county November 6th, 1863. He first settled in Arizona township where he resided for seventeen years raising and feeding cattle and conducting an extensive farm. He then removed to the City of Tekamah where he has resided for twenty-four years. Ever since taking up his residence here Mr. Latta has been one of the most public spirited men in the community and contributed, wherever possible, to the upbuilding of the city and county. He became interested in banking in the year 1877 and since that time has been, one of the leading bankers of this section of the state and at the present time the president and principal stockholder in the First National Bank of this city.
   Mr. Latta has served the city as its Mayor, and in 1887 was sent to represent the county in the Nebraska State Legislature.
   On December 29th, 1870, Mr. Latta was united in marriage to Libbie.Jonas, also a native of Jackson county. Iowa.

   WILLIAM THOMAS BERRY was born in Salina, Iowa, July 23d, 1847. He came to Burt county, March 30th, 1867, settling in Arizona township where he resided continuously until October 8th, 1894, when he removed to Texas. He returned to Burt county again in 1900 and passed from this life in Tekamah December 24th, 1900. During his first years residence in this county he taught in the public schools later taking up farming. He took a prominent part in the public affairs of his community and served the county as County Superintendent for two years and also as County Commissioner for two years.
   Mr. Berry was united in marriage March 21st, 1878, to Alice Spielman.

   WILLIAM NELSON HAYWOOD was born February 23d, 1836, at Loudenville, Ohio. During his early years he accompanied his parents to Fairfield, Iowa. where he resided until he came to Burt county, Nebraska, August 1st, 1857. He located in Arizona town

ship among the first hardy pioneers to locate there and located a claim of eighty acres of which he retained possession until within eighteen months of his death. He devoted his attention almost entirely to stock raising and farming although he became largely interested in Tekamah city property during the latter years of his life when he made his residence here, passing from this life June 4th, 1902.
   Mr. Haywood was united in marriage January 15th, 1862, to Elizabeth A. Marr at Decora, Iowa.

   WILLIAM ROSS MOREHOUSE was born in Tekamah, February 25th. 1877, and resided here continuously until his removal to Custer county in the spring of 1904 where he is now located on a ranch. While in Tekamah he devoted his attention to mercantile lines, running one of the nicest groceries in the city. He was united in marriage June 10th, 1903, to Miss Lucy Hoffman, of this city.

   CHARLES E. HOPEWELL was born June 29th, 1872 in Worth county, Missouri. He accompanied his parents upon their removal to Burt county, Nebraska, in March, 1880. For several years he was book-keeper in the Burt County State Bank and also held the position of City Treasurer. Leaving this position for life on his farm located near this city. Mr. Hopewell was united in marriage June 11th, 1902, to Miss Minnie Fischer of this city.

   MYRON H. MOREHOUSE was born June 4th, 1838, in Orleans county, New York. He became a resident of Tekamah in May, 1871, and has always been one of its leading citizens. He is the leading contractor of the county on bridge building and public works of various kinds.
   Mr. Morehouse was united in marriage September 14th, 1864, to Julia St. John, at Alden, New York,
