gab failed to attract the
rushees.
Well, Boyer
and Dunker, in the pink of condition, started
out for the pigskin game. When Dunker first
saw the ball it appeared as an egg for he was
so used to playing about with the eggs.
Later, after the squad picture had appeared
in the newspaper, Dunker persuaded Boyer to
fade out of the spotlight towards Dreamland
and the following year towards dear old
Auditorium.
Now Boyer,
you may, if you get advice from Stryker, some
day amount to something, and Dunker, if you
could only live at Snelling and burn the oils
of early morning as in former times, you
might get away on our campus--away off, we
mean. Don't cock your head too soon, old boy.
You ought to letter about the time Shostak
does anyway.
