state for the great west and landed in Burt county, Nebraska, in the month of April. He settled in Arizona township where all the early settlers seemed to gather, and here he was united in marriage to Miss Martha J. Chilcott, January 16th, 1867.
   Mr. McMullin took as a homestead, the farm which is now known as the home place of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Story. He remained in that township until 1881 when he removed to this city and later removed to his home just west of the city limits.
   Mr. and Mrs. McMullin were united in marriage by Judge Mason who was one of the earliest settlers and a historic character in this county.

   MERVIN E. MOREHOUSE was born in West Shelby, New York, May 7th, 1840. From there he moved to Wisconsin where he resided from 1866 to 1871 when he removed to Burt county reaching Tekamah in March, 1871. He followed his trade of carpenter for many years and later engaged in farming and secured large land interests in the neighborhood of this city. Mr. Morehouse, with G. P. Thomas staked off the present school grounds and it was he that helped move the county safes and offices to the north side of the creek during the court house troubles.
   Mr. Morehouse was united in marriage October 27th, 1864, to Miss Mary J. Gary.

   FREDRICK WIXER was born August 26th, 1867, in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of three years his parents removed to Nebraska and located in this county. Mr. Wixer resided on a farm near this city for a number of years and moved to Tekamah in 1902 where he has since resided, having charge, as engineer, of the railroad pumping stations in Tekamah and at DeSoto.
   Mr. Wixer was united in marriage March 29th, 1893, to Miss Augusta Fischer.

   JAMES McDANIEL was born at Mt. Vernon, Ohio, July 8th, 1834. Early in life he moved westward

stopping in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. From the latter place he came to Nebraska and settled in Arizona township, this county, in June, 1867. He remained there for three years and in 1870 moved to the farm in Summit township which was his home until 1900 when he removed to this city. During the first years of his life here he says he could hardly endure the dust storms which then prevailed so frequently.
   At the breaking out of the rebellion Mr. McDaniel enlisted August 11th, 1862, al Davenport, Iowa, in Company C, 20th Iowa Infantry. He served three years.
   Mr. McDaniel was united in marriage to Matilda Davis, March 10th, 1871.

   ROBERT A. SMITH was born near Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, May 24th, 1859. He removed to the United States and located at Union City, Pennsylvania, in 1872 and the following year, in the month of July, located in Burt county. Nebraska. He first resided in the Alder Grove settlement and in 1879 became a resident of this city and embarked in the mercantile business which he has followed continuously, and in which he is now engaged. Mr. Smith served for two years as member of the Board of County Supervisors. one year of which time he was chairman of the board. He was elected in November, 1904, as member of the Nebraska legislature from Burt county, by an exceptionally large vote.
   September 11th, 1889, Mr. Smith was united in marriage to Miss Nellie T. Beck in this city.

   JOHN HENRY STORK was born July 8th, 1835, in West Phalia, Prussia, and came to America in June, 1854, settling at Quincy, Illinois. In the early spring of 1856 he came with an ox team to Fontenelle. Nebraska. In 1864 he removed to Burt county and purchased the farm in Arizona which was known as his home until 1901 when he and his wife removed to this city.
