Here he remained until coming to Nebraska, arriving in Tekamah, March 22nd, 1878. He entered the school room as teacher upon coming to this county, and taught for several years in different parts of the county. He then moved to this city and served the county from 1888 to 1895 as Clerk of the District Court and from 1896 to 1899 inclusive as County Judge, filling both positions with credit to himself and satisfaction to his constituency. He is now engaged in the Land Title, Abstract and Insurance business.
Mr. Ward was united in marriage January 1st, 1880, to Miss Alice V. Gates.
HENRY SCHERER was horn January 3d, 1850, in Johannesberg, Germany. He left his native country and came to America at the age of seventeen years residing in New York until he came to Tekamah, in the fall of 1882. From that time he resided here continuously until his death from typhoid fever, August 28th, 1894. While residing here he followed his trade of butcher, conducting a fine market and making a success of the business. He was enterprising and took a prominent part in all public affairs serving four terms as City Councilman and one term as Mayor of the city. He was a member of the committee of the City Council which had under its supervision the construction of the city water works system and also in giving to Tekamah her first street lights.
Mr. Scherer was united in marriage August 28th, 1871, to Miss Rosa Windsheimer, of New York City.
JAMES C. SHAW was horn December 27th, 1850, in Wayne county, Ohio. During his younger days he also resided in Loraine county and Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Shaw came west and located in Omaha, August 12th, 1872, and came to Burt county, November 10th, 1878, locating in Bell Creek township.
